Chapter 411: A Perilous Pact
by xennovelHe froze for a moment.
Yenir instantly regained his senses, as if he had caught on to the thought swirling in Blood Nightingale’s mind.
“You really think that as soon as I step into the instance, I’m a goner?”
“Exactly. I don’t know where you got the confidence to scheme against Yinglong, but I’ve thought it over long and hard and see no hope at all.”
Under the bright lights, Blood Nightingale grabbed his hand and slowly placed it at her waist before speaking earnestly:
“I know you have powerful backing, but whatever forces support you wouldn’t risk a full-scale brawl with Yinglong; they wouldn’t even want to get into a conflict with him.”
“Otherwise, considering how highly you value your materials, you would have already summoned your Peak Third-Stage forces instead of taking such a risk on your own.”
The atmosphere was eerie.
Even though the scene was charged with sensuality, at that moment neither she nor Yenir cared in the slightest about what they were doing.
Almost analytically, Blood Nightingale took a deep breath before speaking once more:
“This time, Yinglong has brought in at least twelve Third-Stage Beginners, one Third-Stage Advanced, plus himself.”
“That middle-aged man under your command might be formidable, but even Yinglong can’t handle him; let alone the rest of your men!”
“Yinglong treats the Renmane as his most prized trophy. Trying to snatch that away from him is no different from killing him and then seizing it!”
“Yinglong is paranoiac! The moment you make a move, I don’t care how you do it—even if it costs you your life and you deny any involvement, I’ll still end up dead!”
“What a coincidence! Yinglong will surely suspect me!”
Even though she was initially amazed that Yenir dared to scheme against Yinglong, upon reflection she realized she could find no chance for his success.
Even if he succeeds, wouldn’t Yinglong end up suspecting her?
Act or don’t act—death is inevitable.
If Yenir succeeds, she dies; if he fails, she still dies!
No matter what, death was certain. In despair she realized that her only lifeline was to persuade Yenir to forgo entering the instance and to stop “forcing” her hand!
She wasn’t afraid of death, but she absolutely couldn’t afford it—so many things were left undone!
After pouring out her true thoughts, Blood Nightingale managed a bitter smile as she looked at Yenir with a complex expression.
“I know I can’t escape, and I couldn’t think of any other way to persuade you to back off.”
“Ye Lin, I admit I was the one to make the first move against you, but didn’t you retaliate?”
“I’ve lost everything. I have nothing left.”
“If you still feel unsatisfied, then do as you please…”
As if surrendering herself completely into Yenir’s hands, the next moment Yenir felt a pair of moist lips collide with his. Between labored breaths, Blood Nightingale swayed her hips as if trying to please him.
The kiss was ferocious; Blood Nightingale clung to him as if she wanted to merge their beings. Yet, this time, Yenir sensed that she had shed all her pretenses and was desperately trying to curry favor, hoping he’d pity her.
“Ye Lin… you’re tempted, aren’t you? I don’t believe you truly don’t want me…”
“Hmph…”
“Give me a few years, and I can forge a pact with you… by then I’m willing to give you everything…”
“Everyone wants me, but I don’t believe you’ve ever been moved…”
With soft, almost affectionate breaths, Blood Nightingale’s eyes glazed with a blend of desire and a pleading sadness as she stared at him.
“If you think this isn’t enough… I can always offer more…”
Everything shifted in an instant.
Yenir had never imagined Blood Nightingale would act this way. He had always assumed she was merely venting her frustration, taking revenge and testing him. But now it seemed she was trying to win her life back by ingratiating herself to him.
After all, for Blood Nightingale her body was the only bargaining chip she could offer.
He had considered that he would need to hand over enough chips to make her fully cooperate.
But he never fathomed that, from her perspective, he stood no chance—instead, he was only dragging the two of them to their doom.
Was the unbridled Blood Nightingale before him really her true self?
Or had her previous demeanor just been a facade to protect herself?
Rarely, as he looked at the girl clinging to him in an attempt to please him, did Yenir find himself unable to decipher which version of Blood Nightingale was real.
