Chapter Index

Yamamoto, the ranking board has changed again! Something doesn’t seem right!

Trailing right behind Yamamoto, a Peak Third-Stage Awakener couldn’t help but glance back towards the distant city cluster.

As he surveyed the chaos—with hordes of survivors fleeing through the city gates—his eyes remained fixed on the area around the TV Tower deep within the city.

Once it became clear that they couldn’t hold back that damned alliance between the monkeys and the sticks, they evacuated the invaded city at full speed, planning to bide their time and conceal their movements outside.

At Third-Stage speed, it took them only minutes to reach the national highway.

They had been about to revise their strategy when, all of a sudden, the ranking board they’d been monitoring shifted dramatically.

    “I noticed it,” he said.

    “Internal meddling?”

“Or… are the Huaguo in that city!?”

    He frowned deeply.

As the team leader, Yamamoto’s brow furrowed in baffled confusion.

Not only had he noticed the shift in points, but he also faintly sensed the battle that had just erupted!

    But… how is that possible!?

If those allied monkeys had simply fled, he wouldn’t have been too surprised—refusing to cooperate with them was expected. The problem is, these monkeys, after joining forces with the sticks, burst into combat the very next moment!?

A glance at the rankings revealed, in stark detail, that it was the Huaguo who had slain those monkeys!

    Unbelievable!

Not to mention—what kind of ability did those damned pigs possess to secure kills before two battle zones! The very fact that Huaguo were in the city left him utterly shocked!

Isn’t this no different from waiting to die!?

“It could be… did the Huaguo and South Koreans join forces!? Or perhaps the Huaguo allied with the Vietnamese? They saw the Koreans and Southeast Asian monkeys combine and couldn’t help but act!”

Those are the only two plausible explanations.

Amidst mounting suspicions, Yamamoto could only try to find a rational explanation.

His instincts had never imagined that Yenir and his group possessed the strength to pull this off!

After all, the Huaxia Battle Zone entered first—and absurdly early at that! It implies that even if those damned pigs were similar to them and opted to send in low-rated, high-power Third-Stage fighters, their numbers would be pitiful!

“Yamamoto, do you think it’s possible that the Huaguo, capitalizing on their early entry, discovered something in this world? Did they even get help from native NPCs?”

“Otherwise, even if they teamed up with other battle zones, what would compel their partners to hand over the ranking points!?”

“With Huaguo’s capabilities, no one would be willing to cooperate if they had to grovel, right!?”

He couldn’t help but suspect even more possibilities.

Seeing the Huaxia Battle Zone ranked first on the board, he felt the situation was too bizarre and absurd!

    “Impossible!”

    Without the slightest hesitation.

With a sweeping gesture, Yamamoto dismissed that possibility outright.

“In this national war, these NPCs—and the power of this world—are absolutely reliable!”

“I’m convinced this is just the simplest system scenario!”

“What a joke! If this world truly offers a power that can be harnessed to let the Huaguo pull this off, it’s outrageously unfair!”

“What kind of national war would that even be?!”

Taking a deep breath, Yamamoto—one of the peak warriors from numerous national wars—shouted sharply.

“Forget about it! Who cares what they’re up to! What we know for sure is that the Huaguo are most likely still in the city we just left!”

He glared intently at the vehicles that kept crashing outside the city.

A zombie crisis had just erupted in this world—a development that, for them, could only be good news.

The mere thought of the Huaguo he was itching to hunt down—and the fact that Yenir was in a city less than a hundred kilometers away—unleashed an uncontrollable surge of determination within him!

Not only were these Huaguo not retreating, they even had the audacity to pull such tricks!

They really don’t fear looking pathetic even in death!

Yet, unless he knew exactly how many factions the Huaguo had allied with, he dared not act rashly.

    What should he do?

Strike when the time is right? Wait for the right opportunity?

The fact that these Huaguo made their move so quickly suggests their strength isn’t impressive—they’re probably just trying to snag a few early points!

But one thing is certain: those useless Huaguo undoubtedly have some backup!

Maybe wait for the next battle zone to arrive and team up against them?

With a glint in his eye, Yamamoto quickly decided he’d wait for the next battle zone to join the fray.

He wasn’t worried that the newcomers wouldn’t cooperate with him once they arrived!

Anyone with half a brain could deduce from the rankings what was really at play!

Just as Yamamoto sneered and was about to signal his team to withdraw a bit, a sudden chill flashed through his heart.

    “Who?!”

    “Boom!!”

A Spirit Shield sprang up in an instant. With lightning-fast reflexes, he erupted in a burst of black mist, leaving several afterimages on the highway as if he had turned invisible.

Startled, the Japanese Awakeners immediately raised their guard and rushed to cluster around their comrades.

At the same time, concealed within his Spirit Barrier and hidden in a blind spot, Yenir’s expression darkened as the Final Judgment he had been channeling gradually dissipated.

    What a quick response…

He had only just activated his skill—preparing to strike the deadliest-looking Japanese Awakener with a thunderous assault—when the man suddenly sensed that something was off.

He had to admit, the guy’s alertness and reaction time were more impressive than expected.

Shaking his head, Yenir, lurking in the shadows, sighed and had no choice but to abort his assassination attempt.

    That’s right.

Having anticipated the Japanese Awakener’s intentions as well, he decisively circled around with his subdued Peak fighters.

Thanks to his formidable mental fortitude, he quickly located the group of Japanese Awakeners.

His initial plan had been to take them all out in one go—then let each subsequent battle zone fall one by one!

But now it seemed he no longer had the perfect opportunity to strike.

“Chances are I won’t be able to one-shot them… even if I did, I’d nearly exhaust all my trump cards.”

“If the incoming battle zone isn’t nearby and reacts a bit faster, the situation could get a whole lot worse.”

After a brief hesitation, Yenir shook his head and began to retreat.

He was incredibly strong—even if another battle zone joined the fight, he wouldn’t flinch!

Yet, he wasn’t confident he could hold onto everyone.

If the next battle zone ended up a bit farther away and picked up on the anomaly, there’s no doubt they’d play it safe by retreating and hiding!

Moreover, any subsequent battle zone would undoubtedly team up to take him down!

“It must be the ranking distribution messing things up…”

“If only the Otherworldly Ghosts could kill without it affecting my score…”

With a sigh, a flash of cold determination passed through Yenir’s eyes.

Observing the wary, clustered Japanese Battle Zone, he knew that this national war wasn’t going to be an easy conquest.

    In that case…

Glancing instinctively at the high-ranking leaders from various battle zones on his team, a bold—even if somewhat reckless—plan suddenly formed in his mind.

    Instigate divisions, sow discord…

And then sweep them all away?

It would be a shame not to make proper use of these Otherworldly Ghosts!
