Chapter Index

    “Swish-”

    Swish-

The sound of slicing through the air roared.

Above the East Sea Safe Zone in the dead of night, thirteen Third-Stage Awakeneds streaked across the sky, their supersonic roars cleaving the darkness.

Leading the assault was Liang Lie, with the entire team cutting through the night like a black longsword.

“Yenir, are we trying to lure them out?”

Straining to keep up behind Yenir, Xiao Hai powered through the flight, his mind buzzing in disbelief.

    Such incredible speed.

Though he was on par with Yenir, the pull from Liang Lie’s wind-slicing maneuver made it hard for him to keep pace, while Yenir appeared effortlessly calm—a clear sign of superior strength.

With a subtle nod, Yenir silently combed his memory for the locations of several major air raid shelters around the East Sea.

According to Military reports, the fleeing masses had been herded into various civil defense facilities.

Their plan was to stop Yenir from going berserk and triggering a nuclear explosion over the East Sea.

Yenir himself was unsure how to evaluate such a reckless act.

In many ways, the Military’s response was both swift and meticulous—bordering on commendable.

To safeguard the survivors, the Military had even prepared for the possibility of Yenir, driven to desperation, taking them hostage.

And to prevent him from faking orders again, four Third-Stage Advanced members had ordered the remaining forces to shut down communications or even delay any further action for 24 hours.

It was a textbook ‘rescue’ operation—the Military had considered every eventuality, except that a real disaster might unfold.

“Remember these coordinates: First, head for the largest shelter.”

“After evacuating the first batch of survivors, split up!”

“Evacuate the East Sea at top speed! We’ll regroup at Point A, forty kilometers away!”

“If anyone hesitates, take action immediately!”

    His tone was icy.

Yenir rapidly relayed several coordinates to the group, his eyes constantly scanning their surroundings.

Among the millions of survivors, many had been ‘missed’ by the civil defense facilities; predictably, numerous people were holed up at home or in high-rise buildings.

These scattered individuals would undoubtedly be the toughest to evacuate.

Especially since the Military brass had repeatedly warned them about the dangers outside—urging them to stay put…

Staring at the coordinates on his device, Xiao Hai’s face darkened.

He had been apprehended by the Military immediately, and only then did he learn that the survivors were hidden in countless locations.

    “Damn it! You idiots!”

“Rescuing lives beats creating chaos any day!”

“Seven shelters, twelve civil defense sites—this level of inefficiency is outrageous. I’m fed up!”

“They even cut off all communications! What are they so scared of? Afraid we’ll blow them to bits?!”

Anger surged within him; having evacuated survivors from the East Sea only to be sent back by the Military, Xiao Hai erupted in furious curses.

After following Yenir for a daring rescue, he’d hoped to avert disaster, only to end up with a band of useless teammates—enough to drive anyone mad.

Especially after being roughed up himself and nearly losing his life!

Listening to Xiao Hai’s tirade, the few Military Awakeneds trailing behind managed a wry smile, though they were also being lambasted and dared not retort.

They were among those who had previously tried convincing survivors to return.

Reflecting on their past actions, a deep sense of shame welled up within them.

If regret could mend things, they’d gladly slap themselves twice.

No one could have imagined that Yenir would be right.

The investigation committees had found no issues, and theoretically, the Sea Beast shouldn’t have launched such a bizarre attack. Coupled with the Military’s confident judgment—that perhaps Yenir had lost his mind—they had no reason to trust him.

    “No more talking.”

“Save your energy—we might be in for another fight soon.”

    Keeping his composure.

After locking onto the largest shelter, Yenir dove straight downward.

Having dealt with the Military before, he knew exactly how inflexible their operations could be.

    “Boom!!”

    He unleashed a sword slash.

Switching his Elemental Blade to fire mode, it instantly morphed into a blazing Fire Dragon in the darkness, exploding as it charged toward the sealed alloy door.

    “Boom!!”

A barrage of fire elements pounded the green civil defense door, the searing heat distorting the surrounding air.

Yet even after a full-force strike, the door—built to withstand high-altitude nuclear blasts—only suffered a bit of peeling paint and slight deformation.

Designed to defend against mutants and nuclear explosions, its armor was a staggering 1800 millimeters thick, and its concrete structure stood 7 meters tall—about six times the pre-apocalypse standard!

It was precisely for this reason that the Military was unwilling to abandon the East Sea!

    “Attack together!”

    “Force them out first!”

“Uncle Liang, can you take out the ventilation ducts?”

Yenir’s mental focus plunged deep underground as he probed the situation inside the shelter.

Almost instantly, he detected numerous life signs gathering below! Moreover, several Third-Stage members and some Military personnel were still stationed there.

    Without hesitation.

At Yenir’s command, everyone took a deep breath and unleashed their most powerful attacks, battering the door relentlessly.

Yet even as they pounded on it, a complex mix of emotions churned within each of them.

No one had expected they’d be forced into such drastic measures.

    “Boom, boom! Boom! Boom!”

Spirit Energy erupted as a dazzling array of skills crashed down, melting and shattering the sturdy alloy door.

Meanwhile, Yenir quickly noticed several surveillance cameras hidden within the concrete around the door, all watching their every move.

Clearly, someone on the inside was aware of their arrival.

    “Come out!”

    “This is Yenir!”

“The Sea Beast has erupted! Everyone, fall back with me from the East Sea!”

Bellowing, Yenir yanked a Military Third-Stage—once a comrade from his unit—and slammed his face against a camera.

“Make sure you see who he is!”

Realizing he needed to persuade those inside to come out, the grabbed Military Third-Stage pleaded urgently:

    “Quick, open the door!”

“We were wrong! The Sea Beast has truly erupted! The Military has already ordered our evacuation! Everyone, come out now!!”

Seeing no reaction on the camera sent a chill down the Military Third-Stage’s spine, his desperation nearly driving him mad.

Damn it—are those inside even listening?!

    Meanwhile…

In the dim underground civil defense facility, a Military Squad Captain in uniform watched the camera feed with a grave and panicked expression.

Behind her, several Military Awakeneds assigned to protect the survivors anxiously questioned her.

    “Captain!”

    “Should we open the door?”

“I saw Lao Luo and the others. Could it be true? Why hasn’t Yenir been caught yet?!”

Clutching the control panel tightly, the Squad Captain gulped in alarm as she responded.

Recalling earlier orders, she drew a deep breath and spoke firmly:

    “Ignore them!”

“They might have been captured by Yenir!”

“He’s tricking us into opening the door—we must secure the safety of the East Sea survivors!”
