Chapter 211: A New Level of Divine Fury
by xennovelThis name… it’s pretty badass…
As the system prompt rang in his ears, Yenir stared blankly at the icon bearing the unique title ‘Divine Fury’—a far cry from his other skills.
The gray icon hadn’t lit up… it seemed it required specific conditions to activate.
“Divine Fury: SSS-Level Sword Technique”
“Once you enter combat, continue to build up Rage. Upon reaching a frenzied state and racking up 10 consecutive kills against enemies (of the same level), the skill will unlock.”
“Unlock Phase: Consume all current Spirit Energy to summon a Pseudo Fourth-Stage Phantom, delivering an unavoidable and massive blow to your target.”
Fourth-Stage Phantom!?
Gazing at the simple yet brutally direct description, Yenir felt a sudden jolt in his heart.
The conditions for releasing the skill had been radically transformed.
Where it used to require a fixed ten-second stationary charge, it now unlocked after sustained combat.
Though still somewhat clumsy in execution, the evolved Divine Fury was decidedly more versatile.
Just the instant activation followed by summoning the Fourth-Stage Phantom completely outclassed its previous, more stagnant version.
Pseudo Fourth-Stage?
Does that mean it can instantly finish off a Peak Third-Stage foe?
The question raced through his mind.
Despite his doubts, Yenir was resolute.
No matter what, taking down a high-level Third-Stage opponent in a blink was definitely within reach!
He silently marveled—this time, even he felt a touch of madness about his own abilities.
In an ideal fight scenario, if the enemy had a high-tier Third-Stage fighter surrounding him…
In a flash, a sweeping Sword Breath Torrent would dispatch the ‘minion’ enemy, and before the enemy Third-Stage fighter could even react, Yenir would summon the Fourth-Stage Phantom…
Imagining the scene, Yenir nearly burst into laughter.
If that really happened, his opponent’s morale would shatter instantly.
The only drawback: the summoned phantom was a Pseudo Fourth-Stage, and how it compared to the real thing was anyone’s guess…
Otherwise, Yenir mused… perhaps he could now march straight into the North American Battle Zone and eliminate the best of the best.
After quickly clearing a group of Third-Stage weaklings, he’d trigger the Divine Fury and, with a single swing, finish off the enemy’s top warrior!
Then, with a global livestream, he’d announce to everyone that Yenir was the number one in the world—and that all that Peak Third-Stage nonsense was garbage!
Forget about leveling up or setting up fancy formations.
Even a basic Third-Stage could trample the globe—all would be forced to kneel and call him ‘father’.
“Yenir?! You’ve already learned the skill?!”
Unlike Yenir’s inner thrill, Wang Xiaotian’s face turned grim, desperation threatening to spill over.
Damn it! His superiors had explicitly warned him not to let Yenir learn any off-the-wall skills.
But he never expected that Yenir would treat such a serious matter as casually as merely learning a new skill!
This is a disaster…
Even if it were any of his other three skills, a ten-second charge—especially in a scuffle against mutants—would be excruciatingly long. What kind of fool could stand still long enough to prepare?
“Not bad.”
“Uh… Director Wang, don’t worry. I think this skill suits me just fine.”
Seeing Wang Xiaotian’s exasperated expression, Yenir managed a wry smile and offered a half-hearted reassurance.
He knew Wang was worried about him.
But with the Sword God System at his fingertips, even if this skill was garbage, he could always fall back on a second Sword Breath Torrent…
Divine Fury was an incredibly useful asset, arguably his strongest trump card at this stage!
If it weren’t for the restrictions, he’d be dying to test out what the Fourth-Stage Phantom was really capable of!
Catching Yenir’s indifferent look, Wang Xiaotian sighed bitterly, thinking that if the emperor isn’t anxious, the eunuchs surely are.
“Yenir! Do you realize that during the lock-on, the enemy gets a warning? Do you know what that means?!”
“It means that as soon as you activate the skill, they’ll treat you as a huge threat. Everyone will focus their attacks on you!”
“When you’re forced to use this skill, you’re already at a disadvantage. Using it is like turning yourself into a living target!”
“Even if you tried to ambush them, there’s no way!”
Wang Xiaotian winced, unable to help analyzing the pros and cons. If not for its severe limitations and glaring weaknesses, a skill capable of breaking through levels like this would never have made it this far…
Every Awakener eligible for this area had once been tempted by such a skill, but for decades, without exception, all had reluctantly abandoned it.
A ten-second charge is simply too long. Unable to move or fight back while charging, in a battle among Awakeners that amounts to a death sentence.
A sigh of resignation.
Wang Xiaotian clutched his chest, unable to say another word.
Now that things had come to this—Yenir had already learned it—could he really let his opponent spit it out?
He could only hope the Military wouldn’t blame him later…
Meanwhile, Yenir, having learned the skill, wasn’t about to waste any time.
His purpose had been achieved; staying here was pointless. He might as well return to absorb Spirit Energy and prepare for what’s next.
But just as he was about to speak and leave, a flurry of footsteps erupted outside the sealed alloy door behind him.
“Beep beep beep beep”
Following a rapid flurry of code inputs, the locked door swung open to reveal a Middle-aged Woman accompanied by several Third-Stage Awakened fighters.
“S-Level Skill has already been used?”
“You must be Yenir?”
“That works out perfectly. Stay here for now—I need your data.”
Without a trace of emotion, the Middle-aged Woman, holding an electronic tablet and furrowing her brows in a rather sharp manner, spoke to Yenir.
She quickly tapped a few commands on her tablet and then, without mincing words, addressed Yenir.
After speaking, she continued scrutinizing Yenir with a frown, her gaze making him feel inspected like a lab specimen.
A brief moment of hesitation.
Yenir nonchalantly tilted his head toward Wang Xiaotian, unsure of exactly what kind of person the woman was.
Since his rewards, no one had been so curt with him. Her tone was practically a command.
“Yenir, this is our Research Director, Wanrou!”
“She probably wants you to stay and test the data from the Extinction (Jì Mì) processes for the Military’s reference…”
As she spoke, Wang Xiaotian gave a helpless little tug on Yenir’s arm, signaling him not to mind her attitude.
This woman was the principal; he was just the deputy.
Normally, he handled high-level missions while Wanrou dealt strictly with research. It was obvious from her cold demeanor that she was the type who wouldn’t change her approach with anyone.
“Is that even a rule?”
“Mandatory?”
Yenir wasn’t really upset by the Middle-aged Woman’s tone.
He could tell this woman was straightforward by nature; she likely treated everyone the same way.
“That’s right! You must stay!”
“It’s fine, Yenir, you can leave for now…”
Almost as soon as Yenir asked, both Wang Xiaotian and Wanrou spoke up—two completely contradictory answers that left Wang Xiaotian feeling instantly embarrassed.
A sinking feeling hit him as he forced a bitter smile, frustration starting to bubble up.
He was trying to be friendly with Yenir. With his sharp eyes, he could tell Yenir had no intention of staying to test. That was normal; most genius Third-Stages didn’t like having too many of their abilities scrutinized. Typically, he’d bring them in, wrap things up quickly, and send them on their way.
Damn! That old hag is butting heads with me again!
