Chapter Index

Yenir, what do you need these materials for?

Inside the Secure Treasury Examination Room, a Middle-Aged Awakened looked puzzled at the young man before him—and at his ‘bodyguard’ standing behind.

He recognized Yenir; after all, news about him had been spreading among the Capital’s elite these past few days.

Everyone knew—he was of too low a rank.

Even the Third-Stage Advanced Awakener silently trailing behind Yenir couldn’t help but be impressed.

Just as the rumors said, the higher-ups really treated this kid like a prized asset.

He was accompanied by Third-Stage Advanced protection, with an entire Third-Stage squad at his back. Such treatment was simply outrageous.

“These materials are all at least Grade A. Do you need them right now?”

Unlike his casual treatment of others, Deputy Minister of Military Logistics Cang Haiqiong now beamed as he politely reviewed the materials list in his hand.

Demanding such high-grade materials from the start—this kid sure has some nerve…

If it were any other Third-Stage rookie, he wouldn’t even bat an eye and would have them dismissed by his subordinates. But when it came to Yenir’s request, he took it very seriously.

    “That’s right.”

“Deputy Minister Canghai, please see if you can gather these materials. They are crucial for my talent.”

With a casual smile, Yenir fabricated an excuse and looked at the middle-aged man with anticipation.

Once he adapted to his Third-Stage abilities, he wasted no time dragging Zhao Long over to the treasury to apply for a quota.

Heart of the Mountain Destroyer, Human-Faced Falcon Bone Liquid, Shredder’s Spine, Core of the Otherworldly Ghost…

All four materials are needed to upgrade the Sword God System! They not only drastically cut skill cooldowns but also provide a crucial bonus of Spirit Energy.

Above all, Yenir was eager to witness the enhanced power of the Sword God System!

After a gentle nod, Deputy Minister Canghai pondered for a moment before summoning his staff and issuing a firm command:

“Go check if the treasury has them.”

“Inform the Sixth-Level guards, Third-Stage—they must know I approve.”

While waiting, Cang Haiqiong casually chatted with Yenir. For a genius with such abnormal potential, he didn’t mind building a rapport early on.

    …….

    Ten minutes later.

“Minister, the treasury only has two of them.”

“One is the Heart of the Mountain Destroyer, and the other is the Spine. Both are Grade A materials and were among the first mutant materials recorded in the treasury.”

“In fact, the Shredder’s Spine was borrowed by Institute Two several years ago for research and has yet to be returned.”

Frowning slightly, Cang Haiqiong glanced awkwardly at Yenir after hearing his subordinate’s report.

Only moments ago, he had boasted to Yenir that he practically had everything the young man could want! With decades of accumulation in the Capital Military District’s treasury, its resources were nearly limitless!

But it turned out to be a total slap in the face.

Glancing at the information in his hand, Cang Haiqiong let out a wry chuckle:

“Yenir, the things you’re requesting are rather special.”

“From what I see, these are mutant materials that first appeared thirty, even forty years ago—and they can only be produced at a minimum of Third-Stage Intermediate level.”

“As you know, many mutants in the battle zone tend to congregate in one area, making them too risky to hunt.”

“The Military hasn’t organized an operation in a long time.”

He felt a tinge of disappointment.

Yenir sighed inwardly; when he saw the system-required materials, he knew these items wouldn’t be easy to get. He just hadn’t expected the treasury to have only two.

“Does Deputy Minister Canghai know where to find the other two? Or rather, where did these two mutants ever appear?”

“To be honest, I really need this batch of materials.”

After a long pause as he mulled over Yenir’s question, Cang Haiqiong finally offered an uncertain answer:

“The Human-Faced Falcon… I’ve heard of it. About twenty-seven years ago, there was a mutant beast attack that killed over sixty thousand people. Four Third-Stage Intermediates tried to intervene, but the creature got away.”

“This mutant beast was roughly below Advanced Third-Stage level. Its appearance was likely in the South China Battle Zone.”

“In South China, the Military’s control is weaker. The Bloodshadow Legion might have some. Their forces are nearly at the Peak Third-Stage, ranking among the best domestically.”

“As for the Core of the Otherworldly Ghost…”

    He frowned deeply.

Cang Haiqiong racked his brain for a long while but couldn’t recall any information on it.

“It sounds like something produced by a paranormal entity. You might ask the research institute over there—Institute Seven, which handles the three major incidents. They might know.”

