Chapter Index

    Click-clack—click-clack.

Camera flashes stuttered in rapid succession.

Outside the Federation Tower, a reporter armed with cameras and assorted equipment snapped photos frantically, as glaring white lights focused on Yenir navigating through the crowd.

Since the sudden convening of the Federation Summit, every move here had drawn the attention of all sectors of society. Especially after several edicts were issued, the well-connected quickly suspected that this bold move was linked to that mysterious youth.

    “Secure the area!”

“There must be no mistakes at this summit! Half of the Federation’s top brass are here!”

“Political and business elites, along with several public figures, are attending!”

Under a formation of nearly a thousand soldiers, the Secretary General in charge of the event barked orders at an officer, his eyes subconsciously drifting toward Yenir entering the hall.

At Yenir’s request, they had managed to gather the world’s elite in just one day, making security a top priority.

Besides, with those ‘superhumans’ around, nothing should go wrong.

After all, he had seen video footage of Yenir shattering a mech unit with a single kick.

    “Rest easy, Secretary General.”

“We’ve not only deployed the guard unit but also arranged for ten Class-A mechs.”

    “Absolutely foolproof!”

The soldier in charge of security confidently guaranteed this without a trace of concern.

Yet, unbeknownst to him, three soldiers behind exchanged subtle glances.

“Uncle Zheng, are we just going in guns blazing?”

    “I’m a bit nervous…”

Wearing his disguise gear, Lin Rui swallowed hard, his hand gripping the rifle trembling slightly.

Though Yenir had already explained the plan, the reality of executing it had kept him awake since yesterday.

Everything was utterly insane—it all felt like a dream.

After Yenir reprogrammed the security system, they managed to infiltrate the security crew. As long as they posed as monsters and began their attack at the summit, the plan would be complete.

Nearby, Zheng Cheng noticed Lin Rui’s nervousness and casually patted his shoulder.

“Don’t worry—just follow the list and take your shots.”

“Get used to it; there are plenty of infected out there.”

    He smiled wryly.

“If it’s your first time killing, just make sure you don’t get sick afterwards. Any hiccup and the higher-ups will start asking questions.”

Jokingly, Zheng Cheng scanned the passing elites. Some were in sharp suits while others wore elaborate formal wear, as if they were headed to a gala.

Under Yenir’s claim that potions would be distributed at this summit, these elites swarmed like dogs catching the scent of a bone.

They cared little for the Federation’s vague warnings of an impending apocalypse.

More than the exaggerated rumors, they were drawn to the mysterious potions. It was said that taking them could restore youth—or even temporarily grant immense power! At their level, nothing was more enticing than a promise of a prolonged, vibrant life.

“First batch of targets: 7,320 individuals…”

“The remainder—mostly high-ranking soldiers in the forces, modified with organ replacements…”

Zheng Cheng murmured under his breath, a flicker of awe crossing his eyes.

Admittedly, Yenir’s plan was as wild as it was brutal.

But for Third-Stage Awakened like them, donning blood in the service of the mission was trivial, especially when the targets were nothing more than dungeon NPCs.

    ……….

Two hours later, under a darkening sky, vibrant lights from the building reflected into the grand meeting hall.

Everyone sat upright—faces strained in forced smiles or fixed with eager anticipation—as they watched Yenir on stage.

“Please welcome Yenir to address the gathering!”

Thunderous applause erupted, though it carried an unmistakable tone of perfunctory politeness.

Stepping away from the dais, Bayen beamed at Yenir and gestured for him to begin.

However, as Bayen moved to stand beside Yenir, his gaze fixed on the ring on Yenir’s finger.

He had seen the self-proclaimed traveler repeatedly pull items from that ring—surely it was filled with mysterious potions! If not for Yenir’s looming presence, he and the Military would have snatched it to study.

With a smile, Yenir paid no heed to the greed lurking in Bayen’s eyes, though he snorted inwardly.

He knew full well that the Federation hadn’t taken their warnings seriously—any so-called cooperation was only grudgingly accepted.

Soon enough, once the Military recovered their senses, they’d be thinking along the same lines.

But it didn’t matter now. Soon these bureaucrats would taste true apocalypse…

“Ladies and gentlemen, I trust you’ve all reviewed the data provided by the Military.”

“The end is nigh! As someone who has traveled back from the future, my mission is to avert this catastrophe!”

“To better combat the impending doom, I have decided to distribute a portion of these potions…”

Sticking to the script, Yenir casually spun a tale while silently counting down in his heart.

He was playing the part to perfection.

Surveying the meticulously dressed elites below—each exuding an aura of high-ranking authority—his eyes betrayed no emotion.

A horde of infected… this world’s disaster was spawned by their insatiable greed and madness.

As Yenir began his mock lecture, the top brass below could not help but murmur amongst themselves.

Though they had been briefed beforehand, hearing it firsthand left them genuinely startled.

Yet, deep down, they were reluctant to embrace the impending disaster Yenir described.

    “Yenir, I have a question!”

“Is the apocalypse really as terrifying as you claim? Can any creature truly withstand cannon fire? And what about the array of war machines the Military wields?”

“Now that society is on the brink of war, do you realize how much the Federation’s citizens resent us? Aren’t we overreacting? Perhaps the last disaster you mentioned was just a sudden outbreak?”

“With proper preparations, isn’t it really manageable?”

“After all, can our Federation’s technology even handle a swarm of infected?”

A middle-aged high-ranking official in a suit, who had never seen battle footage, couldn’t help but blurt out his doubts.

To be honest, he didn’t believe any of Yenir’s claims—in private, he suspected it was all a Military plot.

    “Zombies? Mutants?”

“How can mere flesh and blood possibly stand against advanced weaponry? Even if they are fast, can they really break the sound barrier?”

    “And besides, Yenir…”

“After all you’ve said, where’s the evidence? And how can we be sure what’s in these potions? What if they carry dangerous side effects?”

Fixing his dead eyes on Yenir, the middle-aged man cleared his throat as if speaking for everyone.

Though his rank wasn’t high, he was nonetheless a public figure.

Having just arrived from another province the previous day, he sensed something major was unfolding within the Military.

Regarding Yenir’s sudden appearance, whether it was the result of rumored superhuman abilities or his apocalyptic warnings, he was convinced it was all fabricated!

    “Oh?”

On stage, Yenir chuckled softly and spoke in a cool tone,

    “You think it’s all fake?”

    “Don’t worry; you’ll find out soon enough…”

    “Hmm?”

The middle-aged man, mid-adjustment of his tie, suddenly froze and glanced at Yenir—there was something off about his words.

Before he could ponder further, a deafening roar suddenly erupted from outside the building.

The lights on the glass facade dimmed simultaneously as an atmosphere of pure malice and terror burst forth.

Outside the United Building, within a rapidly expanding vortex, piercing roars of a monstrous creature filled the sky. In an instant, a massive head—seven or eight meters across with glaring red eyes—emerged from the maelstrom.

On stage, Yenir’s expression remained impassive as he calmly issued a command over the squad’s comms,

    “Open the slaughter!”
