    Chapter Index

Mumbai, also known as the New York or Shanghai of India, is the second-most densely populated area in India. It is also the most important trade center and port city in India.

Mumbai provides 10% of India’s jobs, contributes 40% of the country’s income tax, 60% of customs duties, and 20% of franchise taxes.

Mumbai is also a financial center with a large number of Indian financial institutions headquartered in South Mumbai. Many foreign banks and financial institutions also have branches in Mumbai.

Indians always like to say, “Mumbai will make the world forget Shanghai!”

At half past ten in the morning on July 23, 2022, although it was Saturday, many businesses were still open as usual. As with all big cities, traffic congestion is the norm.

Katrina, an employee of a foreign investment bank, was driving her beloved Tesla Model G back to the office after a meeting with a client.

As she rounded a corner and just caught sight of the Mumbai Stock Exchange building on her left, she noticed the electronic screen on top of the building flickering a few times and then going out.

Then she noticed the car in front of her suddenly braking hard. She frantically stamped on the brakes, but her car had already crashed into the car in front.

What happened next left her flabbergasted. Her car suddenly emitted several streaks of white smoke, the cool display screen of her beloved car went completely black, and even the windows wouldn’t roll down.

Katrina looked up and saw that the traffic light at the next intersection had gone out, but all the cars on the street had stopped. She was so scared that she pushed open the car door and, like many other car owners, stared around in panic. Some people were still trying futilely to start their cars, but the cars didn’t respond.

She saw many people looking up at the sky to the south, so she turned and saw a flicker of bright light in the southern sky.

What Katrina didn’t know was that at this moment, most of the power grid in India had been cut off and a large number of electrical appliances, cars, and anything with electronic components in them had all paralyzed.

While India was in chaos, the Emperor of Russia was having breakfast.

Air Force Commander Chenofsky, who had rushed over, reported, “Mr. President, the U.S. military has launched a D-5 missile from a strategic nuclear submarine in the Bay of Bengal in the Indian Ocean. The target was the Dream Industrial Park in the Tanga Federation, but it was successfully intercepted in space.

All eight warheads carried by the D-5 were detonated, causing a strong electromagnetic pulse attack in most of India.

The emperor put down his knife and fork, wiped his mouth with a napkin, and asked, “Can you be sure what weapon intercepted it?”

Chenofsky said, “One of our high-orbital satellites with a Space Telescope on board sent back a short clip before it was lost. It should have been attacked by the electromagnetic pulse from the nuclear explosion.”

They watched the footage of an eye-piercing light, followed by the consecutive detonation of nuclear bombs.

The Emperor, after a moment of stunned silence, said slowly, “A new era has begun.”

Meanwhile, the German Chancellery was brightly lit in the pre-dawn darkness.

Chancellor Karen and her staff had been studying the video released by Dream Technology continuously since they had been urgently woken up at four in the morning.

Karen knew that more and more German citizens would see this video once daybreak came, and a storm would be inevitable.

She had to figure out a countermeasure before then on how to balance her relationship with the United States, arrest the terrorists responsible for the Berlin terrorist attack, and resolve the dispute with Dream Technology.

Just as she was thinking, her secretary came up to her and whispered, “The President of Gaul is on the line…”

Karen left the meeting room and returned to her office to take the hotline.

“The U.S. military launched a D-5 missile from a submarine in the Bay of Bengal in the Indian Ocean, but it was intercepted in space,” reports the President of Gaul.

Taken aback, Karen asked, “Was it intercepted by Dream Technology?”

    “It should be.”

Karen sighed deeply, “I made a wrong decision before and need to correct it immediately.”

After quite a while, the Gaul President finally supported, “We Europeans should handle Europe’s own affairs.”

Karen returned to her office and took the hotline.
