Chapter 587: Chaos in the City
by xennovelAbove the chaotic city, more than twenty silhouettes, like phantoms, streaked silently across the sky.
Using his mental power to conceal their trail, Yenir headed straight for the crash site of the helicopter.
Trailing behind Yenir, Wang Tiejun’s urgency was evident before he finally spoke up:
“Yenir, I understand your plan. You want to extract the data from that military aircraft to track down the world’s military organization.”
“But frankly, this approach will leave traces. And even if we seize control of the Military, in reality…”
He left the rest of his sentence unspoken.
Everyone knew that Yenir’s innate talent and combat prowess far exceeded those of ordinary elites, so none could fathom how he dared to plan an ambush against rival nations.
Remember, with this team, even a single Peak Third-Stage operative could inflict catastrophic losses!
To Wang Tiejun, Yenir’s words sounded not just arrogant but downright insane!
Is he really inviting us to our own demise?
In this national war, a death means a deduction in points! If fortune favors them and they manage to dodge every hit, they might even finish as runners-up.
But once conflict erupts and someone dies, they’re destined to end up last—and that means punishment!
Listening to Wang Tiejun’s impassioned pleas, Yenir only smiled and offered little further explanation.
Before he makes a move, he won’t reveal the full extent of his power.
Though it’s unlikely any traitors exist among these twenty, a bit of caution can never hurt.
“Follow me—that’s an order.”
His calm command silenced the Military Awakeneds trailing him, leaving no room for dissent.
For soldiers, obeying orders is paramount.
Even if Yenir’s strategy defies their understanding, they’d follow his orders—even to the point of self-destruction.
All one could do was…
Watching Yenir’s retreating figure, Wang Tiejun sighed inwardly and silently vowed to protect him at all costs in the battles ahead.
He hoped that their sacrifices might eventually make Yenir recognize the true dangers of this national war…
Silence prevailed.
Ignoring the mass of survivors fleeing below, Yenir and his team quickly reached the broadcast tower atop a building.
“Bang bang! Bang!!!”
Standing in the open, Yenir quickly scanned the rooftop with his mental power, instantly locking onto the zombies and decapitating them one by one in the blink of an eye.
Compared to the zombies in Reality, those here were, as the System had claimed, several levels weaker.
With just a brief surge of mental force, every zombie on the rooftop was eliminated in less than a second.
They landed.
Amid the scattered, headless corpses, Yenir first glanced at the burning helicopter, then abruptly turned toward a storage room on the rooftop.
“Come out.”
“I see you.”
Inside the dim, suffocating metal shed, a few local survivors shuddered as they peered through the door crack, their eyes wide with terror.
Before they could decide whether to open the door in their panic,
a resounding bang echoed as the heavy iron door was violently wrenched open by an unseen force.
………………
“Hu…hum…human…”
“Who exactly are you?!”
A trembling, fearful voice cried out.
Six or seven survivors, recently herded out by Yenir, stared in sheer terror at the youth before them.
By some mercy, although they hadn’t seen much of Yenir and his team’s deeds while hiding in the storage room, they couldn’t help but notice that these soldiers looked like superhumans straight out of a movie!
In a swift motion, the very zombies that had trapped them were decapitated on the spot!
The sight of Yenir using his mental power to tear the door off its hinges had left them utterly astonished!
This supernatural force was completely beyond their comprehension!
To them, Yenir and his crew were far more terrifying than the mindless zombies.
“Answer only what I ask.”
“Any nonsense…”
“Bang!”
As he spoke, Yenir casually raised his hand; the mental force from the Void crushed a water tank on the rooftop.
The sharp sound of it bursting startled everyone.
Paying no mind to the terror in their eyes, Yenir continued:
“Who among you belongs to the Authorities? Who holds the highest rank?”
He casually surveyed the survivors while instructing the Military Awakeneds to search for crucial information from the helicopter, his tone unnervingly calm.
Clearly, in a city just struck by a zombie outbreak, a military helicopter arriving for rescue—even if it crashed—meant someone of high stature was among them.
Capturing and controlling that individual would save him a lot of time.
Having done this plenty of times before, Yenir moved through the situation with ease.
The group of four men and three women looked utterly disheveled, though two among them still seemed to be striving to remain calm amidst the chaos.
Sure enough, under Yenir’s intimidating scrutiny, the survivors dared not utter a word. Trembling, a middle-aged man with gold-rimmed glasses took a deep, shaky breath and raised his hand:
“I… I’m the General Manager of Nofi Pharmaceuticals. I also hold an external position with the Military.”
“Sir… are you one of the superhumans from a secret Military project?”
The middle-aged man’s face, etched with shock, betrayed his cautious glances toward Yenir.
In his mind, he could only imagine Yenir and his team as superhumans bred in some clandestine Military program.
Although it sounded unbelievable, he hadn’t heard of anything else.
After all, that’s how it was portrayed in the movies.
Raising his eyebrows in response to the question, Yenir merely gave a slight nod, seemingly satisfied with the man’s credentials.
“Not bad. It seems we have a high-ranking local NPC here—and from the Military, no less.”
Nofi Pharmaceuticals? That sounded like a group dedicated to developing virus antidotes in this world.
But… it didn’t matter.
After confirming his identity, Yenir didn’t hesitate. A flash of crimson ignited in his eyes.
“Buzz.”
Accompanied by a series of agonized screams, the weak-willed survivors were instantly overwhelmed by his force, their will shattered as they transformed into Otherworldly Ghosts.
He wasn’t interested in wasting time with further chatter—in Yenir’s mind, converting them into ghosts was far more efficient than dealing with a bunch of NPCs.
…………….
Twenty minutes later.
At Cairo A1 Military Base.
“Boom!!”
Following a deafening explosion that obliterated the ground’s power system, Yenir calmly waved his hand and commanded:
“Move in and take control here!”
