Chapter 470: Legions and Rewards
by xennovel“Master!?”
Instinctively, Li Dafu, who had been crouching down and casually fondling his reward item, looked up as if he were being eyed by some sinister presence. His whole body trembled as he met Yenir’s strangely eerie gaze.
“Wh-why are you staring at me like that!?”
Shrinking his neck like a little girl cornered by a thug, Li Dafu asked in a terrified whisper.
Somehow, he felt that Yenir’s look was just off.
“Nothing.”
Yenir let out a light laugh and shook his head, abandoning the idea of turning Li Dafu into an Otherworldly Ghost and instead refocusing on the system instructions.
Just ten seconds earlier, when he saw the Combined Suit’s skill, an impulse surged within him!
He thought, why not simply transform Li Dafu into an Otherworldly Ghost to see what happens?
However, after some thought, he decided to spare poor Li Dafu…
Using this little runt as cannon fodder would be a waste. If he were to kick the bucket, finding an NPC later to help with deception would be too difficult.
“Undying Legion: After selecting a target, turn them into an Otherworldly Ghost.”
“Maximum controlled units of the legion: 10 (each level gained by the controller increases capacity by 1000%!)”
“Transformation Requirements: Human in a voluntary state or on the brink of death.”
“Note: If the target resists strongly, the transformation will fail.”
“After transformation, a portion of their original talent is retained along with enhanced physical strength.”
The instructions were simple—clearly designed to build a legion.
Upon seeing this newly added special ability, Yenir instantly grasped the true source of the suit’s power.
One can imagine that a two-piece set can not only grant even the lowest-level Awakener formidable combat strength but also the ability to assemble an entire legion. Fully assembled, the effect would be outrageously potent.
In fact, the suit itself is a complete battle system—an artifact capable of sustaining an entire force, even a small nation!
“I haven’t finished settling my rewards yet…”
“Ten Third-Stage Beginners will upgrade to at least Third-Stage Mid-level units once out… a 1000% boost—that’s tenfold!”
“So, once I leave, I could control at least 100 units? No, a hundred Otherworldly Ghosts…”
“A hundred, all fiercely loyal, fearless in the face of death and empowered under Mind Light—super soldiers indeed. Honestly, even without the Sword God System, these two pieces alone could launch me to greatness…”
Yenir couldn’t help but sigh, a mix of admiration and wistfulness in his eyes.
Although transforming humans into Otherworldly Ghosts might be morally questionable, he wasn’t so rigid as to avoid using it.
At worst, he could employ it against his enemies or even on willing humans.
Not to mention—even if it meant sacrificing reproductive ability, gaining power by altering one’s very nature would have masses lining up to become Otherworldly Ghosts!
It’s no wonder; in the harsh ancient world, many became eunuchs just to eke out a better life serving the powerful.
Let alone now, in these end-of-the-world times…
“But at this stage, this thing’s greatest use might not be for fighting—it could create death soldiers…”
A gleam flashed in Yenir’s eyes as a deep, meaningful thought crossed his mind.
After transformation, the Otherworldly Ghosts under his control still looked entirely human. Perhaps it was unlikely for some to volunteer, but if driven to the brink of death, control was achievable…
It might yield unimaginable results!
And his enemies weren’t limited to mere monsters!
“If there’s a drawback, it’s that transforming strong-talented Awakeners isn’t very effective.”
“Otherworldly Ghosts are still somewhat weak; enhancing the flesh works for low-level ones, but for Third-Stage, overall strength matters more.”
“Low-level humans gain a decent boost from transformation, but for those with high innate talent, it actually weakens them…”
Noticing that the instructions mentioned retaining some innate talent, Yenir realized that an Awakener’s ability would inevitably change after transformation—and most likely diminish.
From the Otherworldly Ghosts he’d battled, it was clear that while their bodies were robust, their special abilities were sorely lacking.
“Forget it—after all, they’re just cannon fodder… Once I’m out, I’ll experiment and see exactly how they work!”
Without further thought, once the suit’s effects were confirmed, Yenir drew the remaining rewards and exited the Dungeon.
The haul far exceeded his expectations. He was now ready to march back to the Capital and deal with Lu Tianming first!
Although the old saying claims a gentleman needn’t rush revenge, Yenir couldn’t tolerate even a day’s delay. Enemies must be slain on the spot—a second’s hesitation is an insult!
“Extract equipment!”
“Extract skills!”
Without hesitation, he chose to extract both rewards simultaneously, eagerly awaiting the outcome.
Although they were merely Blue-Grade Gear rewards, the sheer volume was hard to resist!
Six items! Surely at least a few must be of real use?
Mind you, even if Blue-Grade Gear no longer caught his eye, some high-quality equipment could still prove practical! Just look at Yinglong—a Peak Third-Stage warrior who still uses blue-grade gear.
What suits you best is the best!
“Ding: Extraction successful: Obtained Barbarian Bear Helmet (Blue).”
“Ding: Extraction successful: Obtained Dragon Fang (Blue).”
“Ding: Extraction successful: Obtained Frost Boots (Blue).”
“Ding: Extraction successful: Obtained Bloodletting Giant Axe (Blue).”
“Ding: Extraction successful: Obtained Phantom Gauntlets (Blue).”
“Ding: Extraction successful: Obtained Fireheart Armor (Blue).”
“Ding: Extraction successful: Obtained A-Class Skill [Earth Flame Eruption].”
…
Seven consecutive system prompts rang out, and with the clatter of falling equipment, three pieces of armor and three weapons shimmered in blue as they landed before Yenir. At the very top lay an A-Class Skill Book.
“Not bad luck at all—half of them are weapons.”
With a raised eyebrow and amidst Li Dafu’s startled cries, Yenir casually picked up the top helmet to check its stats. After a quick glance, he simply discarded it in favor of the Ring.
Weapons and gear held the highest value—before acquiring Military support, these items would fetch at least 700,000 to 800,000 Credit Points. But now, he wasn’t too interested.
Unless it was something extraordinary, he had little desire to change his own equipment.
Yet after a swift scan, Yenir found nothing particularly appealing.
Except for that Skill Book and a long dagger that looked as if it were forged from half a spine.
“Dragon Fang…”
“After slaying a target, it absorbs the energy released upon death. Once enough energy is gathered, it summons the Dragon’s Phantom, stunning and dealing area damage to nearby foes.”
“It even comes with armor penetration and bleeding effects…”
“Hmm, its power may not be overwhelming, but it could certainly replace my old dagger.”
After fidgeting with the dagger for a moment, Yenir immediately swapped the weapon at his waist, replacing the one provided by the Military—a Broken God Dagger that had a similar effect but reduced mental energy consumption.
In comparison, it was clear that Dragon Fang was far superior to the Broken God Dagger.
After reviewing the equipment, Yenir planned either to hand it off to Li Dafu for disposal or to keep it for building his own force.
Then his gaze fell on the final reward—the A-Class Skill Book.
“Earth Flame Eruption… sounds like it belongs to the Elemental Type…”
