Chapter 388: A Night of Turmoil
by xennovelAt the corridor’s end, Tang Hai—his expression furtive and conflicted like a burglar—crouched warily outside the door, straining to catch any sound.
Even though his behavior was unbecoming for a Third-Stage expert, he couldn’t help himself; just the thought of Yenir’s delightful night had him jittery as a distressed cat.
But that was none other than Miss Blood Nightingale… He could hardly believe she had set her sights on Yenir.
How could that be?
Clinging to a final shred of hope, he mused that perhaps Miss Blood Nightingale had only gone in for a drink, having mistaken Yenir for a high-ranking affiliate of some powerful faction, and would soon reappear for a chat.
Surely, he had inflated that guy’s status too much, making her take him far too seriously…
Regret washed over him as he recalled his pre-Awakener days—hiding behind a large tree, watching the campus beauty reject a second-generation Awakener, lost in endless fantasy.
Of course, thirty years ago he had wept like a lovesick fool as he watched the pair stroll hand in hand; that memory would forever sting him, not even reaching Third-Stage could make up for it.
Just as he hesitated to move closer, a feeble female voice drifted into his ear like rolling thunder.
Such an intense cry!?
That voice!?
In an instant, Tang Hai’s face turned ashen, and everything went black.
“Aaaaahhhh!!!”
She had barely entered and was already screaming out!? Could it get any faster!?
Overwhelmed with sorrow and disbelief, he wished the cry was his own!
No!!! How could she be so cruel to him!!
With a startled cry, the normally stoic Third-Stage expert nearly broke down into tears. Damn, he had never been so shaken in his life!
Meanwhile, Liang Lie—who had been keeping close tabs on Blood Nightingale—fell silent in thought.
He was in the room next to Yenir’s. Although he couldn’t see what was happening inside, his skill assured him that he could act before Yenir came to harm.
Yet, as the inexplicable, unmuted cries blasted through, his usually impassive face grew strangely troubled.
He detected no sign of spirit energy manipulation, which meant no fight had broken out.
These were not agonized screams born of combat.
Then why were the cries so pitiful, laced with humiliation and despair?
Shaking his head, Liang Lie pushed aside his useless emotions, settling into a meditative calm while he awaited Yenir’s command.
But, for some reason, a thought popped into his mind.
“Kids these days sure know how to play…”
…………………..
“Ahem, Miss Blood Nightingale, why are you screaming so loudly?”
“Are you that shy? I don’t think you should be acting like this…”
Blinking, Yenir sat cross-legged on the bed, her clear eyes fixed on Blood Nightingale, her tone tinged with doubt and reproach.
She had no choice; pretending nothing was wrong would have been too forced.
She never expected that the once formidable Blood Wolf Leader—who had once sent shivers down her spine—would now lose control of his emotions so blatantly.
Well, it wasn’t as if she hadn’t seen it before.
Gaping, Blood Nightingale instinctively covered herself, her heart pounding as she realized she’d overstepped. After repeated breakdowns and encountering that bastard, she found it nearly impossible to stay as composed as she once was in the Farming Team. Before Yenir, her resolve seemed all too fragile!
Her whole body trembled—not only from the shock of cold water but from the strain of forcing her emotions under control.
Realizing that haphazardly covering herself had unhinged her logic, Blood Nightingale lifted her head and forced out a wretched smile, as if ready to give up.
“Sister, you’re too tense…”
“It’s my first time… I’ve never done this before…”
Not caring how awkward her explanation sounded, she hurriedly wiped herself dry and left without even donning a bathrobe.
Taking a deep breath, she prayed for that ominous aura to vanish quickly before Yenir could suspect anything and act!
Otherwise, she really wouldn’t be able to keep up the act!
Given the opportunity, she was even willing to sacrifice more to baffle that bastard!
She was clear in her mind: once the aura disappeared, she could kill Yenir in mere moments. She was certain that once things began, he would no longer keep his focus here. Killing Yenir would give her ample time to escape. After all, she was a Third-Stage Agility expert! Even if he was Yenir’s Protector, she’d have both the time and the excuse to find refuge with another Third-Stage ally!
She had already concocted the excuse—claiming that Yenir had humiliated her! Surely those adoring sycophants would rally to her defense.
And she had noticed that something was off about Yenir’s identity.
Secretly, he had been drifting from introspection to the Far Frontier. Clearly, he dared not reveal his true self. Even if that Third-Stage Advanced came after her for revenge, he probably wouldn’t act so overtly—in fact, he might even give up!
But at that very moment, Blood Nightingale never expected that Yenir harbored the same plan as she did.
“We can’t delay any longer; this act is unsustainable.”
“I’ll make my move soon—first, subdue that wretched woman…”
In that moment, Yenir decided to contact Liang Lie directly, ordering him to feign departure while maintaining a lock on the situation, creating the illusion that he had already left.
Seconds later, as Yenir calmly activated his mental shield and Mind Storm, the Blood Wolf Leader emerged from the bathing room. Determination and madness flashed in his eyes as he leaped into Yenir’s arms, his pale arm wrapping around his neck.
“Mm… Kiss me…”
His moist, soft lips met the face behind the mask. The fervent Blood Nightingale, resolved to dive right into the affair, no longer cared what she was doing.
She refused to believe that once they began, Yenir would have a moment to think of anything else—the aura would never dare to lock onto her again!
Fiery, scorching, and damp.
Feeling that tongue as if it wanted to crawl into him, Yenir maintained a wary gaze despite Blood Nightingale’s feigned passion.
That wretched woman truly risked everything in her attempt to kill him.
He could sense that the Blood Wolf Leader was beginning to show his familiar wild intensity.
Sure enough, a trembling voice whispered in his ear.
“I’m done… I can’t take it anymore…”
“Sister wants to devour you…”
Hearing those fervent words, even though Yenir knew all too well what she intended, his heart skipped a beat.
To be honest, it was undeniably tempting.
But… devour me?
Perhaps she truly meant to consume him…
Suppressing all unnecessary emotion, Yenir’s gaze hardened as every muscle tensed.
He knew the battle was about to begin.
