Chapter 307: Crisis at the Command Meeting
by xennovelThe room was brilliantly lit.
Inside the vast meeting hall, an eerie silence mixed with a strange tension filled the air.
Rapid footsteps echoed continuously outside the hall.
As high-ranking military officials, their faces grave, filed in one after another, the heavy red doors swung shut with a thud.
Outside, hundreds of fully armed elite Awakeners stood like statues, silently guarding the entrance.
It was already late at night.
Around the square table, every senior official wore a look of intense gravity, while the rustling of numerous documents betrayed emotions deeper than what the expressions revealed.
This meeting, originally convened to propose troop expansion, was one of the most critical gatherings Huaguo had held in the past decade. Only top-level officials were allowed to attend.
Yet at this moment, nobody questioned why the meeting should be halted or why other matters weren’t being discussed.
“Is everyone here?”
At the dais, Li Xuanguo quietly asked the Secretary General behind him, his gaze sweeping the room.
Unmistakable unease flickered in his eyes—a rare sight indeed.
“Prime Minister, everyone is present, but many haven’t received the documents yet…”
Faced with Li Xuanguo’s third repeated query, the Secretary General hurriedly responded.
While urgently signaling the staff to distribute the documents, he sifted through the images on his desk. He could tell that the minds of the Prime Minister and the other senior officials were in disarray.
“Enough! Let’s start the meeting immediately! We don’t have time to wait any longer!”
He raised his hand to silence further objections.
Li Xuanguo’s eyes darkened as he prepared, without hesitation, to commence the meeting.
The matter was far too critical and the situation so urgent that there was no time for lengthy deliberation.
Before the Secretary General could utter another word, one of Huaguo’s top decision-makers, Li Xuanguo, lowered the microphone in front of him and spoke in a deep, commanding tone:
“This is serious! Perhaps many of you still don’t know what has happened, but there’s no time for further explanations!”
“The documents are on the table—you can review them as you listen!”
“Now, Hu Zhiping, please have the Prime Minister and the three military representatives begin speaking!”
“We must produce a plan within fifteen minutes!”
As his words fell, even the highest-ranking officials could not help but erupt into murmurs, their unease palpable amid Li Xuanguo’s stern tone.
Ignoring the crowd’s apprehension, Hu Zhiping, a Political Department Member, sighed inwardly and wasted no time as he spoke:
“Ladies and gentlemen, about six minutes ago, the Capital Military District’s Temporary Action Command Center reported an emergency. Forty-three minutes ago, the East Sea Battle Zone detonated two nuclear missiles and detected an assault by sea beasts!”
“Our current challenge is to handle this catastrophe!”
The barrage of details and the sheer weight of the information were overwhelming.
Almost immediately after Hu Zhiping finished speaking, many of the hastily assembled senior officials were struck dumb with shock.
Their eyes widened in disbelief and terror.
“What do you mean by sea beasts? Didn’t Yenir mention something like that before?”
“How could such a disaster happen so suddenly?!”
“They fired nuclear missiles? Did the Military detect the sea beasts in advance?”
“Why was there zero notice?! What on earth is going on?! Was the Action Team really handling this?”
Shock and dismay spread throughout the room.
Although word of Yenir’s actions was known to many high-level officials, it was confined only to certain military circles. After all, less than half a day had passed since Yenir’s move.
“Family scandals are never made public.” The Military had planned to detain Yenir before disclosing the incident, leaving many top officials in the dark.
Thus, when two heavy-hitting revelations came in quick succession, many found themselves in a surreal state, struggling to process the shock.
A few insiders, already aware of some details, wore complex expressions, bitterness evident in their eyes.
Realizing that the news was too staggering to sugarcoat, the three military representatives decided to reveal everything:
“Silence!”
“I know it’s hard to digest what’s coming next, but we don’t have time for elaborate explanations. In just one minute, I’ll give you a brief rundown of the situation. Once you hear it, please decide on a course of action immediately!”
“At the representatives’ meeting fourteen days ago, Yenir first warned that an A-level sea beast disaster might erupt in the East Sea.”
“To verify the information, the Military dispatched three representatives to assist Fang Teng in the investigation.”
“During the investigation, no anomalies were detected, so the evacuation proposal was rejected.”
“But just this morning, after returning from the East Sea, Yenir requested a reexamination on the sea beasts. We don’t know if he uncovered definitive evidence, and that uncertainty led him to seize control of the East Sea Safe Zone by force!”
“In the process, Yenir is suspected of detaining three representatives along with Fang Teng, storming the Research Institute, and falsely issuing military orders to mobilize troops from other zones to initiate an evacuation!”
“Moreover, two tactical nuclear missiles were launched without authorization from the Military!”
His voice boomed like a bell.
Under the emotionless recitation of the Military representatives, many senior officials—who had been in the dark—found themselves frozen in place.
Each revelation was more shocking than the last; if not for the Prime Minister’s presence, they might have dismissed it as a farce.
Although the Military representatives maintained complete neutrality in their tone and presentation of the facts, the underlying implications were unmistakable.
“It was Yenir?!”
“Detaining senior officials, falsifying orders, and unilaterally mobilizing forces?! How dare he?!”
“So he uncovered the disaster?”
“Then what did the Military do afterward? What are we supposed to manage now?!”
Exclamations of astonishment rang out one after the other, and the quicker-witted among the senior officials began to piece together why the Military had called this urgent meeting.
Normally, upon a disaster, you’d deploy reinforcements and mobilize top-tier Awakeners immediately.
Post-disaster reconstruction and accountability were not the concern of this very moment.
The Military’s sudden convocation suggested that this crisis was truly unprecedented and intricately complicated!
It seemed that even the top brass had no idea how to handle Yenir!
Sure enough, after giving everyone a few more seconds to process the news, Hu Zhiping’s eyes flashed with weariness as he spoke once more:
“Ladies and gentlemen…”
“Currently, six major battle zones are assembling high-ranking Awakeners to provide support, and twenty-seven Safe Zones along the coast are on standby to host survivors.”
“The previous Action Team was actually established to capture Yenir.”
“Now, our issues are twofold: first, how do we handle this disaster;”
“and second…”
“how do we classify this incident?!”
