Chapter Index

“Du Qiu, my sister-in-law was falsely accused and publicly humiliated and beaten the night before last, why didn’t you explain the situation to me?”

Not long after ending the call with Qin Yun, Zhang Mingliu’s call came through.

“Eh, I thought your sister-in-law would have definitely told you about it.”

“Du Qiu, you were there that night, you should know which sub-branch those people are now being held at, right?”

“What do you want to do?”

Du Qiu, thinking of Zhang Mingliu’s temper, worried that if he told her where the people were detained, she would surely seek revenge. After all, the police station is not a place to cause trouble at will.

“What can I do? I must give those people a good exposure, shame them thoroughly!”

Zhang Mingliu said loudly over the phone, “It’s infuriating, you know? The video of my sister-in-law being humiliated is now going viral online.

What’s key is that it even contains her name and workplace; my sister-in-law’s reputation has been ruined.”

Du Qiu had just thought about the impact of the incident on Qin Yun when he heard it from her, which was why he had offered words of comfort.

At this moment, Du Qiu naturally understood Zhang Mingliu’s indignation and said, “I’ll get in touch with a friend at the police station later to see if they can issue a police bulletin online to clarify the facts.

Besides, I’ll ask him to send someone to the shipyard to explain the truth to the factory leaders and clear Sister Qin’s name.”

“Oh right, my sister-in-law must be the subject of gossip among her colleagues in the factory now, so hurry up and make the arrangements.”

Suddenly, Zhang Mingliu grew anxious. Her sister-in-law wasn’t strong in character; what if she had thoughts of despair, what then?

Just as Du Qiu was about to hang up, he heard Zhang Mingliu bitterly say, “I can’t let those three women off easily, I have to find a lawyer quickly and sue them in court for malicious defamation.”

“That’s a good idea, do you know any lawyers?”

“I interviewed a law firm last year, they should be able to take the case.”

As Zhang Mingliu spoke, she suddenly remembered Du Qiu hadn’t answered her previous question and asked again, “You still haven’t said which police station they’re at?”

After asking, she added, “Don’t worry, I won’t make a scene at the police station. I’ll go there with the lawyer later.”

“The people are detained in a sub-branch near the hotel, but this case is under the jurisdiction of Su Jianming, the captain of the Criminal Police Second Team.

You’ve forgotten, I gave you those warning wristwatches, that night Sister Qin pressed the button in time, so Su’s team responded to the call.

Those three women will be detained for 10 to 15 days. You can take a lawyer to meet with Captain Su to get the information, and then take civil action in court.

In a while, I’ll send you Su’s phone number and WeChat.”

“Oh, got it. Is Captain Su investigating the burglary at my sister-in-law’s house last time?” asked Zhang Mingliu.

Du Qiu vaguely said, “Should be. You also need to be more careful, make sure to press the red button on your watch if there’s any danger.”

“I know, I’m going to find a lawyer now.”

After the call, Du Qiu sent Su Jianming’s phone number to Zhang Mingliu and then called Su Jianming to inform him of the situation.

“Okay, we can issue the police bulletin. Our police family’s reputation must be protected! Have her come to me,” said Su Jianming without wasting any words.

“Also, please send a policeman to the shipyard to report Qin Yun’s ordeal to their factory leaders on Saturday night, to vindicate Qin Yun. I’ve never seen such a muddle-headed leader.”

    “You’re quite thoughtful, lad.”

“Good, I’ll have Han Xiaotong go there.”

After telling Su Jianming about the previous incidents and not hanging up, Du Qiu continued, “Brother Su, there’s something else I want to ask you.”

“Whenever you call me Brother Su, you’re up to no good. Let’s get one thing straight–I won’t participate in anything against the rules,” said Su Jianming.

He knew that whenever Du Qiu, an external member of the Criminal Police Team, called someone brother, it was surely to involve them in something unconventional.

Years ago, when he was new to the Criminal Police Team, he’d been led astray by Du Qiu a couple of times, but fortunately nothing serious happened.

“Brother Su, you’re making it sound like I’ve made you break the rules before.”

Breaking rules is out of the question, but there are still things that can be done within the bounds.

“Eh, it seems like you haven’t, actually.”

“About the video I sent you yesterday, how goes the investigation? You should be able to find the guy who instigated the kids, right? The eyes of the law are omnipresent,” asked Du Qiu about yesterday’s matter.

“That guy is an old hand, he knows how to avoid the cameras. We’ve only captured a photo of his back from the surveillance. It’s a man who appears to be about 1.80 meters tall and around 30 years old,” replied Su Jianming, not concealing anything from Du Qiu.

“Send me the photo, I’ll try to add it to one of my systems and see if there’s a chance to catch him.”

“Okay, now I’m really interested in your system.”

“Brother Su, I was just thinking, we can’t wait foolishly for him to come to us; we should try to draw the snake out of its hole.”

“How do you plan to do that?”

“He put a listening bug in my car, right? I’ll make a call in the car on purpose, pretending I’ve sold the crystal cube to someone and set a time and place.”

“The person picking it up is me, right? And then that guy will be onto me,” replied Su Jianming immediately, catching on.

“Hey, you’re getting ahead of me now, Brother Su. That’s right. Then won’t he come looking for you?”

“The idea seems workable, I’ll plan it out carefully; we can’t afford to be sloppy. I also need to create a suitable identity for myself, leaving him with enough mistakes to bite on.”

“Mm, take your time, Brother Su. I’ll wait for your signal to move.”

“Alright, we’ll leave it at that.”

After hanging up the phone, Du Qiu began updating the program for his alert network on his laptop.

Previously, his alert network’s cameras were no different from regular surveillance and didn’t incorporate additional identification comparison programs like facial recognition.

Now, Du Qiu began to add features, benefiting from some excellent image processing algorithms he acquired from the super machinery’s visual perception subsystem.

Particularly, an algorithm that could capture dynamic data was part of the super machine’s standard feature set.

For it, the dynamic data captured by the visual subsystem has to go through rapid processing to ensure subsequent actions are accurate and error-free.

This process requires the discarding of a large amount of redundant dynamic data to capture the real characteristics of motion, using an exceedingly complex internal algorithm.

In reality, there are many scholars and companies researching similar capabilities, but progress is slow.

The challenge lies in the massive size of dynamic datasets and the large variance in feature marking, making it hard to achieve practical effectiveness.

Du Qiu didn’t have this problem, with ready-made software at his disposal, he only needed to find a way to transfer it into real-world computing frameworks.

Of course, to run such a program, the servers also needed an upgrade.

At the moment, Du Qiu was able to code at an impressive speed, limited only by his typing speed on the keyboard.

By noon, he had finished the modifications to the alert network program, though he hadn’t replaced the software just yet.

He was waiting for finance to allocate the budget as an additional investment, so that he could use these funds.

Being able to boost the company’s capital would indeed help attract some high-end clients for collaboration.

Just as he was ready to go out for lunch, the door knocked, and Sun Hongming entered excitedly.

“President Du, we’ve secured the Xicheng contract!”
