Chapter 472: A Reunion of Resolve
by xennovelYoung Yenir! You’ve finally come back!
You have no idea – during the days you were gone, those few…
As dawn neared, two of Tang Hai’s Confidants at the Bloodshadow Safe Zone watched in delight as Yenir suddenly returned. Groggy from sleep, one of them dashed over to him and began complaining.
“What’s going on?”
“What about the group I brought back? Why are there fewer now? Did someone from the Bloodshadow Legion show up?!”
With a trace of fatigue in his eyes, Yenir had almost instantly scanned the entire camp with his psychic power upon landing.
In his assessment, it seemed that a few of the soldiers he had rescued were missing.
But thankfully, the most important one—Lin Rou—was still here.
Hearing Yenir’s icy tone, Tang Hai’s Confidant hurriedly replied:
“Not at all!”
“It’s just that, Young Yenir, the soldiers you rescued haven’t wanted to stay since you left. From what they say, they plan to hit the slave market to see if they can free some of their captured comrades!”
“Not only that—if you hadn’t told them to wait, they’d all have run back to the Military!”
“Isn’t that absurd?!”
“Their identities are already sensitive. If something goes wrong, the trouble would be enormous!”
Both angry and exasperated.
Although neither of them belonged to the Military, because of Yenir’s influence they had no choice but to cover for these soldiers.
Just days ago, they almost got exposed when this group—meant to be trained as slaves—brazenly took to the streets!
They never cared much for the Military; their only task was to keep an eye on these men until Yenir returned.
“They want to go back? And they’re already out in the open?”
After hearing the details, Yenir frowned slightly and let out a sigh of relief.
He wasn’t surprised by the soldiers’ desire to return and rescue others.
It was just… they were too rash.
Unlike those two who considered each other their own, these men were his responsibility. For Yenir, rescuing them was simply his duty as fellow Military. If they chose to leave, he wouldn’t stand in their way.
These fighters were admirable. If it weren’t for his pressing matters, Yenir wouldn’t mind personally escorting them back—and checking on the Border situation along the way.
From what Lin Rou reported, there seemed to be significant issues between the Border troops and the Military.
“Call them back and arrange for a fighter jet to take them home,” he ordered.
“Tell them that if they want to return, we’ll find a suitable opportunity to send them back.”
“Also, they can contact the Military to come over—but preferably not.”
After quickly weighing the risks, Yenir finished speaking and headed toward the room where Lin Rou was.
Although he could have forced them to join his personal unit, Yenir decided to put that plan on hold for now.
Raising a force in Far Frontier under his own banner wasn’t a short-term task.
He was eager to leave Far Frontier; these issues would have to wait until later!
…………..
Thump, thump
The sound of footsteps echoed.
Striding into the room, Yenir immediately spotted Lin Rou, lost in thought on the bed.
In the modest room, only a few bottles of water and several opened packs of rations adorned the table.
It seemed Lin Rou hadn’t ventured out of this room since he left.
“Didn’t you leave with them?”
Standing before her, Yenir asked cautiously. Noticing the girl’s indifferent expression, he felt something brewing in her heart.
“They went off to find someone—it has nothing to do with me.”
“And I don’t need to go back to the Military.”
Lifting her gaze, Lin Rou spoke calmly. Her pale face and vacant eyes betrayed no emotion.
“Besides, didn’t you tell me to wait for you?”
Ignoring the slightly brusque tone in her voice, Yenir nodded and didn’t bother with further pleasantries.
“What do you plan to do?”
“If you have no plans, then come work with me.”
“You should know that if you don’t return to the Military, your abilities will only get you by in Far Frontier. Alone and without any backing, you’re an easy target.”
“Resources, equipment, skills, logistics… it’s nearly impossible to survive in Far Frontier on your own.”
Sitting on the bed, Yenir looked intently at Lin Rou, who sat with her arms crossed.
Admittedly, even without any adornment, everything she’d been through had given her an icy, untouchable aura that made one strangely desire to possess her.
“Work for you?”
“Do what?”
“Be your assistant?”
Resting her head on her knees, far from the excitement of their first conversation, Lin Rou let out a cold laugh as if she had finally understood something.
“Someone as important as you—what do you need me to do?”
“Fetch tea and water for you? Or be your caged canary?”
“I don’t think there’s anything about me that should captivate you. In terms of strength, even our Captain outclasses me.”
Tilting her head, Lin Rou chuckled self-deprecatingly.
During Yenir’s absence these past few days, she recalled their earlier conversation. Although she felt Yenir might be different from other top brass, his gaze always struck her as odd.
Upon reflection, aside from her looks, she didn’t believe she had anything worth his attention.
She wasn’t naive. She had heard and realized that Yenir’s interest in her far exceeded that of the Captain and the others.
A legendary top official from the Capital—a youth her own age—made her feel utterly insignificant, especially since she had shown reluctance towards the Military.
Ignoring her attitude, Yenir knew that when someone’s endured pain and shattered beliefs, they often come to despise everything.
“Work for me. Become part of my team.”
“I’m planning to sort out the situation in Far Frontier, and that’s why I need someone by my side.”
“You want to become stronger, don’t you?”
“I can provide you with unlimited resources, equipment, and skills!”
“There’s only one condition: you must follow my orders without question!”
Without any pretense, Yenir spoke in a low tone. With a flash of white light from his hand, several pieces of Blue Equipment along with some Spirit Energy Fruits that enhance strength appeared on the bed.
When it came to someone like Lin Rou, he didn’t feel the need to hide anything.
What he wanted was a force that belonged entirely to him!
Not under the banner of the Military, but under his own leadership!
Far Frontier might seem chaotic, but it’s one of the areas he can control most quickly and directly. In case of an emergency, it could play a crucial role.
“Only obey you!?”
For a brief moment she was stunned—then, in the next instant, Lin Rou’s heart raced. Yenir’s words sounded acceptable, yet they were far from what someone of his rank should say!
As an official high-ranking figure, if Yenir’s remarks got out, the consequences would be enormous…
Just like the first time she met him, Lin Rou fixed her gaze on Yenir while also stealing a glance at the equipment on the bed.
It was the first time she’d ever seen so much gear, and no matter how composed she tried to remain, her breathing quickened.
Of course she believed in Yenir’s promise!
Of course she wanted to become stronger!
“Why me?”
“What is it about me that you find appealing?”
“And don’t you know what it is I want to do!?”
Confused and breathless.
As if struggling, Lin Rou couldn’t help but retort—she simply couldn’t fathom what this youth intended.
“Doesn’t he know what he wants to do himself?”
Facing her questions, Yenir seemed utterly indifferent as he spoke calmly:
“You needn’t worry about what attracted me to you.”
“Give me your life, and I’ll let you have your revenge!”
“Isn’t it that you want to kill that bunch of scum, slaughter everything you despise, and finally stop suffering for the so-called greater good?”
“Kill—kill as many as you want!”
“Once you’ve wiped them out, I have one demand: that you become the blade in my hand!”
