Chapter 240: Radack’s Decision
by xennovelJust before the official announcement from Dream Technology’s website, Curtis had also arrived at the Presidential Mansion.
However, President Radack did not receive him immediately; instead, he had him wait in the side hall.
At this time, Curtis received a message from Vandiatte; USS Marilan had lost contact, notifying that aliens had launched an attack on “The Farm” similar to the US Military’s “God’s Rod,” a space-based weapon strike.
The news had Curtis utterly restless; it was now clear that his suspicions were confirmed. Why else would Dream Technology target “The Farm”?
Especially since Dream Technology’s space-based weapons were extremely powerful—perhaps they were from alien ships in space.
He must discuss a plan with the Acting President as soon as possible; otherwise, if they continued to fight Dream Technology, the United States might not only face utter defeat but also significant losses.
“Hilary, could you let the President know I have urgent information to report?” Curtis pulled open the door of the side hall and saw Hilary, who had just been promoted to security advisor, approaching. Knowing her as Radack’s confidante, he asked her immediately.
Hilary smiled faintly and said, “I was actually coming to inform you to see the President.”
Curtis breathed a sigh of relief and followed Hilary to the President’s office.
However, the room was not occupied by Radack alone; also present was Caesar, the Director of GIA.
Curtis nodded slightly to Caesar as a greeting and then turned to Radack and said, “Mr. President, I am here to report the latest battle situation to you.”
He then reported the situation about USS Marilan launching a nuclear missile that was intercepted in space and the nuclear bomb inside “The Farm” base that was detonated, among other things.
A look of shock crossed Radack’s face as he said, “How could Dream Technology be so powerful? To posses space-based weapons that not only intercepted our ICBM but also launched a space-based strike against us.”
Suddenly, Caesar chimed in, “They also took out all of GIA’s agents in the Central-South African Unified Market countries.”
Curtis looked at Caesar in surprise; the latter shrugged and spread his hands, “General Curtis, the news I bring is also not good. Dream Technology is horrifying. I can’t imagine how GIA’s agents could all have been discovered by them.”
After thinking it over, Curtis finally said, “Gentlemen, I suspect Dream Technology is fostered by aliens.”
“Aliens?” Radack exclaimed, “General Curtis, how could you come up with such a startling idea?”
However, Caesar fell into deep thought.
Curtis calmly continued, “Mr. President, I’m not being alarmist. Almost no one on Earth can guarantee interception of ICBMs.”
Radack asked in confusion, “Are we also not capable?”
“We can achieve it, but it’s not 100% certain.”
Radack further inquired, “How can you be sure Dream Technology can do it 100%?”
Curtis explained, “You see, Dream Technology intercepted the ICBM and then almost immediately took care of USS Marilan. My guess is they already knew the position of USS Marilan and were just waiting for it to launch the missile, then they began their counterstrike. This indicates they were confident in intercepting.”
Radack felt anxious as he hadn’t expected the godly mission entrusted to him to be connected with aliens.
In fact, he had just met Caesar and been exposed for his relationship with the godly leader, leading the two of them to form a new alliance.
Caesar revealed this relationship because he wanted Radack to quickly find the military to be the scapegoat.
Before launching the nuclear strike, Dream Technology posted a video. It was footage from the Berlin terrorist attack showing the terrorists entering a US military base in Germanic Europe.
As the Director of GIA, Caesar immediately confirmed the video was genuine, then used GIA’s resources in Germanic Europe to identify the attackers in the video.
These people were members of the Black Helmet organization and had close ties with the US military, having assisted the US military in the Middle East and essentially acting as their white gloves.
Radack was aware of the damage the video could cause, although he knew it might have been deliberately arranged by the godly leader.
If handled poorly, he might become the quickest Acting President in history to step down, especially since he was the biggest beneficiary and had served in the military for a long time.
However, after reaching an agreement with Caesar, the two decided to have the military bear the responsibility.
Suddenly, Caesar asked, “General Curtis, do you know Mr. Messi from the Black Helmets?”
Curtis’s heart jumped, but he maintained a composed expression and replied, “I’ve heard of this person; Director Caesar, why the sudden question?”
“Don’t you see the statement and video released by Dream Technology?”
“What statement?”
Up till now, Curtis had been preoccupied with deploying the nuclear strike and then busily contacting the godly leader after the failure. With constant developments, he had no time to pay attention to Dream Technology’s statement.
