Chapter 480: Dawn of the Death Duel
by xennovelSeated at the head of the table with a cigarette clutched between his fingers, the square-faced man was momentarily stunned by what he heard.
He had imagined that Yenir would storm in, furiously accusing Lu Tianming – he never expected her to show up for any other reason.
“Change the Death Duel time?”
“What do you mean – delaying it?”
Next to the meeting table, a high-ranking Military official from the Army wore a peculiar expression as an odd glimmer flashed in his eyes.
Yet he clearly doubted that Yenir was truly indifferent about the matter.
“Yenir, you don’t always have to bring up the Death Duel.”
“What? If you have a problem with Committee Member Lu, that’s between you two.”
“This batch of spirit energy ore is exactly what the Army needs, and besides, we did return a portion to you, didn’t we?”
“What’s the point of assigning these ores to the North China Battle Zone? Do you have any idea how much pressure the Army is under right now?”
“Let me be frank—these supplies are far more useful in our hands than in yours!”
“I expect you to think of the bigger picture! Stop causing more trouble!”
As his words fell, the Awakener representing the Army faction wore a look of blatant disapproval.
In his eyes, only the higher-ups took Yenir seriously—this kind of resource allocation, critical to the entire Battle Zone, was never meant for a ‘child’ to meddle in.
How to distribute them is their concern! In the face of national interests, what is one individual worth? Not a shred of dedication—only more trouble for them!
Beside the Army executive, a high-ranking officer from the Air and Space Unit showed a hint of resignation in his eyes.
Listening to the rather curt remark, he planned to ease the tension and smooth things over.
“Yenir, we understand you might not fully grasp these issues right now,” he said gently.
“So here’s the plan: I’ll decide that the Army will dispatch some personnel to help with the defense of the North China Battle Zone. They’re our own, so don’t worry about who ends up with the supplies.”
“And you’ve arrived at the perfect time—we also wanted to talk to you. Let’s drop the Death Duel matter for now.”
Clearing his throat lightly, the Air and Space Lieutenant General seemed oblivious to the cold in Yenir’s eyes. Instead, he rose as if out of goodwill and spoke sincerely:
“Give up the Death Duel, Yenir.”
“Our Military will claim to the outside world that it was all a misunderstanding, that nothing ever happened.”
“But if things continue and something goes wrong between you and Committee Member Lu, it might not end well for you.”
“Of course, if you prefer to postpone the Death Duel, that’s perfectly fine.”
Not one to spare face for Yenir, the man sighed as soon as he finished speaking, only eager to send her away.
They assumed Yenir was determined to take on Lu Tianming head-on, not just acting on an impulsive challenge to a Death Duel set three months later.
Delay the Death Duel only to eventually come out on top over Lu Tianming? Is that what she intends?
That’s a clever thought—if it can be postponed, so be it… they wouldn’t mind dragging it out further.
Everyone present, all sharp-minded individuals, voiced their agreement in unison.
Amid the impatient stares, Yenir simply shook her head and tossed her ID Card across the table.
“I told you—I didn’t come because of the ore.”
“As for that stuff, consider it dog food.”
“I have only one purpose today: to move the Death Duel up to tomorrow. If the Military won’t set a venue, I’ll go find Lu Tianming myself.”
With that, Yenir turned on her heel and left, leaving the startled onlookers and the Army official—whose face turned ashen—in complete disbelief.
There was nothing left to say.
In his mind, Lu Tianming was already a dead man.
“What is he saying!?”
“Dog food!? Is he treating us like dogs!?”
“Tomorrow’s Death Duel! Has that kid lost his mind!?”
“Bang!”
Almost as soon as Yenir left the Meeting Room, everyone who had just caught on looked on in shock at the closed door.
She didn’t come to postpone the Death Duel or seek an explanation—she came to start it early!?
Furious beyond measure, the Army official who had been branded a dog by Yenir erupted in anger. He knew Yenir was arrogant, caring little for anyone.
But he never expected her to be this insolent!
“Who does he think he is!?”
“Tomorrow’s Death Duel! Let’s see how he meets his end!”
“Someone like him in the Army is nothing but a black sheep—a cancer!”
“General Ge, please calm down! Didn’t you hear Yenir? Since we won’t set a venue, she plans to go find Committee Member Lu herself!”
A mixture of disbelief and sheer absurdity overwhelmed him.
Although none of them could understand why Yenir was going berserk again, they instantly realized that if the Death Duel isn’t started early, given her temperament, she might very well start something in the Capital!
That would spell enormous trouble.
“Go and notify the Prime Minister!”
“Tell the Prime Minister to quickly reason with this kid! Isn’t he asking for death!?”
“Why talk? Let him die! Does he really think the Death Duel is a joke?! Who does he think he is, flaunting his talent as if he can do whatever he wishes!?”
“I say let him face Committee Member Lu—let this kid learn his place!”
“I agree—it’s only been a few days. How many Death Duels has he initiated? He thinks we’ll all cover for him and that no one will take him seriously! I say we let him taste a bit of hardship!”
………………..
In the high-level residential area, in front of a tea table.
Lu Tianming was calmly absorbing the compiled reports from his subordinates as he casually brewed tea.
As if struck by a thought, he lifted his head slightly and asked the Youth standing by.
“Wasn’t it reported that the kid had just appeared in the Military Region?”
“What’s the situation now? Is he causing trouble?”
“I heard he even brought his sister along. Is he planning to play the victim again?”
With a ready smile, Lu Tianming grinned lightly, completely unfazed.
“Committee Member, there’s no news so far. But I have a feeling it’ll be the same.”
“Rest assured, we’re handling that batch of ore impeccably. There won’t be any problems.”
He responded cautiously. Just as his subordinate inquired again about any updates from colleagues at the Command, a message suddenly arrived.
The next second, the Youth standing by froze as if he had witnessed something truly unbelievable.
Huh?
Glancing to the side, Lu Tianming quickly picked up on his subordinate’s unusual reaction.
“What’s happening?”
“Has it escalated?”
With these questions in mind, after a brief stupor the Youth hastily spoke up in a strange tone:
“Committee Member Lu!”
“That kid—he actually demanded to start the Death Duel ahead of schedule!”
“The time is… tomorrow!?”
As the words fell, Lu Tianming, gripping the handle of his teapot, was momentarily stunned before breaking into a laugh as if he’d heard the world’s biggest joke—his face etched with disbelief.
“That kid—could he have gone mad with anger!?”
“Tomorrow’s Death Duel? If he’s looking for a death wish, then I’ll see to it!”
………..
Two hours and nine minutes later.
A bombshell of news spread like wildfire.
But unlike previous explosive headlines, this announcement left everyone utterly baffled.
Tomorrow—in 24 hours—Third-Stage Beginner Honorary Committee Member Yenir will face Third-Stage Advanced Executive Committee Member Lu Tianming.
This battle is a Death Duel—no one stops until one is dead.
