Chapter 93: Old Friends Reunite
by xennovelAfter Sun Hongming left, Qin Yun came in.
“Director Du, Dream Technology has no money in the accounts now, but a payment for materials and equipment is due.”
Du Qiu patted his forehead and sighed, “Just now, Brother Sun called me a billionaire. I said it’s just a shell, and now it’s about to get cracked by someone.”
Qin Yun smiled and replied, “Yes, although the three agreements have been signed, it’s still going to take a few days for the funds to arrive. After all, 1 billion is not a small amount, and they all probably need to take out loans with banks.”
“I asked you to choose those with good relationships with local banks for this very reason. Of course, we also need to have an overseas offshore company, which will facilitate the payment of part of the foreign exchange funds into our offshore company account.”
Du Qiu continued and returned to the previous topic, “How much are the two payments total?”
Qin Yun immediately responded, “Altogether it’s 2.6 million yuan. If it can’t be done, I can negotiate with the other party to delay the payment by a few days…”
“No!” Du Qiu quickly interrupted, “If we do that, it will affect our credibility, and suppliers may demand higher payment amounts in the future.
Haven’t the registered capital funds for the joint venture with Feiyu Technology arrived? Make a payment for the patent licensing fee into the R&D center account.
Then have the R&D center lend a 5 million yuan payment to Dream Technology. I’ve already promised Brother Sun to give bonuses to all staff.”
“Alright, I’ll go and take care of it.”
Du Qiu leaned back in his chair, relieved that this crisis had fortunately been a self-occurrence within Huading Group, causing the hidden problem with the big order to surface early.
If Xue Ningmei had planned and launched it after Du Qiu refused the share swap proposal from Huading Group, based on the scale of that big order, the payment would be in the tens of millions. Without preparations, Du Qiu might have had to let the wolf into the house as per her scheme.
Regarding Huading Group’s issue, a working group from the company came to the Magic City. During the previous investigation period, Du Qiu had clarified the entire situation.
Furthermore, with Dream Technology’s accounts clean, the working group ultimately concluded that Dream Technology had normal business dealings with Huading Group.
On the other hand, Xue Ningmei confessed that the big order was indeed a trap, prepared to force Du Qiu to agree upon his refusal of Huading Group’s stock exchange proposal, in combination with other measures.
After this investigation, Du Qiu and Dream Technology managed to avoid a disaster.
Fortunately, Du Qiu had always remembered his mentor’s words and never allowed Xue Ningmei direct shares in Dream Technology, otherwise, he would definitely have been implicated this time.
Also luckily, Huading Group’s issue erupted early; had it been introduced into the tripartite joint venture, there would probably still have been some trouble.
Wiser for the wear, with the patent licensing funds now available, Du Qiu decided he would never let the company run into such a financial drought again, and could handle large orders with ease.
Tasting the benefits of licensing the carbon fiber patent rights, Du Qiu saw the thousands of materials in his dreams as money.
“In an instant, there are a million possibilities…”
While musing, his cellphone rang. Du Qiu picked it up and a smile immediately appeared on his face.
Upon answering, he said, “You rascal, finally came out of the high mountains?”
“Ah ha, my dear Master Du Qiu, I’ve missed you so much!”
“Stop it, you’re too sneaky. I don’t want to be missed to death by you.”
“Master Du Qiu, Tang Country is so beautiful. West Xinjiang is a paradise on earth, its sky is the purest on Blue Star…”
“Cut it out, Hao Ren, stop with your usual overflowing emotions. Tell me, when are you coming back to Magic City? I’ll give you a grand welcome.”
“Ay ya, Master Du Qiu, you’ve become more sentimental than before. But I’m actually already in Magic City. Surprised?”
“Hmm, weren’t you going to travel until July before coming back?”
“My graduation thesis should be fine, but I can’t be too disrespectful to my advisor, can I?”
“Hao Ren, confess, is it because your father is coming?”
“My goodness, Master Du Qiu, when did you learn divination?”
“With your consistent behavior, if it wasn’t for your father coming to Tang Country, you would still be gallivanting around, never caring about your advisor’s face.”
“Alright, you win. You are my benefactor as well as my master, of course you are better than me, right?”
“There you go with that line again, an old cliché by now. Let’s get together tonight, Batti is at my company.”
“I know, I’m with Batti right now. Aren’t you surprised?”
“What the heck, you’re here already?”
Du Qiu didn’t hang up the phone; he rushed out of the office and onto the hallway, only to see not far downstairs, a black youth and a short young man standing on both sides of Rein Leinar.
“Good heavens, Little Jin is back in Tang Country.”
Du Qiu shouted and hung up the phone, hurrying down the stairs.
During his Ph.D. studies, he met Hao Ren who introduced him to Kim Zhenan from Korea, and only later did he meet Rein Leinar.
Hao Ren, originally from the Tanganyika Federation and named Salehe Mwinyi, adopted a Tang Country name after coming there.
“Come on, Master Du Qiu, give me a warm hug, and be thankful for the surprise I brought you.”
Hao Ren spread his arms, welcoming the charging Du Qiu.
Du Qiu, beaming with a smile, opened his arms and hugged Kim Zhenan standing beside him.
“Little Jin, welcome back to Tang Country.”
“Master Du Qiu, so openly playing favourites, you’ve deeply hurt me.”
Hao Ren, the tall black figure, pretended to clutch his heart in pain, not caring if it caused onlookers to cringe.
Du Qiu let go of Kim Zhenan, turned and punched towards Hao Ren, who dodged hastily, catching Du Qiu’s smile and quickly understood the playfulness.
“Come on then~” He immediately let out a Bruce Lee-style shout, blocking Du Qiu’s punch and swiftly counterattacking.
The two quickly engaged in an intense fight.
Rein Leinar and Kim Zhenan stood by with folded arms, chuckling as they watched the familiar scene.
At that moment, some engineers from the workshop gathered and, seeing their boss fighting with a tall black man, were about to join the fray.
Rein Leinar immediately stepped in and laughed, “They are master and disciple, just… sparring.” He stumbled over the last two words, pausing before finishing the sentence.
“Darn, the boss knows kung fu.”
“That move was powerful. The big black guy is having trouble.”
“I feel like the big black is being a meat shield for our boss. Don’t those punches hurt?”
“I don’t think it hurts; have you seen any change in the big black’s face?”
“Cut it out, can you even tell if his face changes?”
…
“Enough, enough, it hurts too much!”
Hao Ren suddenly retreated, crying out while rubbing his arms and legs furiously.
Obviously, though he blocked Du Qiu’s attacks, the pain was very real.
Du Qiu stood still and jokingly scolded, “You must have been slacking these past few months; your skills have regressed a lot.”
“The boss is mighty!” The surrounding employees cheered in unison.
At this point, employees from every floor of the office building who heard the cheering joined in.
Du Qiu looked around and shouted, “Alright, entertainment time is over, get back to work!”
Liu Yaofeng, also known as Liu Yaofeng, came down from upstairs, “Get back to work! Don’t you want your red envelopes?”
The employees dispersed quickly.
Du Qiu introduced his friends to Liu Yaofeng, who greeted them before going back to his work.
Du Qiu turned and smiled at Hao Ren and the others, “Why the sudden visit? Did you coordinate with Batti beforehand?”
Kim Zhenan, who is not tall and has somewhat dark skin, like many people from Korea, speaks Tang Language with some difficulty.
“I arrived in Magic City yesterday. I needed Batti’s help with some matters, and just by chance, Hao Ren also returned, so we thought of surprising you today.”
