Chapter Index

In the sewage-ridden factory, echoes reverberated all around.

His tone remained unnervingly calm – almost like idle conversation – but to the young girl, it struck like a bolt from the blue, leaving her face ashen.

    “Swish!”

On instinct, Zhang Ke raised her massive crossbow in terror, nearly launching its bolt straight at Yenir’s forehead.

    It was utterly horrifying.

A Ghost corpse, severed in two, lay on the ground, still reeking of charred flesh.

Yet at that moment, Yenir ran over and asked if she wanted a shot – or even to sleep with him!?

Such a depraved, perverse remark left elite Ghost Hunter Zhang Ke utterly shocked. Heaven help her – she’d seen rough tastes before, but never anything this extreme.

They had barely met, having just dispatched a monster, and he launches into such madness.

    “No!”

    “I’m not doing that here!!”

Stunned and terrified, Zhang Ke’s eyes went wide as if struck by fright, and she shouted at the top of her lungs.

In response to her instinctive plea – a subconscious effort to protect herself – Yenir scrutinized her expression as if judging something.

    “No?”

Disregarding the crossbow still aimed at him,

with a resounding boom, the ground split apart.

In an instant, Yenir moved like a shadow—crushing the broken earth beneath his foot before materializing right in front of the girl.

Unlike his earlier calm self, his eyes now glinted with lethal intent as he gripped the Elemental Blade, its focus shifting squarely onto Zhang Ke.

It was as if he would execute her with a single, decisive strike.

“Don’t want to sleep with me? I bet you’re too scared!”

    “Scared! That’s because you’re a Ghost!”

    “Boom!”

Flames, searing at thousands of degrees, erupted once again from his blade.

Confronted by a sword strike potent enough to kill Third-Stage cultivators, Zhang Ke finally grasped Yenir’s crude, brutal logic amid the murderous intent.

What kind of twisted logic is this?!

Is he judging whether I’m a Ghost?!

Realizing she was about to be cut down by that very logic, Zhang Ke’s expression nearly collapsed.

“No!!! I’m really not a Ghost, ahhh!!”

“Not?! If it isn’t you, then why wouldn’t you be willing?”

Faced with Yenir’s unyielding intent to kill, Zhang Ke’s devastated expression, illuminated by the flickering flames, threatened to break into tears.

She could already smell her hair burning from the intense heat.

“I can prove who I am!! My team is outside!”

“I’m really not a Ghost, ahhh!”

“Prove it however you like! Go ask them!”

    Desperation, a reluctant compromise.

There was no way to escape, no chance to win in a fight.

The young girl pointed outside, hoping to validate her identity with the presence of her teammates.

Yet, facing her plea, Yenir only sneered coldly, as if appraising her from above.

    “Proof? Team? Anything at all?”

“Take off your pants, and I’ll believe you.”

    Zhang Ke: *&……&*&!!

    ……………

    One minute later.

    “Captain! Captain, are you alright?!”

“Who are you?! You rushed in so suddenly—it was downright dangerous!”

Worried, several fellow Demon Hunters rushed in from outside the factory, surrounding Zhang Ke.

Their anxious faces, watching the girl’s crumbling expression, betrayed their sudden apprehension as they instinctively glared at Yenir.

Especially one Second-Stage Ghost Hunter, the one who cared most about her, whose face turned pale, his gaze filled with bewildered uncertainty as he looked at Yenir.

Ignoring the emotions of these humans, Yenir casually observed them.

In stark contrast to his earlier threats against Zhang Ke, he now acted as if nothing had happened, calm and composed.

Of course, he genuinely had done nothing further.

With a sidelong glance at the speechless Zhang Ke, a peculiar glint flashed in Yenir’s eyes.

He had only been testing her reaction; in fact, her performance seemed fine. Without her removing her pants for verification, he couldn’t be sure if she was really a Ghost.

And the reason he didn’t continue his test or simply kill her right then was due to another consideration.

Because Zhang Ke was a Ghost… perhaps even preferable that way.

“This girl was clearly close with the late Ghost Anya.”

“If Zhang Ke isn’t a Ghost, then she must have been deceived by Anya. And if Anya hadn’t died, she would have brought the girl here herself.”

“Following normal plot progression, it’s very likely new ‘partners’ will show up later.”

    “Now that’s interesting…”

Retracting his gaze, a playful glint danced in Yenir’s eyes.

A Ghost lurking by his side, introducing him to new ‘partners’ one after another.

Theoretically, these partners should all be Ghosts, though there’s a chance some might be hybrids.

If they’re human, that’s the method used in the Ghost Battlefield saga to boost the credibility of hidden enemies.

Under such an arrangement, more ‘bait’ would inevitably be deployed—possibly even luring them deeper.

For Yenir, his goal had always been to descend to the very last level.

He didn’t mind taking shortcuts when possible.

    Moreover…

“Whether Zhang Ke is human or Ghost, if I kill her, I’ll lose the chance to meet another special Ghost. That storyline would be completely severed.”

“Taking down two special Ghosts would surely alert their mastermind, leading to unforeseen consequences.”

    “So…”

    “Let the show go on…”

“At worst, I’ll strike before the Ghosts can retaliate. I lose nothing and definitely won’t be duped.”

“Besides, special Ghosts are far easier to kill than Third-Stage ones. And I don’t even have to go hunting for them…”

At that thought, Yenir decided not to press further.

Meanwhile, after frantically assuring his teammates he was fine, Zhang Ke inevitably chose to approach him.

    “Hey, Yenir.”

“Isn’t Sister Anya with you? Is she okay?”

“Though I don’t know how you suddenly became Third-Stage, if you’re willing, you can join us.”

“We have missions to complete and need to keep moving forward.”

“Of course, if you think we’re weak, then forget it.”

Biting her lip and lowering her gaze, Zhang Ke whispered, even though deep inside she longed to distance herself from Yenir, who was simply too intimidating.

But having witnessed his power, she realized that if he joined them, their mission would proceed much more smoothly…

    “Alright.”

As the storyline unfolded just as she had expected, she agreed without hesitation.

Once Zhang Ke’s voice faded, Yenir let out a light chuckle as he addressed another matter.

    “As for Anya…”

    “Uh, she’s pregnant.”

“I’m in it for the baby formula money.”

    Zhang Ke: ?????
