Chapter 27: A Risky Transaction
by xennovel“Transfer… just send it over to Tianfeng Properties!”
A few seconds later, the quickest-reacting receptionist manager snapped back to attention and practically ran up to Yenir, bowing respectfully.
“Dear guest, are you sure you want this suite?”
Swallowing hard, the manager still looked incredulous as she took the ID Card from Yenir and asked softly.
“It’s a mid-tier residence! It may not be top-notch, but they hardly sell more than a few a year.”
In the post-apocalyptic world, combat power is all that truly guarantees safety. Even the richest Awakened hesitate to waste resources on extras.
Equipment, skills, items, even healing potions – nothing comes without a cost.
If it weren’t for the slight upgrade boost offered by the Spiritual Residence, not a single unit would sell.
Usually only the elite of the Safe Zone and top Second-Stage Awakeneds would consider buying one.
“Confirmed.”
Without hesitation, Yenir smiled calmly and signaled for the card to be swiped.
At the last moment, as if remembering something, he added:
“Oh, it may take one minute.”
As he spoke, Yenir recalled that the commander funding his equipment was still scrambling for funds – his card now had barely over ten Credit Points.
Glancing at a private message, he promptly urged them on.
No sooner had his words left his lips than the previously startled crowd’s expressions shifted; many let out a sigh of relief once they regained their senses.
“Wait, one minute?”
With Credit Points on the card, why wait? Clearly, he was looking for an excuse to back out.
They chuckled derisively; those who believed Yenir could truly afford it glared at him in contempt.
Meanwhile, the Middle-Aged Awakened on the sofa quickly regained his composure:
“Kid, if you’re broke, don’t try to act rich.”
“Wait, one minute? You think Credit Points just fall from the sky?”
“Tsk, it’s my first time seeing such a brazen Awakened. So young and clueless that true power is all that matters, yet playing these games.”
“This is utterly laughable.”
Fed up with the pretense, the Second-Stage Awakened then looked toward the young girl:
“Miss Wang, isn’t your classmate possibly a fake Awakened?”
“Heh, these days even a broke kid dares to act posh!”
After his words, Wang Zhen subconsciously glanced at Yenir, as if to defend him.
But it really appeared that, as the middle-aged man had said, Yenir was just putting on a brave face.
She looked at Yenir with a troubled expression and murmured bitterly:
“Yenir, maybe you should just leave. I know you’ll be able to afford it one day, but right now, it’s just too steep.”
Beside her, Ye Xiaoan, unable to endure everyone’s ridicule, timidly looked at Yenir:
“Brother… I don’t want a house… Let’s just stick to our little home, alright?”
“I don’t like it here. I want to go back…”
Yenir glanced around blankly; he didn’t care much about everyone’s opinions, but he didn’t want to cast a shadow over his little sister.
His eyes hardened as he turned to the manager and said gravely:
“If I said one minute, that’s one minute.”
“Hand over the card.”
Struck by Yenir’s resolute tone, the manager paused before quietly nodding.
For some reason, she found herself trusting Yenir—even if it was utterly absurd.
…
Sanjiang Safe Zone.
“Got it together?! Got it together?!”
“Brother! I’ve really set my sights on a piece of gear. I, Old Zhang, have never asked anything from you, and I will get that sword-type equipment no matter what. Hurry up and trade it over!”
“Commander Wang! Lend me 10,000 Credit Points to tide me over. Once I have the gear, I’m sure I can kill that mutant, and I’ll repay you for sure!”
“Huang Kun! You damn owe me Credit Points—return them right now!”
Inside the assembly, Zhang Fanxiu frantically sent private messages to every Awakened he knew, all to scrape together the Credit Points Yenir needed.
With a dejected expression, staring at the paltry Credit Points he’d managed to gather, he resorted to privately messaging Yenir:
“Sir, your time requirement is too hasty. I can only gather under 50,000 points; for your gear and skills, we’ve only managed around 4,000 points.”
