Chapter 549: Masks and Mayhem
by xennovelHalf an hour later.
Yenir stared expressionlessly at the body of Ye Ze Ming, whom he had slain, with a white mask clutched in his hand.
As his peripheral vision caught sight of Dongyang Hao Yi and Ping Ye crawling and kneeling before him, he merely issued a calm command.
“Clean this place up.”
“Within an hour, I want to see the documents of all the contestants.”
Without wasting a word, armed with his ability to transform into an Otherworldly Ghost and overpowering strength, he silently took control of the entire Safe Zone in less than two hours!
Even Dongyang, the former leader of the Safe Zone, was transformed into an Otherworldly Ghost by him.
The difficulty wasn’t high.
He even frightened Hakechi into submission—what chance would a mere Third-Stage Advanced stand?
Without hesitation, after extracting a drop of blood from Dongye Ze’s heart, Yenir decisively fixed the mask on his face.
But moments later, accompanied by a series of grating bone-cracking sounds, he transformed to resemble Ye Mingze.
The mask was provided by the Military; it was a special item.
It was said to have been worn by a traitor who infiltrated Huaguo’s upper echelons in the Japanese Battle Zone seventeen years ago. By posing as the descendant of a general, he stole the contestant information, resulting in a complete leak during the Dungeon resource scramble.
The tables have turned—probably none of the Japanese Battle Zone survivors ever expected Yenir to have infiltrated their midst.
“The effect is quite impressive…”
“And the luck is on my side—right when I ran into someone who also wields a sword.”
With a low chuckle, Yenir looked at his hands with satisfaction, as well as the reflection of Ye Ze Ming in the mirror.
Under the combined cover of his mental prowess and the mask’s disguise, only someone with Peak Third-Stage strength could even begin to uncover his true identity.
Other than that, everyone saw him as Ye Ze Ming!
“Even though you’re dead, at least your name will top Japan.”
“This honor should let you rest in peace.”
With a quiet laugh, Yenir glanced down at the Ye Ze Ming he had split into two at his feet and spoke with a disturbing seriousness.
He felt not an ounce of remorse for dispatching the enemy Battle Zone’s Awakeners.
His plan was simple: seize a Safe Zone and nominate himself for a rank jump in the contest.
By impersonating a genius from the Japanese Battle Zone, he aimed to clinch first place while eliminating every ‘genius’ he encountered in the competition.
Kill everything, loot everything, cheat everything!
That ‘three-all’ policy is perfectly justified.
However, he hadn’t mentioned any of this to the Prime Minister or the others, and he had even ensured that the Military Third-Stage Awakening group in the Far Frontier kept his slaying of Yinglong a secret.
Now that he was in enemy territory, although Li Xuanguo’s side would never leak any information, he couldn’t be sure if there were any old-guard Peak Third-Stage traitors within.
Secrecy was paramount—he had no desire to be exposed while undercover in enemy country.
Yenir knew human nature all too well.
He had no doubt that if word got out, those leeches would, out of national interest, refrain from betraying him.
“Divine Warrior Selection… Cultivating the Japanese Battle Zone’s top geniuses to restore glory…”
“Heh heh…”
“Don’t worry. I’ll help you restore it.”
Taking the selection rules that Hirata had respectfully handed to him, and after reading the promotional slogans, Yenir couldn’t help but chuckle before tearing them to shreds.
Impressive.
The Japanese Battle Zone certainly values martial spirit and takes things seriously.
The entire competition will be a series of death duels, with three rounds of eliminatory selection set to commence in about two days.
The eventual winner will receive the privilege of training support from the Japanese Battle Zone as well as two major prizes.
Yenir wasn’t the least bit worried about clinching first place.
With the competition limited to contestants below Third-Stage Mid-level, his participation promised nothing short of a massacre!
