Chapter 214: The Mysterious Arsenal
by xennovelThe box was heavy.
The jet-black safe, resembling a reinforced ammo box, was carefully carried over by four soldiers.
Noticing Yenir’s puzzled look at the unusually heavy equipment, the leading officer, after a formal salute, explained in a low tone:
“Lord Yenir, the set components are quite unique – they’ve been stored for about seventeen years.”
“Due to their rarity and value, the external box is a blue prop designed to obscure its true effects.”
He raised an eyebrow.
Listening to the officer’s explanation, Yenir calmly retracted his probing spirit force and nodded slightly.
No wonder he couldn’t “see” what was inside – he could only faintly sense a chill laced with a hint of lethal austerity. So the box came with a self-shielding effect…
It was the first time encountering such a situation, but Yenir figured that given the set’s preciousness, this was indeed warranted.
However… the set is described as unique? Stored for seventeen years, it must hold some secret history…
Seeing that the military team delivering the equipment wasn’t planning to say more, Yenir pushed aside his mild doubts and decided not to overthink it.
He was sure he’d learn more soon enough.
Moments later, accompanied by the dull thud of heavy objects hitting the ground, the lead officer signaled a soldier behind him to present a document.
“Lord Yenir, please sign here; it confirms that we have delivered the items.”
“Inside is a set component – an epic longsword. If you’re not satisfied or wish to exchange it later, just contact the Armaments Division.”
“If there’s nothing else, we will take our leave.”
Glancing at the taciturn officer, Yenir said no more as he quickly signed his name on the form.
A minute later, the unit departed.
After moving the box back to the supplies, Yenir stood in front of it and, following the manual, tentatively placed his palm on the groove on the side.
The next second, a mechanical sound echoed, followed by the continuous clatter of gears emanating from the box.
“Beep, identity verified…”
“Unlocker: A+ Level Honorary Member… Yenir”
“Kach—”
A burst of cold air was expelled.
A panel resembling a mechanical platform slowly slid open, and in an instant, a chill with a faint iron tang filled the air.
Yenir stared intently, seeing a narrow, translucent sword with an icy crystal look emerging from a black recess, continuously exuding waves of cold.
Within the blade, thin strands of red and blue shimmered and moved as if alive.
An elemental weapon?
Without warning, a thought struck Yenir.
Its peculiar design immediately reminded him of that special weapon type – so exquisite it looked more like a work of art.
Raising his eyes slightly, his most anticipated set component was a metallic-looking wrist guard.
Entirely black and gold, it bore simple engravings of unknown characters.
Yet the higher level set component looked astonishingly more ordinary than the sword…
If not for his strong spirit force, which constantly detected a lethal aura emanating from the wrist guard, Yenir almost suspected that the Military kept delivering the wrong items.
This thing… seems a bit off?
He reached out directly to grab the wrist guard.
A slight sting accompanied by a mechanical system prompt sounded instantly:
“Beep, acquired legendary set component [Ravager Gauntlet]”
“[Ravager Gauntlet]”
“Attributes: +12 Agility”
“Effect: Increases attack speed by 75% and gives a 10% chance to perform a double strike on hit, ignoring damage reduction.”
“Skill: Bone Shatter, Blood Burst”
“Bone Shatter: After dealing damage, greatly reduces the target’s healing capabilities and may force limb dismemberment. Once the target is slain, its body cannot remain whole or be revived.”
“Blood Burst: Upon causing damage that results in bleeding, 1000 points of spirit energy can be expended to ignite the blood. While burning, the target loses a proportionate amount of health every second and is plunged into agony. After a kill, an additional 1500 spirit energy can be used to cause the blood within the corpse to detonate, resulting in area damage.”
“Evaluation: A blood-soaked, body-shattering masterpiece… truly beautiful…”
“Component Status: 1/6 missing. A minimum of two items is needed to activate the set’s bonus effect.”
“Two-item set bonus: Cursed Blade!”
A slight sting at his fingertips made Yenir pause in surprise.
The effect was potent, though not particularly dazzling.
What truly startled him was the sheer bloodiness of this component – one could only imagine the brutality once the full set was assembled.
It involved both burning blood and explosive dismemberment…
He wondered what kind of being the Awakener who once possessed it might have been.
Regarding the set’s strength, Yenir felt it was rather solid – its power wasn’t in any single piece, but in their combined synergy. Once fully assembled, multiple effects could be triggered.
Take this set for instance – its design clearly favored annihilation and suppression of healing, clearly built for extreme offense. It wouldn’t be surprising if the other components offered similar effects, leaving enemies with little hope of survival.
Without the second component, a single piece could only be deemed epic.
As for the combined [Cursed Blade]…
Somehow, Yenir felt the name seemed oddly familiar.
A piece of equipment sealed away for seventeen years… such a precious component locked up like this must have an untold story. Could it be connected to its former master?
After directly equipping the wrist guard, Yenir racked his brain for any relevant memories, but came up empty.
Oh well, as long as he could use it.
He just wasn’t sure if there was a second component in the Capital; chances were slim, otherwise he’d have heard about it.
The moment he donned the wrist guard, he felt his blood surge briefly within him.
It was as if his blood began to boil, leaving his face ashen in an instant.
This thing… packs quite a punch…
With a light exhale, he reached once more for the ice-crystal-like longsword.
Hot… cold…
At the moment his hand touched it, two bizarre temperatures coursed through his palm. Simultaneously, the red and blue hues within the blade swirled wildly, as if awakened.
Before Yenir could ponder further, the sword reverted to its prior state after just one second.
“Beep, acquired epic equipment [Elemental Wind Blade]”
“[Elemental Wind Blade]”
“Attributes: +9 Strength, +9 Agility”
“Effect: Automatically applies a wind blade effect on attack, extending the reach up to 3 meters. The wind blade deals 33% damage with a slicing effect.”
“Skills: Fury Blaze, Frostburst”
“Fury Blaze: Consumes 700 spirit energy to convert the weapon’s attribute to flame, adding burning damage on attack and triggering a Fury Blaze slash that delivers 175% extra damage. It then leaves behind a firewall on the ground that deals a total of 200% burn damage over 10 seconds.”
“Frostburst: Consumes 900 spirit energy to convert the weapon’s attribute to frost, slowing and freezing the target on attack. After planting the sword into the ground, a rapid freeze engulfs the area causing an ice explosion. If not released, it forms an icy shield around the wielder that deflects attacks and chills foes.”
“Evaluation: The power of the elements is summoning…”
“Mmm, this thing is impressive…”
In the room, Yenir gripped the Elemental Wind Blade with fond possessiveness, and, thrilled by the prospects, he couldn’t help but mimic a swing.
In its Fury Blaze mode, the sword’s blade suddenly radiated intense heat, distorting the surrounding air.
The entire blade glowed a blazing orange, as if molten rock was slowly flowing over it.
With a twitch of his wrist, Yenir switched the Elemental Wind Blade to Frostburst mode, and visible frost rapidly spread around him.
“Dual attributes – balanced offense and defense, with crowd control, damage over time, and burst potential…”
“Single-target, area attacks and wind blade strikes with no resource cost…”
“Impressive…”
After testing the new weapon, joy spread across Yenir’s face. This epic piece was undoubtedly top-tier among its peers! Although its molten mode resembled the flame sword he had borrowed previously, its power was in a league of its own.
Compared to this weapon, the one he had lent from Chen Yong was nothing more than a heated rod!