Hearing Cang Haiqiong’s response, Yenir sighed and resigned himself; it seemed the mission would be tougher than expected.

The Bloodshadow Legion, huh? He did remember them, though his impression wasn’t too good.

He recalled that in the second year of his previous life, during the turmoil in the Huaxia Battle Zone, that faction broke away, causing an already fragile defense to collapse instantly.

Noticing Yenir’s dejection, Cang Haiqiong hesitated for a moment before offering some consolation:

“Yenir, if you really need these, I can request additional manpower from the Military to help locate them.”

“Rest assured, with your rank, your needs can be met. However, it might take a while—recently, the regions around Huaxia haven’t been peaceful; many Third-Stage operatives have been reassigned to support missions.”

    He didn’t say much more.

Though these materials were precious, given Yenir’s current status, applying for them wasn’t an issue. He was even willing to do some favors.

    “Then thank you, Deputy Minister.”

After a quiet thank you, Yenir quickly began plotting his next steps in his mind.

Having the Military search for them wouldn’t be very efficient. In their eyes, taking several months wouldn’t be a big deal—they’d likely give it their all. After all, taking down a Third-Stage Intermediate mutant isn’t easy. Such mobilization is no small matter.

But Yenir couldn’t wait that long.

If necessary, he’d have the Military gather some leads first, then head out himself. Until he found Researcher Sun, upgrading the Sword God System was his fastest path to increased combat power! Time was tight—there was no room for delay.

As for the Core of the Otherworldly Ghost…

At Institute Seven, he did know a few people—and he’d also reclaim some materials that the other institute was about to take away.

With that thought, Yenir spoke up once more:

“Deputy Minister Canghai, please just hand over the Heart of the Mountain Destroyer, and add 1000 units of Soul Crystals!”

Hearing his request, Cang Haiqiong was taken aback for a moment before hesitantly replying:

“Yenir, your current clearance might not be sufficient… To be honest, you know how valuable materials above Grade A are.”

“Taking these materials out requires sign-off from multiple departments.”

    He hinted indirectly.

He had promised Yenir that he’d look for the materials later, but for now, Yenir’s clearance was only at the lowest ‘Spark Sequence’—let alone Grade A materials and Soul Crystals. Snagging some Spiritual Energy Fruit would be considered lucky.

The allocation of privileges per sequence was set in stone!

As his words fell, Yenir’s brows furrowed. He didn’t argue—rules were rules. It seemed he’d have to wait…

However, before Yenir could plan to collect them in a few days, the very Cang Haiqiong who had just cited the rules suddenly smiled mysteriously:

    “Ahem…”

“Even though the rules exist, a little leniency isn’t off the table.”

“Xiao Zhang! Get the supplies ready and deliver them directly to Lord Yenir!”

Yenir was taken aback upon hearing this, instinctively glancing toward Cang Haiqiong.

There, Cang Haiqiong wore a fox-like grin, his smile radiant—as if he were deliberately currying favor.

    Yenir: ….

    …….

“Deputy Minister Canghai!? Are we really delivering them to Yenir? His clearance is completely inadequate…”

As Yenir left, an Awakener in the Examination Room looked at his superior in astonishment. He couldn’t understand why Deputy Minister Canghai was so lenient—breaking the rules just to curry favor with Yenir.

Without a word, he glanced at his protégé before Cang Haiqiong quietly chuckled and murmured:

    “You’re thinking too narrowly…”

“Yenir comes to me asking for things—does he not know his current sequence?”

“He claims it’s all for fairness, insisting on a death duel with Commander Zhang’s son.”

“But clearly, he doesn’t care about the rules—acting as if he were First-Sequence! What does that imply? That he’s out to assert his dominance and seek revenge, sending a message that Yenir is not someone to be trifled with!”

“With such a ruthless mentality, I suspect we’ll have a good show the day after tomorrow.”

Without further ado, Cang Haiqiong let the young man figure the rest out on his own.

Whatever the outcome, Yenir’s approach was bound to deeply offend Zhang Meng—and likely ruffle the feathers of many factions. Knowing Yenir essentially lacked strong backing, he decided to invest a little early.

He was subtly letting Yenir know that Cang Haiqiong didn’t mind bending a few rules and would lend a hand. If Yenir ever wanted to build his own power, he’d certainly have his support.

At the very least, one must pay their dues, right?

    Chapter Summary