“For the rest, can you give me an extra two hours? I promise to send them over immediately!”
After sending the message, the formidable Awakened—at the peak of Second-Stage power—waited for Yenir’s response like a prayer.
God, have mercy—he’d risked everything, garnering only just over 50,000 Credit Points. Now, he only prayed that this mysterious guy wouldn’t sell the gear to anyone else.
Two seconds later, amid his anxious anticipation, Yenir sent back a terse message.
“Okay.”
Overjoyed, Zhang Fanxiu’s face broke into a wild grin as he swiftly executed the trade, transferring all the gathered assets and Credit Points in one go.
“What a stand-up guy! Truly a good person!!”
…
Time was short yet felt unbearably long.
One minute later, as the payment manager hesitated to speak up, the normally silent Yenir suddenly spoke:
“Swipe the card.”
“Huh!?”
In the hall, those who had been watching the scene turned their heads in astonishment, all eyes on Yenir.
Meanwhile, the Middle-Aged Awakened on the sofa wore an expression of sheer impatience.
“Kid, you think this game of yours is amusing?”
“Don’t you realize, to us, you’re just a pathetic clown.”
After that, he waved dismissively to Wang Zhen:
“Miss Wang, why are you still lingering? He can’t afford it, but I certainly can!”
“And besides, I’m not one to overcompensate and embarrass myself like some.”
After he finished speaking, many of the Awakened nodded in agreement, clearly fed up with Yenir’s performance.
However, the manager, still maintaining decorum, glanced at Yenir and, albeit hesitantly, decided to try swiping the card.
The next instant, a crisp beep rang out.
“Payment completed. Credit Points deducted.”
As if she’d seen a ghost, the manager gazed in horror at the card in her hand, then at the balance, her hand trembling in shock.
Remaining balance on the card:
The Credit Points, in astronomical numbers, were magnified in her eyes—a figure she had only ever seen with Commander Tianfeng.
Meanwhile, everyone in the hall—both Awakened and receptionists—stared at Yenir in shock. In that moment, his slender form exuded an inexplicable aura of mystery.
Truly…
“It really does!”
Who is this boy, really? Could he be the offspring of a major figure in the Safe Zone? And what about that little girl?!
On the sofa, the Middle-Aged Second-Stage Awakened sat, mouth agape, feeling as if a resounding slap had struck him.
Swallowing hard, he felt an abrupt impulse to run off.
“Damn! His entire net worth was less than 3000 points!”
Beside Yenir, the girl gazed blankly at his profile, a sudden dizzy spell making her unsteady on her feet.
“The Credit Points were spent just like that?! And it was her achievement?!”
Moments later, in stunned silence, the manager who had just swiped the card hurried over, respectfully returning it to Yenir.
“Esteemed guest, we’ll take care of your paperwork immediately. Should you need anything else, Tianfeng Properties will be at your service.”
With that, she swiftly produced her business card, her eyes bright with a touch of supplication:
“This is my contact information. You may contact me directly.”
“If you have time, you might join us at our afternoon social; all the participants are Tianfeng property owners…”
“No, thanks—I’m in a rush.”
After taking the card, Yenir immediately led Ye Xiaoan to the door.
At the doorway, Yenir turned back and offered Wang Zhen a gentle smile:
“Let’s grab a meal sometime—it’s been ages.”
With that, he turned and left.
In the hall, the receptionists shot a wistful glance at the dazed girl, their eyes brimming with envy.
…..
On the pristine streets of the Inner City, Yenir frowned as he checked his card balance.
After the system’s 10% fee, he had just over 30,000 Credit Points remaining.
If not for trading convenience, he’d never use the system feature.
Cursing under his breath at the damn system, Yenir then shifted his attention to the system backpack holding his tradable items.
Inside the blinking system backpack,
a long sword, a pair of boots, and a sword-type skill book were slowly spinning.
