Chapter Index

Damn it! The signal must have been jammed!

Watanabe Minghui thought for a moment. Sooner or later, she would be discovered. With Dream Technology’s current strict social controls, it was nearly impossible for anyone to hide after committing a crime.

After all, everyone has an identity chip—those without one would be immediately nabbed by the robot police.

Besides, everyone was living on a spaceship that was still hurtling through the universe. Where could you possibly run to?

After weighing her options, Watanabe Minghui immediately pulled a backpack from a storage locker, strapped it on, and secured a soft sword at her waist.

It seemed her only option now was to take the final step—take the entire population of this spaceship hostage.

With that thought, she prepared to leave her quarters.

Suddenly, she stopped in her tracks.

Spinning around, she hurried over to the signal emitter, a cold smirk playing on her face.

She realized she’d made a critical error in her haste. All of her bio-control chips had been used up. Du Qiu and his team might be able to jam an entire battleship, but jamming every single person? That would be nearly impossible.

Even if they could, they’d have to locate all 50,000 people.

Thinking this over, Watanabe Minghui immediately took out her communicator and dialed the number for the hottest online news outlet—Cuiliu Broadcasting.

While waiting, she turned on her home info display and tuned the channel to Cuiliu Broadcasting.

“Hello, this is Cuiliu Broadcasting. Do you have some news to break?”

Watanabe Minghui replied coolly, “Are you live right now?”

Although she could see the broadcaster Zhang Mingliu’s query on her communicator just as clearly, she chose to emphasize it.

She wanted the viewers to believe that the news about to unfold wasn’t a scripted drama, but real live events.

Immediately, Zhang Mingliu responded, “Hello, you’re on the Cuiliu Broadcasting hotline. I guarantee every call goes live—right now, thousands of eyes are listening to you.”

Watanabe Minghui let out a cold laugh, saying, “I’m calling on Dream Technology’s boss, Du Qiu, for help. I need him to dispatch a flagship so I can get out of here.

If he refuses, or worse, tries to arrest me, fifty thousand people will go down with me!”

Hearing this, Zhang Mingliu’s first thought was that the caller must be insane. How could Du Qiu possibly give up a flagship under such threats?

And on what authority could she decide the fate of fifty thousand people?

“Sir, are your words genuine or are you just trying to entertain the audience?”

Watanabe Minghui replied, “Broadcast host, if I’m not mistaken, you should be in Spaceship City No.106. You can head straight to its plaza where there’s a flower shop. Interview the owner there.”

Zhang Mingliu furrowed her brow and asked, “What’s the purpose of that?”

“I want you and the viewers to see for yourselves whether I’m telling the truth or fooling you. And if you refuse, then you can simply call this number: XXXXX…

Zhang Mingliu’s online news channel was already number one, complete with a full production team.

So she signaled to her crew to dial the number on the communicator to see what would happen, and then decide whether to go live with it.

At that moment, she began to regret connecting this call.

After all, Cuiliu Broadcasting had never cut off a hotline call; they always delivered every detail to the audience.

It was precisely for this reason that Cuiliu Broadcasting had climbed to the top of online news over the past year.

    Because it was real.

Meanwhile, a backstage crew member signaled that the ratings were on the rise.

This indicated that the live news threatening Dream Technology’s manager, Du Qiu, had already grabbed public attention.

At that moment, another crew member held up a prompt board that read: “The number belongs to the flower shop owner near the plaza—though she was suddenly taken away by the robot police!”

Zhang Mingliu was taken aback. What was happening? Could it be that the flower shop owner was an accomplice of the woman on the phone?

    Was Dream Technology already moving?

While she hesitated, the caller’s voice came through again on the hotline.

“Miss Host, have you gotten a hint yet? Let me tell you—the flower shop owner is already dead. Wanna know who’s next?”

Zhang Mingliu’s expression changed to shock as she asked, “You’re saying the flower shop owner is dead? And you can predict who dies next?”

“Yes. The next victim is the caretaker of Building 306 at Spaceship City No.103, a man named Zhang Yihai. Notify the local authorities immediately—I guarantee he’s just died.”

Zhang Mingliu replied, “Sir, if this death was indeed caused by you, I urge you to calm down. We can still talk this through.”

Watanabe Minghui responded, “So you believe I’m not lying? Then hurry and alert Big Boss Du Qiu—I’m giving you five minutes. After five minutes, this deadly game continues!”

Before Zhang Mingliu could signal, she noticed the words on the prompt board.

“Host, Dream Technology has officially ordered us to keep the woman on the hotline detained. Just hold on for five minutes and things will be over.”

Zhang Mingliu immediately said, “Alright, I’ll stand by with the viewers. I’ve already alerted our team to contact Dream Technology’s headquarters.”

A smile tugged at the corner of Watanabe Minghui’s lips.

Good. Under the pressure of public opinion, there’s no way Du Qiu would refuse a flagship. As soon as I secure it, I can make my escape.

Even if I can’t exact revenge now, as long as I live—like the saying goes, ‘as long as the green mountains remain, firewood can be found.’ The universe is vast, and I refuse to be stifled.

Once I rise to power, I’ll come back for Du Qiu’s retribution.

As Watanabe Minghui pondered, a chill ran down her spine. Without hesitation, she made a swift move—her soft sword striking out like a venomous snake at the suspicious presence.

    A flash of light appeared.

With a loud clank, Watanabe Minghui felt her soft sword snap in half under the light.

“Pathetic. You didn’t even manage to slice off my head, so let’s call it even.”

A playful voice rang out, and before her appeared a stunning beauty with bright eyes and pearly teeth, wielding a laser sword with extendable light—just like a Jedi from a space saga.

Watanabe Minghui gasped, “You’re Leng Yanran!”

“Oh, so you remember me? Too bad, no rewards for you!”

Leng Yanran flicked her laser sword and lunged at Watanabe Minghui.

Startled, Watanabe Minghui instinctively leaped back. But come on—this is a laser sword. What could possibly block it?

Yet as she jumped back, she suddenly felt her limbs being grabbed by something unseen.

Glancing over her shoulder, she saw two tall men emerging from the air, between whom a metal cross was suspended.

In that instant, Watanabe Minghui’s hands were locked onto a crossbeam while her feet were pinned to a metal pillar.

Her face paling, she shouted, “Let me go or I’ll take you down with me!”

Leng Yanran stepped forward with a smile and said, “Hearing you threaten like that makes me so scared. Since I frightened you so much, here’s a little injection for you.”

As she spoke, a syringe appeared in her hand and pierced the arm that bound Watanabe Minghui.

“Leng Yanran, even as a ghost, I won’t forgive you!”

After her roar, Watanabe Minghui’s eyelids began to droop uncontrollably.

Before losing consciousness, she heard Leng Yanran say, “Take her to Kawanohoroharu. She’ll make an excellent test subject.”

At that moment, on the info display, Zhang Mingliu was broadcasting at the top of her voice.

“That hotline call was from a mentally unstable person. The authorities have already handled it. Cuiliu Broadcasting reminds viewers that even in this interstellar age, mental illness still plagues humanity…”
