Chapter 248: Chaos Over the Manor
by xennovel“Wah–”
“Wah—”
A prolonged alarm blared across the entire city.
As they steered the Floating Car back to the Manor, the squad members glanced around gravely at the chaotic scenes unfolding.
A massive deployment of military police had transformed the once bustling city into a state of panic.
Survivors, dragging bundles of belongings, could be seen desperately trying to escape.
“Is that the nuclear blast outside the city…?”
“Yenir, it looks like we’re in real trouble…”
In the back seat, Ming Luo eyed the guards who were tirelessly checking vehicle entries into the city. Just the thought of the nuclear devices Yenir had unleashed and the terror they had spread throughout the Federation was enough to send shivers down his spine.
Unless we act quickly, large troop formations are on their way. If we don’t complete our mission soon, we might end up facing the same fate as the Japanese and Korean Battle Zone.
The idea of hundreds of Third-Stage mechs advancing makes my skin crawl.
Contrary to Ming Luo’s worry, Yenir merely smiled casually:
“Don’t worry. We want them to notice us!”
Before entering the instance, he never planned on hiding his strength, nor did he ever intend to avoid engaging NPCs.
If he wanted to seize the highest authority within the instance, he had to leverage every advantage!
Bringing back mere tens or even hundreds of tons of ore meant nothing.
He coveted an entire vein! He aimed for the whole instance world to bend to his will! How else could he achieve it without taking risks and extreme measures?
Seeing Yenir remain relaxed inexplicably, the rest of the squad’s tension began to ease.
They understood that Yenir’s methods were in a league of their own, operating on an entirely different wavelength.
Yet, they were still clueless about what to do next…
………………
Fifteen minutes later.
As the Floating Car sped into the air above the Manor, within seconds a vast number of fully armed soldiers suddenly went on high alert on the ground.
“That’s the group dispatched to attack the Governor!”
“Watch out! Their abilities are extraordinarily unique!!”
A stunned Manor guard—recently knocked out—shouted urgently to the nearby soldiers.
These troops had arrived shortly after the nuclear explosion!
The reason was simple: after the blast, the garrison found themselves unable to contact the Governor! The earlier mobilization orders had been issued by both the Governor and the Mainframe!
Realizing that someone had hijacked the Governor, the entire garrison rushed over to rescue him.
From the Governor’s half-truths, they deduced that a group of mysterious attackers had assaulted the area.
“Engage now. Minimize casualties.”
“Finish it quickly.”
On the Floating Car, after a few offhand instructions, Yenir leaped deeper into the fray, seemingly unbothered by the aim of his electromagnetic rifle.
All the Third-Stage mechs and elite forces had been diverted to swarm the enemy; the remaining garrison posed no threat to them.
As they plummeted, the soldiers on the ground gaped in disbelief at the squad members who seemingly threw themselves into a suicidal descent. Only after a moment of shock did they scramble to open fire.
At the same time, with a flash of white light in his hand, Yenir summoned the epic Elemental Wind Blade.
Its attribute: Frost!
In an instant, a chilling aura transformed into a ghostly blue icy shield, halting every bullet in its path.
Frostburst!
The impact from the descent was so overwhelming that even Spirit Energy wasn’t summoned; relying on his weapon’s inherent power, a circle of biting cold instantly froze the ground.
Nearby, armed soldiers suddenly felt as if they had tumbled into an ice pit, as a layer of frost rapidly enveloped them.
In the blink of an eye, the entire entrance of the Manor appeared to succumb to an arctic nightmare.
“Fire, fire!!”
Faces contorted in panic and disbelief as each garrison captain watched the unfolding scene, their scalps prickling with dread.
In their eyes, Yenir—wielding a sword to summon an icy ring—looked like a character straight out of a movie! With no time to ponder further, they frantically pulled their triggers as electromagnetic bullets, like silver dragons, cascaded in a dense net of firepower.