Yet, deep down, he sensed something was off.
But no matter which it was…
He abruptly pushed Blood Nightingale away.
Feeling Yenir’s hand reaching out, she initially moved to comply, letting him caress her. But the next moment, she was startled to see him simply staring at her, as if he had something to say:
“Let me introduce myself. My name is Yenir.”
“Night as in night, and Nirvana as in peace.”
As his words faded, Blood Nightingale blinked in confusion, clearly at a loss for what Yenir was getting at.
Introduce yourself? What does that even mean?
She instinctively repeated the name, feeling it strangely familiar.
“Ye… Yenir!?”
Two seconds later, the sudden familiarity hit her like a shock; her whole body trembled and disbelief filled her eyes.
“Ye Lin!? Yenir!?”
Wasn’t that bastard’s name supposed to be Ye Lin!?
“You’re Yenir!? Wait, you work for the Military!?”
Stunned into silence, Blood Nightingale gasped as if she’d seen a ghost. She had suspected Yenir’s identity before, even wondered if he could be a Military man.
But her previous guesses paled in comparison to the truth of who Yenir really was.
“That’s right. This time my plan has the full backing of the Military.”
“You thought the forces behind Yinglong were too terrifying, worried about his reprisal. But a Bloodshadow Legion? Our Military doesn’t bat an eye at them.”
Yenir said this offhandedly, his tone cool and detached.
He was deliberately hinting that the instance would not feature just him, but top-tier Military elites as well.
Explaining the plan in detail was too troublesome; it was easier to let Blood Nightingale’s imagination fill in the gaps.
His identity was on full display; outsiders would easily deduce that his mission was mandated by the Military.
Blood Nightingale might think he couldn’t possibly handle Yinglong, but with the entire Huaguo Military behind him, that wasn’t an issue at all. Frankly, if not for the countless concerns that the Military had, what was one Yinglong?
Huaguo’s Military really only had the Four Commanders, but that didn’t mean they only had four Peak Third-Stage warriors accumulated over the years!
Sure enough, shocked by his identity, Blood Nightingale’s breathing grew rapid.
Just as Yenir had anticipated, she immediately connected the dots!
With the Military’s support, Yenir could indeed go after Yinglong—even killing him wasn’t out of the question!
In that instant, a flash of inner turmoil and something unfamiliar crossed her eyes.
If someone else claimed to represent the Military and hinted at action, she’d have doubted it. But…
Yenir’s true identity was simply astounding!
In the eyes of the public, the meteoric rise of Yenir in just a month was nothing short of a miracle. Many survivors privately even speculated that he was the illegitimate son of some top official!
The reasons were clear: Global Trials’ top four in the four series, Huaguo’s youngest committee member ever, and a future one of the Four Commanders! Just days ago, the Military had parachuted him into the East Sea as the highest commander, saving the entire region! Even now, his name was being hyped on the Battle Zone channel!
It’s hard not to suspect that Yenir is a star deliberately crafted by the Military’s propaganda!
After all, many believe that his performance was too extraordinary—almost as if the Military was eager to claim all the glory in advance.
Frankly speaking, in the eyes of most survivors, Yenir, who had the entire Huaguo establishment as his backing, was the epitome of supremacy!
What’s a Bloodshadow Legion compared to that?
Yenir represented the full might of the state apparatus! How could any private faction ever compare!?
Seeing the stunned look on Blood Nightingale’s face, Yenir wasn’t surprised and decided to lay down another bet.
“Inside the instance, a Peak Third-Stage warrior will accompany me, so you have no reason to worry about me missing my mark.”
“Once we succeed, whether it’s Equipment, Credit Points, or a clean slate for your identity, I can provide it all.”
With his promise made, Yenir couldn’t be bothered to say any more.
He was supremely confident that under his steady guidance, this woman would know exactly what to do!
Sure enough, a few seconds later, Blood Nightingale gripped his hand tightly and looked up at him with resolute determination:
“Yinglong has no psychic powers, so… he can’t sense anything beyond his immediate vicinity!”