After all, he was entirely focused on fulfilling the godly leader’s assignment to launch a nuclear strike against Dream Technology.
Caesar explained the situation with the video, “General Curtis, shouldn’t you explain this?”
Curtis scoffed, “Director Caesar, what do you mean? Are you suggesting that I planned the Berlin terrorist attack?”
“At the very least, the military can no longer avoid suspicion. I believe by tomorrow both chambers will convene a hearing. You might want to explain.”
Just as the two were about to argue, Radack was about to intercede when there was a knock on the door, and Hilary walked in.
She quickly approached Radack, placing a laptop she was carrying in front of him and said, “Mr. President, this is the latest statement from Dream Technology. There are links to several videos here.”
The web page on the laptop screen had already been translated. After quickly browsing it, Radack was immediately shocked and, with a shaking right hand, clicked on the video links.
The first video was of himself contacting the godly leader via computer, which immediately caused his breathing to become rapid.
Impatiently clicking on the second video, it was Caesar’s. The third turned out to be Curtis’s, and at that moment, everything became clear. No wonder Curtis was so taken with the idea of striking against Dream Technology—it was all part of the godly leader’s scheme.
He looked up at Hilary and asked, “Has this been broadcast to the whole world?”
Hilary nodded, “Yes, it has.”
Radack, looking at Hilary for a long moment, said, “Could you check my study for any hidden surveillance equipment?”
“I’ll notify the experts right away.”
“Thank you, Hilary,” said Radack somewhat dejectedly, waving his hand in dismissal.
Hilary turned and left.
Curtis and Caesar exchanged glances, unclear about what had just happened with Dream Technology’s latest statement, which had turned Radack ashen.
“Mr. President…” Director Caesar softly began.
Radack turned the computer screen towards the two men and said, “Have a look for yourselves. The world knows now that we were under the control of the godly leader.”
Curtis and Caesar quickly stepped forward to check, and soon both men were staring at Radack in shock.
“Mr. President, how did Dream Technology get these videos?” Curtis asked.
Caesar had already started to analyze: “The President’s video seems to be here in this study, mine was in my bedroom. General Curtis, where was your video taken?”
“In the resting room inside my office.”
Caesar stroked his chin and said, “No doubt, all three places are extremely private and should not have had any surveillance devices as such.”
Curtis’s complexion changed, “Dream Technology is too terrifying. Only alien technology could accomplish this. We must cease the war with them.”
Caesar suddenly asked, “General Curtis, now can you tell us who the godly leader is?”
Curtis frowned, “Why do you ask? Don’t you know?”
“I don’t know. I haven’t been GIA Director long enough to investigate how the godly leader manages certain things.”
Radack said, “Gentlemen, we must now be completely honest. Otherwise, by dawn, we will all be forced to step down, or even…”
Caesar interrupted, “Wait a minute. We can’t discuss this here. We need a secure location.”
“How about the command center underneath the Presidential Mansion?” asked Radack.
Caesar shook his head, “No, I suspect Dream Technology has already monitored all these key locations. Let’s leave this place. Follow me; I have a place in mind.”
The three quickly left the Presidential Mansion, with Caesar even arranging for multiple presidential cars to set off, then split up halfway.
More than an hour later, by a lake on the outskirts of Washington, the three boarded a small wooden boat, and Caesar and Curtis rowed the boat to the middle of the lake.
Caesar produced a device and placed it in the boat cabin; once the indicator light turned green, he spoke, “Alright, we should not be monitored here.”
Curtis asked gravely, “My guess is, the godly leader is artificial intelligence, perhaps the main computer intelligence program of an alien spaceship at ‘The Farm.’ Dream Technology, on the other hand, found it and wanted to destroy it. Thus it was eager to eliminate Dream Technology.”
Curtis laid out his bold theory once again.
Radack immediately agreed, “Your suspicion is probably right because the godly leader repeatedly emphasized to me the need to destroy Dream Technology’s industrial park in the Tanga Federation. Even accelerated the nuclear strike to the first round. Clearly, it had discovered the other party and wanted to quickly eliminate them.”
Caesar mentioned, “I’ve noticed that Dream Technology did not say we were controlled by an artificial intelligence but claimed we were controlled by cult members. This means Dream Technology wants to hide the truth about artificial intelligence. Perhaps we could use this to reach a ceasefire agreement with them.”
Radack shook his head, “No, we cannot cease fire! We must continue the fight against Dream Technology!”
“You’re mad!” Caesar and Curtis shouted in unison.
