Chapter 102: Shattered Ashes
by xennovelBoom!!!!
An endless, storm-like Sword Breath Torrent instantly dissolved everything in its path.
Amid the gleaming silver Sword Storm, Huang Kai’s scarred face flashed a moment of terror before his brain was blasted open. Red and white brain matter spread through the torrent like fuel, staining the silver vortex.
His body dissolved; his bones shattered.
At such close range, even his Third-Stage physique was as fragile as paper—he didn’t even have time to scream before being reduced to basic molecules.
The devastating impact lingered.
A perfectly straight stream of Sword Breath Torrent, like a colossal laser beam, pierced another charging Third-Stage Mutant.
The brutal Sword Storm, melting like softened butter, impaled the giant multi-legged creature from head to tail.
Boom!!
Two seconds later, the torrent subsided.
An eerie silence fell over the battlefield.
As the scattered fragments of the Third-Stage Mutant’s corpse drifted down, everyone realized that this notoriously tough mutant had turned to ash. And, of course, there was still the drifting form of Huang Kai.
It lay frozen in place.
Clutching his curved blade and planning to use Huang Kai as a distraction to strike the beast, Yun Ming now turned ashen—his heart pounded so wildly it nearly burst from his chest.
His fingers trembled.
The others could hardly believe that the Sword Breath Torrent unleashed by Yenir had nearly skimmed past him.
If he hadn’t reacted quickly, that laser-beam-like torrent would have obliterated him in an instant.
It was terrifying…
Simply horrifying…
With a gurgle, he twisted his neck toward Yenir’s pained, regretful face, feeling as if he were staring at a monster.
“Was that attack really launched by this kid!?”
“Was that damn useless Third-Stage really responsible!?”
Likewise, the Second-Stage fighters behind him gaped at the corpse fragments on the ground. The battle had ended so abruptly that in their shock, no one realized a Third-Stage had fallen at Yenir’s hand.
Ignoring everyone’s astonishment, Yenir, eyes full of sorrow and regret, addressed the small pile of ashes on the ground:
“I even warned you to dodge! Why didn’t you move?”
His anguish was palpable.
Crouching down, he swiftly collected the equipment that had burst forth upon Huang Kai’s death:
“Brother!”
“You risked your life to save me! I promise I’ll take your belongings back and give you a proper burial!”
Clutching a handful of what looked like either lime or ashes, Yenir quickly stuffed it into his pocket as he explained regretfully to the dazed Yun Ming:
“Brother Huang Kai risked everything, standing in front of me to block the monster’s attack.”
“Desperate to save him, I had no choice but to use my skills.”
“But I never expected a slight miscalculation to end up affecting him.”
“Sigh…”
Listening to Yenir’s asinine explanation, Yun Ming’s mouth dropped open in disbelief; he was utterly stunned.
“Huang Kai saved you?”
“You accidentally misfired?!”
“And you blasted the skill right at his head!? That’s not a misfire, it’s a direct hit!”
Seeing Yenir’s pained, regretful expression, he thought it was nothing more than a pitiful farce—a cat crying over a mouse.
For a moment, he could have sworn he saw a hint of menace in Yenir’s eyes. Recalling the terrifying attack, he forced himself to agree:
“Lord Ye Lin, you shouldn’t be too upset…”
“Mistakes in battle are inevitable… I believe Brother Huang Kai won’t blame you!”
With a mournful expression, he dared not question.
In his eyes, Yenir was a hidden powerhouse—a super-strong fighter whose attack was clearly meant to kill Huang Kai!
If he exposed him, he feared he might be next on the casualty list!
Damn it, why did we have such a twisted monster hidden in our ranks!?
Satisfied, Yenir nodded and shot Yun Ming a glance tinged with admiration.
“Good, that’s the spirit.”
He didn’t care what others really thought—as long as their words checked out, whether they believed him was none of his concern.
Glancing at the equipment that had burst from Huang Kai, Yenir felt a surge of joy.
Both the weapon and shield were blue, and he was decked out in white gear. That could fetch at least 170,000, if not 180,000.
“You’re a good man…”
“I’ll take good care of your belongings.”
Throwing the equipment at the feet of the Middle-Aged Man behind him, Yenir wasted no time preparing to launch at another target.
“Watch over Brother Huang’s belongings for me!”
With that, he leaped over the soundproof barrier, ready to claim the kill—no, to assist the Military in resolving the crisis.
Holding the Psychic Rifle, the Middle-Aged Man stared in terror at the tossed equipment, as if caught in a surreal dream.
What a twisted weirdo this young man was…
……..
Amid the orderly chaos of battle, several Military Third-Stage fighters exchanged looks filled with deep suspicion.
“Did any of you sense that psychic surge just now?”
“I swear it felt like there was at least a Third-Stage Intermediate psychic force!”
“I don’t know…”
“I felt it too… Could someone over there have unleashed a hidden skill? That doesn’t add up—they’re all just Third-Stage Beginners.”
It was beyond comprehension.
In the moment the aura was detected, four Third-Stage fighters were nearly paralyzed with shock.
“Could it be that someone from the Demon-Hunting Team stepped in? I think his skills aren’t too shabby.”
Wielding his giant sword, Wang Yangping dodged the mutant’s attack and, with a hint of unease, hushed the debate.
“Focus on the kill! This creature won’t last much longer!”
“If any Third-Stage Intermediate shows up, we’ll figure out a counterattack!”
Though still puzzled, he knew that slaying the mutant was the top priority, leaving no room for further thought.
“Watch out…”
No sooner had the words left his lips than Wang Yangping’s eyes widened in shock.
He sensed that someone had directly breached the soundproof barrier he had set up.
“Who is it!?”
He cried out.
In the next moment, the anxious Yenir burst through the barrier, looking at them with genuine concern:
“Colonel Wang! I’ve come to save you all!”
“Hold on!”
Wang Yangping: ?????
