Chapter 336: The East Sea Catastrophe
by xennovelOn the dais, Li Xuanguo’s face darkened as he and several high-ranking officials fell silent.
The officials were furious indeed; the destruction of the East Sea was no different from being overwhelmed by a Sea Beast.
Especially when it was one of their own who did it.
“Representative Yuan, we understand your feelings,” one voice said.
“We are equally heartbroken over the loss of the East Sea.”
As if trying to shield the higher-ups, a military representative awkwardly stood and forced himself to speak:
“Yenir’s actions were indeed… excessive.”
“But we don’t have the full picture yet. Perhaps he had special reasons.”
“Is it really appropriate to pin charges on him right now?”
“Of course, we will explain everything to the people of the East Sea…”
Before he could continue, a mid-level official from the Dongqing Safe Zone based in Beijing roared:
“Reasons!?”
“Colonel Xiao, I know the Military holds Yenir in high regard, but do you really want to defend him now?”
“Fine! I appreciate that Yenir evacuated survivors during the Sea Beast’s attack, but what right does he have to blow up the East Sea?”
“I heard that he detonated it immediately after the Military raised objections!”
“What does that even mean? What kind of behavior is that!”
“It clearly shows that Yenir, feeling his pride hurt and resenting the Military’s interference, chose to destroy the East Sea!”
“Does he think that by saving the East Sea, he now owns it?!”
“Our Huaxia Battle Zone’s Third-Stage mid-level nodes—how many remain? To see them wiped out is an unfathomable loss!”
Faced with the barrage from Beijing’s representatives, Colonel Xiao’s expression soured and he sat back down in embarrassment.
Indeed.
Frankly, they weren’t even given a chance to defend Yenir.
Even if Yenir feared pursuit by the Sea Beast, there was no reason to demolish the East Sea. The troops were already en route with reinforcements; no one could fathom why he would do such a thing.
Considering that Yenir, in a fit of temper, didn’t even deploy the Fire Network, only one possibility remains.
Yenir is taking revenge on the Military. He believes that after saving the East Sea, its fate now lies in his hands.
Seated on the committee, Lu Tianming watched with satisfaction as several representatives continued their barrage.
Excellent. Pinning down Yenir once and for all—in the name of the East Sea’s people, the Authorities wouldn’t dare shield him. He’s already made it clear to these representatives.
The East Sea is ruined. If he hopes to endure, he must find a new master to serve.
It seems these men are really giving it their all.
But his methods extend far beyond that.
Almost as Lu Tianming feigned a cough, a representative from the Neiwang Safe Zone near the East Sea suddenly stood up, trembling all over:
“Ladies and gentlemen, I am a representative from the Neiwang Safe Zone! You may not know that after dispatching aid to the East Sea, three mid-level officials and four resolute members stayed behind—risking everything to rescue survivors trapped there!”
“They were wholly devoted to the people, determined to save as many lives as possible. But who could have expected that Yenir would go mad and detonate the East Sea—killing several heroes from our Safe Zone! As far as I know, at least forty ‘soldiers’ died in the explosion!”
“What kind of act is this! This is nothing short of massacring our own! Yenir is nothing but a butcher! I even suspect that during his disappearance, he went to the East Sea to steal supplies, and when our high-ups found out, he opted to silence them!”
“Otherwise, what reason would he have to destroy evidence?”
As his words faded, a stunned silence fell over the room.
No one had expected this representative to attack from such a cunning angle.
He even dared to accuse Yenir of stealing supplies…
But before they could dismiss his claims as outdated, the representative produced a document:
“You must not think it’s impossible!”
“I have the records right here!”
“During the evacuation of survivors from the East Sea, Yenir clearly ordered the Military to send personnel to help him retrieve supplies!”
“Smack!”
The document landed with a thud, displaying several photos of Sun Li Cheng clutching an iron box—the very scene where Yenir directed the Military to help Sun Li Cheng recover his research equipment.
In an instant, the hall erupted in shock.
No one could have imagined that the truth would take such an unbelievable twist.
Meanwhile, Wanrou, who had been crying uncontrollably, shakily stood to deliver a crushing blow:
“Prime Minister! Honorable Committee Members! Distinguished Representatives!”
“You may not know why Yenir injured me or why he deliberately targeted my husband, Fang Teng!”
“At the Research Institute, Yenir accidentally saw my project and believed it would boost his power. All I asked was for him to register the information, and he flew into a rage, feeling disrespected!”
“Then he attacked me and even demanded that I surrender our research findings!”
“Sob… sob…”
Wanrou’s sobs pierced the air, raw and anguished.
“I… I was forced to admit that the project was Military classified; it was something my husband and I had been researching in the East Sea.”
“Some high-ranking officials can corroborate this! The East Sea houses the research base for that project!”
“I suspect that Yenir used this as a pretext to search the East Sea—not to stop the Sea Beast, but perhaps even to lure it in!”
“He caused the disaster just to secure those research findings!”
As his words faded, a Researcher, brought in by Lu Tianming from the audience, trembled while standing:
“Ladies and gentlemen, you can check the East Sea records yourself!”
“Yenir really went to that Research Institute—right before the Sea Beast broke out!”
“I suspect that Committee Member Fang Teng was subdued because he discovered Yenir’s plan to steal documents. To cover his tracks, Yenir triggered the beast tide and destroyed the East Sea!”
With three consecutive pieces of evidence, everyone in the hall suddenly grasped a horrifying truth.
The course of events had taken an utterly unbelievable turn.
Meanwhile, Wang Chu slowly stood up, a flash of severity in his eyes.
“Esteemed Committee Members! I am the Director of Materials! I’m sure you all know me!”
“I have evidence! At Yenir’s residence, I found Sea Beast blood and a tube of an unidentified compound taken from the Military storeroom!”
“I suspect that Yenir’s innate talent is connected to the Sea Beast—there could be unspeakable conspiracies hidden within him!”
“There was no disaster, no Sea Beast invasion, no subsequent danger!”
“Everything Yenir has done is merely to build his own reputation—to cover his tracks!”
“He destroyed the East Sea to hide the fact that he secretly stole some of its unique resources!!”
At his words, every face in the room turned pale.
Although these three accusations were logically flawed, they carried a hint of possibility.
At that moment, the expressions of the high-ranking officials on the dais abruptly changed.
They seemed to recall something unsavory that this man had done.
