Chapter Index

    “Now we’re calling a meeting?”

“But wasn’t it said that things over at the East Sea weren’t over yet?”

“What’s going on? Did you all hear that sound yesterday…?”

They filed in one after another.

After three meetings in two days, a large number of high-ranking officials from various factions entered the hall with heavy hearts.

No one had expected that ever since Yenir became a committee member just over ten days ago, the Capital had been hit by continuous crises, leaving the entire city in turmoil.

Especially since every incident was tied to Yenir – and each one was a major event.

“The Military is reassessing the situation at the East Sea, and I’ve even heard that the top brass have practically given up on it…”

Inside the hall, the weary officials whispered among themselves, their eyes habitually drifting toward Yenir and…

Lu Tianming, whose expression was grim.

    “Silence!”

“Let the meeting begin. Today’s agenda covers the East Sea Class-A Beast Tide and the reassessment of Yenir’s case.”

On the dais, several top leaders, who had endured a day and a night without rest, glanced at Yenir. To be honest, they’d never felt this headache over an issue until now.

Especially since they already knew so many troubling details…

Even at their level, their hearts skipped a beat after hearing their subordinates’ reports.

Only after numerous private discussions did they finally decide how to handle Yenir’s case.

As his words fell, the assembly of committee members and high-ranking officials tensed up at Hu Zhiping’s direct mention of a reassessment, many feeling a chill down their spines.

So blunt—by the sound of it, the Military was about to reclassify the situation.

Honestly, the rapid reversals in just under two days were nothing short of a slap in the face.

    Yet it made sense.

With disasters over the East Sea so severe, no one could claim that Yenir’s earlier actions were entirely wrong.

“First, let me present the situation in the East Sea Battle Zone.”

Surveying the room, Hu Zhiping’s expression turned grave as he began slowly:

“Four and a half hours ago, the second wave of Sea Beasts landed on the East Sea and broke through our defenses. Our troops have since temporarily withdrawn.”

“Judging by the current situation, we will likely have to abandon the East Sea to avoid further unnecessary losses.”

    No extraneous words were wasted.

While explaining the situation at the East Sea, a flash of strange resignation crossed Hu Zhiping’s eyes, as he inwardly sighed.

No one had expected that every detail about the East Sea would align so perfectly with Yenir’s warnings.

According to Fang Hao’s report, unless two commanders and massive reinforcements are deployed, the Sea Beasts over there cannot be eradicated. Even more shocking, several reconnaissance teams, risking their lives, discovered a terrifying fact.

The reason the Beast Tide at the East Sea evaded satellite detection was that a deep-sea tunnel, sprawling underground in the Coastal Region, had already been excavated by the Sea Beasts. Additionally, nearly all of the two waves of Sea Beasts emerged from this tunnel.

One end leads toward the coast, while the other remains a mystery.

After multiple rounds of analysis with a large gathering of staff officers, the Military reluctantly concluded that there was no point in reclaiming the East Sea.

With the East Sea Safe Zone bombed and the Spirit Energy Node destroyed, even rebuilding would be nearly impossible.

Even if reconstruction were possible, that underwater channel would make it nearly impossible to fend off subsequent Sea Beasts. Not to mention, with our forces already stretched thin, mobilizing the bulk of our troops and two commanders merely to recover a wasteland was essentially pointless.

Taking everything into account, the Military decided to cut their losses rather than waste more lives.

In a way, they should be grateful to Yenir for preemptively destroying the city and saving countless survivors. Yet, oddly enough, it seemed Yenir had made the choice for them, leaving them no room to maneuver.

Thus, once they deemed the East Sea issue settled, the Military reclassified the disaster to simplify the official announcement.

As his words ended, some of the non-military committee members looked on in shock.

The situation in the East Sea was far worse than they had ever imagined. However, it appeared that the Military would no longer hold Yenir accountable.

Sure enough, after giving everyone a moment to absorb the information, Hu Zhiping spoke again on behalf of the Military:

“Considering the East Sea crisis seriously threatens public safety, Yenir’s decision to bomb the East Sea does seem necessary now.”

“Furthermore, before the first wave of Sea Beasts landed, when Yenir ordered the evacuation of civilians, his actions did not violate the state’s highest security protocols — which prioritize protecting the people.”

“Therefore, after discussions between the Political Department and the Military, it has been decided to drop any charges against Yenir for policy violations and even grant him a measure of reward.”

“In our subsequent public communications, we will reveal the true details to allay public fears and restore confidence.”

    That was the final word.

After speaking, Hu Zhiping gave Yenir a lingering, meaningful glance.

To be frank, this was the final proposal reached after extensive high-level debate – the most favorable outcome for Yenir. In essence, the Military had already made significant concessions.

Upon hearing the verdict, the room erupted in murmurs, many officials visibly shaken. They had hoped the Military might show leniency toward Yenir.

But to their surprise, the Military chose to let bygones be bygones.

In fact, they conveniently ignored many events, pretending nothing had happened.

In that instant, shock flashed in the eyes of several committee members.

If Yenir could stir up such chaos and still walk away unscathed, who would dare mess with him next!?

Amidst the heated discussions, on the dais Li Xuanguo sighed and slowly spoke:

“Committee Member Yenir, is there anything you wish to say?”

“After this meeting, your status will be fully reinstated, and we will grant you the corresponding rewards. Of course, we also expect that you will inform the Military before taking any future actions.”

Listening to the Prime Minister’s almost cordially persuasive tone toward Yenir, the assembled committee members looked at him with envy.

For them, getting the Military to admit their mistakes was something they never dared to dream of.

However, to everyone’s astonishment, upon hearing the Military’s proposed resolution, Yenir simply nodded, stood up, and directly asked:

“Prime Minister, what about Ming Luo and Chen Kailai?”

“I want to know how the Military intends to classify their actions.”

Li Xuanguo on the dais paused for a moment before, in the next instant, a general on the opposite side suddenly darkened his face and glared coldly at Yenir:

“Yenir, are you still not satisfied?!”

    “Mind your own business!”

“Ming Luo and the people you arranged violated regulations and were involved in the assassination of the high-ranking official at the East Sea Safe Zone.”

“They will naturally face the appropriate punishment!”

His gaze carried a clear warning.

His words seemed to caution Yenir – they knew what he had done. Not bringing it up now was to save his face, but they couldn’t possibly ignore it completely! Yenir, you had better play dumb and behave!

At that moment, Lu Tianming, who had assumed his former commander would not show up after his call last night, suddenly brightened. Without hesitation, he stood up and declared sternly:

    “I refuse to accept this!”

    “Committee Members, Prime Minister!”

“You may not know, but to my knowledge, Yenir went on a rampage last night; he ruthlessly killed Director Wang Hong and even attempted to assassinate Commander Fang Teng in the East Sea Battle Zone! Not only that, but he also began arresting any government officials who dared oppose him!”

“With such atrocities, how can the Military let him off lightly!”

“Just because he achieved a small victory, does that mean he can trample on national law?! Such a brazen, heartless man – I insist that the Military must punish him severely to set things right!”

Without mercy, Lu Tianming glared at Yenir, forcefully exposing the truth the Military had tried to bury.

Sure enough, if no one brought up these matters, Yenir might have easily slipped away. But he wouldn’t allow this to stand!

Who does he think he is, trying to save his own people? Not a chance!

Yet contrary to expectations, rather than showing shock or fear at Lu Tianming’s outburst, Yenir simply turned around abruptly and, with a light smirk, said:

“You idiot, I’ve been waiting for you to show up for far too long!!”

“Did you really think I’d let you off that easily?!”
