Chapter 609: Tangled Alliances in the War Zone
by xennovelYou Vietnamese War Zone, you plan to team up with us to devour the Koreans you’re allied with!?
Inside a towering building under the cover of night, a team of West Asian Battle Zone Awakeners stared in astonishment at the Vietnamese Third-Stager who had raised his hands in a gesture of peaceful intent.
Outside the city, the constant howling of zombies and the occasional explosion roared incessantly.
But for Third-Stagers from every Battle Zone, it was nothing more than noisy background chatter.
“That’s right. I was sent by our Captain specifically to seek an alliance with you.”
“To prove our sincerity, we can leave hostages here!”
Stepping over the zombie corpses freshly cleared from the building—though perhaps even human bodies—
two Vietnamese Awakeners calmly raised their hands and advanced step by step toward the squad.
Watching the approaching Vietnamese, the squad captain’s expression shifted repeatedly. Ever since they had been first ‘found’ or bumped into, he’d instinctively feared an ambush by the Vietnam War Zone!
Tasked with gathering intelligence, the squad comprised two Peak Third-Stagers and seven Third-Stage Advanced fighters.
But clearly, they couldn’t take on the entire Vietnam War Zone—especially when analysis revealed that the Vietnam War Zone had already allied with at least one other faction!
Yet, to their surprise, just as they were about to break out and flee, they discovered the opponents numbered only two.
Not only that, but the proposal for cooperation was downright bizarre.
“Hostages!? Are you serious?!”
“Aren’t you Vietnam War Zone, allied with the Huaguo? How has it turned into the Koreans now?!”
Sporting his trademark full beard, the West Asian Squad Captain felt his mind go into a tailspin as he couldn’t help but blurt out his questions.
“What are you talking about? This is no joke!” His unit had swiftly simulated the national war’s dynamics based on the scoreboard as soon as they entered.
Although they weren’t entirely sure if their conclusions were right, at least two things were certain!
First, the Japanese Battle Zone and the Central Asian (Arab) Joint Battle Zone had teamed up— and not long ago, they even attacked the Indians!
Second, among the first four factions to enter—the Huaguo, Vietnam, Southeast Asia, and Korea—there had to be paired alliances. Otherwise, Huaguo wouldn’t top the rankings!
Thus, as they entered alongside the Indian Battle Zone, they immediately realized that joining forces with India might be necessary; otherwise, the other zones would concentrate their fire and knock them out early!
After all, they were the strongest and the last to step in!
But before they could locate the Indian Battle Zone and gather more intel,
the Vietnamese approached them directly!
Damn it—in a heartbeat, the entire West Asian squad thought this was completely absurd!
“Awakeners of the West Asian Battle Zone, please hear our explanation.”
He cleared his throat lightly.
The Otherworldly Ghost Third-Stager, controlled by Yenir, spoke rapidly:
“In fact, here’s what really happened!”
“At the very beginning, as soon as the Huaguo arrived, they were hunted down by the Koreans, but halfway through the pursuit, we entered. We originally intended to also hunt the Huaguo for a piece of the pie, yet the Koreans weren’t willing to share, so we ended up clashing with them instead.”
“In the ensuing chaos, the Huaguo suddenly rallied and counterattacked, taking down the Korean Awakeners! Seeing things go sour and fearing that we might join forces with Huaguo to turn on them, the Korean Team fled immediately.”
“Later, since we also feared that the Koreans and Huaguo—despite past grudges—might unite against us, we temporarily withdrew as well.”
“After that, once the Koreans noticed the Southeast Asians had entered, they planned to join with them to ambush us and Huaguo. But who would have thought—the Huaguo had long secretly agreed with the Southeast Asia Battle Zone, and when the Korean and Southeast Asia zones converged, they ended up ambushing the Koreans instead!”
“In this scenario, the Korean zone naturally thought of us and planned to team up to encircle Huaguo and the Southeast Asia Battle Zone.”
“But then, because…”
…
“In short, while we maintained a facade of cooperation with the Korean Team, mutual suspicion lingered. Deep down, we knew the Koreans intended to take us down too!”
“That’s why our Captain ordered us to team up with your zone! Together, we’ll take down those three!”
Babble filled the air as the conversation continued.
After laying out the entire scenario in one breath, a Vietnamese Third-Stager, secretly controlled by Yenir, looked at the West Asian Awakeners with genuine sincerity.
The account was a mix of truths and lies, but according to Yenir’s orders, all they wanted was to muddy the waters!
The whole situation was utterly chaotic, yet the more outlandish the story, the more it won the trust of other Battle Zones! After all, in a national war, there are never eternal enemies—only everlasting interests!
After listening to the Vietnamese Third-Stager’s explanation, the West Asian Squad Captain gaped for what felt like an eternity before reacting.
He managed to grasp the meaning behind the Vietnamese Awakener’s words.
Essentially, the four factions—Huaguo, Vietnam, Southeast Asia, and Korea—were mired in mutual suspicion, collaborating only to repeatedly betray one another.
Thus, while superficial pairwise alliances had been struck among the four, each was secretly seeking external partners to ultimately take down the other three!
It all sounded like a complete mess, yet it was a scenario that could very well be true!
Especially when…
“Captain, these Vietnamese insisting on leaving hostages with us—I feel that maybe we can truly work with them!”
“And as for the Indians, their strength rivals ours. Even if we ally with them, a battle is inevitable…”
Though the logic was convoluted, the potential benefits of the Vietnamese initiative left the West Asian squad undeniably intrigued!
Their overall might was undoubtedly superior to the Vietnamese—by joining forces to take out everyone else, they’d eventually be in a position to deal with the Vietnamese on their own terms!
Anyone who disagreed would be a fool!
After a brief, intense moment of contemplation with no apparent flaws, the West Asian Squad Captain hesitantly nodded, intending to report back to the team leader.
A few seconds later, his expression turned slightly odd, but he forced a smile as he clasped hands with another.
“Happy cooperation!”
“So you mean we should head straight to the Korean outpost and surround it, coordinating an internal and external assault together?!”
…………………..
“You Southeast Asia Battle Zone want to team up with us—are you planning to betray the Huaguo?!”
“Yes! Esteemed Indian powerhouse, we can even collaborate with you to take down the Vietnam War Zone!”
….
Four hours later, at a port…
Yenir chuckled softly, watching with satisfaction as various Battle Zones steadily converged on a single coordinate displayed on the screen.
After dispatching four Otherworldly Ghosts to work in tandem with four controlled Third-Stagers from different zones, the national war scenario had become as tangled as an intricate web.
Every zone believed another was about to betray its own ally.
Under his calculated guidance, every Battle Zone resembled moths drawn to a flame as they converged on the designated location.
“That’s about it—give it a few more hours and the net will be drawn…”
“Once all my skills have cooled down and I’ve set up the Evil God Ritual… all it takes is the ensuing brawl to take out a few Peak Third-Stagers…”
“Who can stop me now!?”