“Boom, boom, boom!!”
“Whoosh!!”
Gunshots and the sonic booms from the Third-Stage mech ripped through everything.
But all resistance was futile. Against Third-Stage might, ordinary people were barely more than ants.
Within mere seconds, despite Ming Luo and others holding back as much as they could, the entire unit was decimated like a blank sheet.
On the ground, most soldiers either passed out from the strikes or writhed in agony clutching their stomachs. In areas targeted by Yenir, soldiers were frozen in place like ice sculptures.
The sight was gruesome.
The garrison commander led his men, watching in terror as his soldiers, no matter how fiercely they fired, seemed immune to the mysterious attackers—bullets bouncing off as if they were nothing!
These weren’t humans; they were monsters! They simply couldn’t be beaten—completely unbeatable!
The battle ended without a doubt.
Surveying the line of soldiers inadvertently frozen into ice sculptures by his actions, Yenir shook his head slightly and fixed his gaze on the Governor at the far end.
Pathetic…
He had intentionally spared them as much as possible.
Enduring the frenzy of the few remaining squads’ relentless fire, he smiled gently at the trembling Governor.
“Didn’t I tell you? Just follow orders…”
“Bang!”
In an instant, Yenir exploded into action. Like an arrow fired from a bow, he landed right before the Governor and, with a single sweep of his hand, sent the surrounding soldiers flying with immense force.
The Governor’s face filled with despair as he beheld the nightmarish Yenir once again.
The bulky figure staggered backward, screaming in panic:
“It’s not my fault! It’s not my fault at all!!”
“They came on their own! I never called them!”
“Sir! Please, have mercy on me! I cooperated—I really cooperated with everything!”
His voice trembled in a near-cry.
He felt so “wronged.” Though he had hesitated after Yenir and his gang left, wondering whether to secretly activate the underground emergency line for help, he couldn’t help but believe Yenir’s outrageous abilities and absurd explanations.
So, he just stayed put in the Manor, too terrified to step anywhere.
But who would’ve thought that Yenir would actually mobilize his forces to hunt down these supposed enemies—and even dare to deploy nuclear weapons!
Almost immediately after the nuclear devices detonated, the province’s detection systems picked up anomalies, and the upper echelons scrambled like mad to trace his whereabouts!
Elsewhere, cries suddenly erupted from within the Manor.
A young girl with tear-red eyes, mustering every bit of courage, burst out sobbing:
“Please don’t kill my father! I beg you—I’ll do anything!”
It was Anna emerging from hiding, and right behind her, a tall youth in a standard school uniform dashed out.
“Anna! Come back!!”
The youth’s face was pale with fear as he stared at Yenir, who was of similar age. His clenched axe betrayed the anxiety churning inside him.
He had seen it—Yenir in action! This unbelievable power shattered the limits of his imagination!
It was like a group of superheroes had crashed into his seemingly normal life!
Standing still, Yenir raised an amused eyebrow as he regarded the youth who had shielded Anna behind him.
Despite his terror, he still brandished his axe in defiance. In a single glance, Yenir recognized him as the world’s protagonist—Lin Rui.
That very Lin Rui he had secretly longed for.
Admirable courage, though ultimately futile. Clearly, he was a hot-blooded youth—a textbook main character.
After a brief moment of reflection, Yenir decided not to dwell any further on it.
Yet, strangely, he felt an uncanny kinship with the role of the villain.
Casually walking toward Lin Rui, the barely perceptible aura emanating from him forced the young man to hunch over. Meeting Lin Rui’s defiant, steadfast gaze, Yenir chuckled lightly and said:
“Relax. I’m not here to kill anyone.”
“Do I look like a bad guy?”
Tilting his head, Yenir casually squeezed the axe in Lin Rui’s hand until it crumpled like cotton.
Locking eyes with Lin Rui’s hostile glare, he added:
“Boy, would you like to join me in saving the world?”
“Huh!!?”
