Chapter Index

    “Swish – Boom”

The fighter jets slicing through dark clouds streaked like arrows; after a violent shudder, they began a slow descent.

Almost without a reminder, Yenir knew they had reached the First Safe Zone of the Bloodshadow Legion.

Unlike other safe zones, the Bloodshadow Legion’s zones – beyond their collective title – carry a military air, named as First Core Safe Zone, Second Fortress Safe Zone, Third Central Army Safe Zone, and so on.

Surveying the entire Far Frontier, the safe zones under the Bloodshadow Legion formed an interconnected web that firmly controlled the region’s most vital areas.

The remaining safe zones and military construction corps acted merely as a protective shell.

They bypass key inland entry points and border areas. It might seem like they sacrificed critical nodes, but in reality, they conserved their strength.

In other words, the Bloodshadow Legion generously offloaded the most dangerous and grueling tasks to others.

Through a narrow glimpse, Yenir sensed that a layout begun over twenty years ago hinted at a strategic intention behind the Bloodshadow Legion.

“Stockpile supplies… bide our time to rule?”

With a quiet chuckle, Yenir turned, his expression grave as he gazed out the suspended window.

As the fighter jets descended, the bustling, prosperous safe zone below came clearly into view.

Even as darkness neared and night fell, amidst vast clusters of lights and snake-like transport convoys, Yenir immediately focused on the safe zone’s core – those red, fortress-like buildings.

Unlike the other safe zones with their lax, flagging defenses, the Bloodshadow Legion was in a class of its own.

As the fighter jets dropped in altitude, four searchlights resembling anti-aircraft guns zeroed in on them. Moreover, two Third-Stage Awakened figures in black uniforms ascended from the base outside the city, moving in from all sides.

Even if he arrived under the banner of the Canglang Safe Zone for trade, inspection was unavoidable.

“Young Yenir, Tang Hai has arranged everything. You needn’t say a word; we’ll handle it.”

“You’re the nephew of Tang Hai, and you’re here to trade ore for food…”

A flicker of nervousness crossed his eyes.

Two of Tang Hai’s trusted aides poked their heads out of the cockpit, carefully reminding Yenir, then turned to the Third-Stage figures already aboard, their faces quickly breaking into smiles.

    “Clang – Bang”

With a heavy thud as the landing gear collapsed, the fighter jet—after flying all day—finally touched down at the Air Force Base outside the city.

“Show your ID! Everyone, exit the jet in order!”

“Any deviation, and we’ll kill without hesitation!”

A cold, icy shout rang out.

Outside the jet, a hundred-strong squad marched in perfect unison, with two Third-Stage figures securing its front and rear.

Even though ground control had received Yenir and his crew’s report—confirming the arrival of Canglang personnel—they offered no special treatment.

At the slightest irregularity, the two Third-Stage figures and the ground troops would obliterate the jet without warning.

Noticing the sudden tension, Yenir raised an eyebrow and nudged the Blood Nightingale on his side.

    “Get up, we’re almost there.”

    “Mmm…”

With a disgruntled groan, the Blood Wolf Leader—slumped on his lap as if his brain had been knocked out—blinked in confusion. Only a second after noticing the troops outside did he realize he had dozed off again.

They had arrived at the Bloodshadow Legion!

Quickly springing to his feet, his face transformed from sleepy to icy as if he were a completely different person.

But as he hastily sat aside, pretending merely to be accompanying the Canglang military, his expression suddenly changed.

“Oh, it hurts… it hurts so bad…”

Her pretty face turned to glare at Yenir, her right hand reaching out in angry protest:

    “Give it back!”

As soon as she finished speaking, Yenir, expressionless, flung her gear aside—along with a tube of blue mental energy potion.

“Drink it to ease the aftereffects.”

“And don’t get lost staring at Yinglong, or your mind will shut down.”

    Ahem.

After a couple of coughs, Yenir, paying no mind to the clattering of the Blood Nightingale’s silver teeth, quickly donned a disguise mask.

Perhaps because he’d used too much mental energy on managing the Blood Nightingale, Yenir got the impression that her brain had gone a bit haywire—she kept nodding off by his side. For someone as vigilant as the Blood Nightingale, this was inconceivable.

Her face turned pale, and the Blood Nightingale snorted coldly. Fighting the urge to rub her aching chest, she downed the potion without a second glance.

“No need to remind me, I know what to do.”

“Well then, don’t go looking for death and get yourself killed!”

After swallowing the mental energy potion Yenir had given her, the Blood Nightingale exhaled a sigh—feeling her headache finally ease.

Yet the painful pressure in her chest left her both embarrassed and angry.

A guy like Yenir, completely insensitive to delicate feelings, was a first for her.

And as for dozing off to the point of being mocked as having a faulty brain? She wasn’t about to explain. The aftereffects of the mental attack did make her sleepy, but her nonchalance was pure capitulation—after all, with Yenir, she had nothing to “worry” about.

Seeing that the Blood Nightingale had returned to her usual self, Yenir nodded slightly and promptly prepared to disembark:

“Go find Yinglong. Once you secure the goods, send them over immediately. After confirming the entry time, come straight to me at the Safe Zone’s outer Section C.”

“I’ll be waiting nearby. Before you enter, there’s something I need to tell you.”

Without looking back, Yenir calmly finished his instructions and stepped off the jet.

He was sure the Blood Nightingale caught his hint.

Before he and Yinglong entered the instance, this woman would be overcome with curiosity about what he intended to say—and where his confidence came from.

Until then, there was only a slim chance she would betray him.

    And more…

    “Section C?”

Her eyes flickered as the Blood Nightingale nodded, regaining her haughty demeanor.

The outer safe zone’s Section C? That was near the Military Construction Corps.

Seems this little brat claimed not to fear her betrayal, yet was already prepared to bolt at the first sign.

    Hmph…

A strange glimmer crossed her eyes as she watched Yenir’s retreating figure. Suddenly, she grew curious about what he intended to say before entering the instance.

This little bastard—where did he get the nerve to have her operate as an insider with Yinglong?
