Chapter Index

    Swish! Boom!

The sonic boom clouds from the high-speed flight spread out like a series of massive black umbrellas.

Under the faint pre-dawn light, the resolute Lu Haishan flew expressionlessly at the forefront, trailed closely by a swarm of Third-Stage Awakeneds.

“Old Commander! The Capital’s no-fly zone is just ahead!”

    “Should we… slow down?”

    “It’d be a real mess if we’re misunderstood…”

A cautious subordinate, a Third-Stage Advanced Awakener shielded by a blue aura, whispered his concern.

No sooner had the words left his lips than the ever-accelerating Lu Haishan whipped his head around, enraged, and roared:

“Misunderstood? Misunderstood what? That I’m plotting treason or something?!”

“I’m eager to see who dares to stop me!”

His voice brimmed with unbridled anger and sorrow.

After hearing the news of Lu Tianming’s death, he seemed to age ten years in an instant, his burning rage and grief nearly clouding his reason!

Especially since it was said that the man responsible for killing his only son was nothing but a lowly bastard—a Third-Stage Mid-level!

    He refused to believe it!

He couldn’t accept that his beloved son would fall by the hand of such a minor figure! Nor could he fathom that Lu Tianming, whose strength far eclipsed that of that scum, could be slain!

To him, this was clearly a problem within the Capital—a covert hit!

Lu Tianming’s death wasn’t by chance; it was the result of conspiracy, a surprise attack!

Whatever the case, he was determined to avenge his only son!

The howling wind swept his hair aside.

Seeing Lu Haishan’s eyes turn a beastly red, one subordinate who’d been about to speak fell silent, gripped by fear.

Old Commander was utterly furious; there was no need to prod this hornet’s nest.

In truth, none of them could understand why Committee Member Lu had died.

The emergency live broadcast showed that Lu Tianming’s death was shrouded in mystery, the events unclear.

The final footage was forcefully cut off by the Military present.

    “Old Hu, don’t overthink this,”

“This time we’re taking our case to the Military and the Prime Minister! When someone dies, we deserve answers!”

“With your reputation, Old Commander, I refuse to believe the Military would cover for that bastard! Otherwise!”

(A cold snort cut through the air.)

One of the Third-Stage Awakeneds who had followed Lu Haishan the longest fixed his unflinching gaze on the fighter jets approaching. Even as they were subtly intercepted and surrounded, his eyes betrayed not the slightest hint of fear.

Who is Lu Haishan?! Once lauded as a top leader, equal in stature to the supreme commander before the army’s reorganization…

If the Old Commander hadn’t stepped down voluntarily, who would be in charge now!

They’d truly infuriated him now. What is the Military but the guardian of post-apocalyptic peace that they themselves forged!

Within minutes, ignoring the fighter jets’ repeated broadcasted warnings, the 40-man Third-Stage formation surged past the Capital’s air defense line, heading straight for the city center.

Aboard each fighter jet, soldiers of the Capital Military District could only helplessly alert the ground defenses, informing them that Lu Haishan was blatantly ignoring their orders.

There was nothing they could do.

Although strict regulations governed the Military, who would dare to stop an enraged Lu Haishan?

Many Military Awakeneds, having guessed his true intent, could only sense an approaching storm.

Yenir is bound to be in trouble.

    …………….

“General Lu, coming all the way from the Northern Battle Zone this late must have left you exhausted. Why not rest at the Military District for a while? The Prime Minister’s meeting is still in session.”

“Besides, the Prime Minister and Commissar Hu mentioned they’d like to catch up with you later.”

Outside the Capital’s Outer City Defense Line.

Leading the Rongjing Unit, an officer forced a strained smile as he looked at Lu Haishan, who had been forcibly ‘stopped’ by him and his men. He beckoned Lu Haishan over, gritting his teeth as he spoke.

Frankly, he felt he shouldn’t even be saying this at such a time.

But he had no better excuse to hold him back.

    “Where’s Yenir?”

    He barked coldly.

Staring at the numerous solemn soldiers on the City Wall and hundreds of Military Third-Stages, Lu Haishan asked in a hoarse, icy tone.

His bloodshot eyes locked onto the direction of the Safe Zone.

“Yenir? You came looking for Yenir?!”

    He feigned surprise.

“General Lu, it’s just that there are some… matters…”

    “I said, where is Yenir?!”

“Let that little bastard come out!”

“What? Are you trying to stop me? Or does Tianming’s death somehow involve you?!”

    “Boom!”

In an instant, his aura exploded, sending rocks crumbling and collapsing.

The once-sturdy City Wall was blasted apart, a segment shattered before their eyes.

Ignoring the cluster of Military Third-Stages blocking his path, Lu Haishan paid no mind to his own indiscretion, his eyes blazing as if spitting out fire.

With a sudden surge, he released a ring-shaped shockwave that made every Third-Stage present tremble.

They were like prey facing a ravenous beast.

The overwhelming pressure weighed down on everyone in an instant.

At that moment, Lu Haishan’s expression turned maniacal as he flew at full speed, his tousled silver hair lending him a madman’s look!

What an imposing presence! Even approaching seventy, as a Peak Third-Stage top-tier powerhouse, Lu Haishan’s strength hadn’t waned. His prowess remained fearsome, his body operating at peak condition!

Their breaths caught in their throats.

Realizing the Old Commander wouldn’t allow them time to explain, the lead Military general’s face paled noticeably.

Damn it! If we keep blocking him, he might really attack!

They were caught between a rock and a hard place—stopping him or letting him go, neither option seemed viable!

“General Lu! I honestly don’t know where Yenir is! But rest assured, the Military and the Prime Minister will give you answers!”

There was no choice. The lead Military general replied in a low, steady tone.

The conflict must not escalate—at least, not until the Old Commander calms down!

Listening to the Military’s reluctance to reveal Yenir’s location.

A bitter laugh escaped him; in that moment, Lu Haishan seemed to hunch over even further.

But the more he did, the more his terrifying aura intensified.

“Answers…? Is the Military’s idea of an answer to let him slip away? To hide him? I, Lu…”

His voice broke mid-sentence, raw with anguished fury. In the next instant, a wild gleam flashed in his eyes and with a roar, he shot off like an arrow, hurtling in one direction.

    “Boom!!!”

Another sonic boom echoed through the air as silence fell.

It was as if the Old Commander had uncovered Yenir’s hiding place, for dozens of Third-Stages from the Northern Battle Zone soon followed in hot pursuit.

In an instant, only a stunned Military general remained, his face etched with shock and dread.

Watching Lu Haishan violently break through the defenses, the general realized in mere fractions of a second that Lu had somehow obtained Yenir’s coordinates—and was now on a killing spree!

Damn it! Who leaked the information?!

Unbeknownst to him, a General with the surname Huang, standing behind, flashed a wicked smirk.

It was he who had provided the details.

Without further ado, he sent Lu Haishan the coordinates of Yenir’s location immediately after Yenir was taken.

    Protecting Yenir? Stalling for time?

    On what grounds?!

He longed for that little bastard to be cleaved in two by Lu Haishan’s blade!
