Chapter Index

Listening to Yenir’s request, the Squad Captain found himself momentarily at a loss.

Discussing some information was acceptable, but when it came to actual operations…

Perhaps it was the looming major battle, or maybe he was wary that Yenir had caught the favor of a powerful figure.

Taking a deep breath, the Squad Captain decisively used his mental power to transmit a message directly to Yenir:

“Little brother, you’re really putting me in a bind… Here’s the deal: during tonight’s test, you can blend in with the guards and observe. I’ll get you a badge, and as soon as you’re done, come straight back!”

“Remember, don’t wander off or go where you’re not supposed to. Otherwise, no one can protect you! You might even lose your status and never reach Third-Stage mid-level in this lifetime!”

“And if you’re discovered, under no circumstances mention me!”

    Half threat, half compromise.

After speaking, the Squad Captain signaled to Yenir that his badge and uniform would be delivered to him a little later.

Of course, he wouldn’t assign Yenir to his own team; if Yenir were exposed, he trusted that Yenir would know what to say.

“Officer, rest assured. I’m just here to check out the test; I won’t be wandering around aimlessly.”

“Afterwards, I need to rest—I can’t afford to perform poorly tomorrow.”

Feigning utmost concern for his identity, Yenir nodded repeatedly in solid assurance.

Seeing the Squad Captain extract no further information, Yenir wasted no time. After a brief thank you, he led Ming Luo and the others to the designated area.

But as no one watched, a sudden glimmer of joy flashed in Yenir’s eyes as he walked away.

Finally, things had gone smoothly for once!

    An unexpected delight!

To be honest, he never expected the Squad Captain to be so cooperative—helping him forge an identity without hesitation!

(With a guard’s identity and my prowess, I could start sifting through the entire underground structure tonight without wasting a second!)

(Concentrate on below the twelfth level? Maybe there’s a high-ranking officer hidden within the base?)

A flash of determination in his eyes, Yenir breathed a sigh of relief; he planned to act the moment his badge arrived!

If he could resolve the issues here sooner, countless lives might be spared!

    ————-

“Captain, why waste so many words with that kid? Even if he meets the requirements, frankly…”

“Shut up. Mind your own business. Sure, they may end up clueless and trapped, but that kid is special. Haven’t you forgotten that our base hides something beneath it?”

    “Boom—clack.”

As the metal door slowly closed, the Squad Captain impatiently cut off his subordinate’s concerns.

He knew exactly what his team was talking about, but times had changed. Having spent years on the base, he possessed insider knowledge unknown to the outside world.

For instance, a group of Third-Stage mid-level individuals and influential figures within the base had mysteriously vanished not long ago…

According to the Base Military’s high-ranking officers, it was only a few days back that they discovered the Capital Military had betrayed them—as traitors, no less. Frankly, he was very skeptical.

With chaos on the horizon, he had no choice but to pick a side, yet that didn’t mean he wasn’t forging an escape route for himself.

That kid from Fire Wolf Team, if he passes the high-level requirements, might even join their ranks. Then he’d at least have a connection.

An early investment surely can’t hurt.

    ……

“Lord Yenir, let’s split up for now and head back to rest!”

“Rest assured, everything we’ve observed and all the analyses you provided will be relayed to the Military! Once Minister Zhao learned of the situation, he mobilized the Special Operations Group to fully assist us!”

Standing outside the lounge, Ming Luo stared at Yenir with a grim expression, his heart heavy with dread.

If it weren’t for Yenir’s sudden plan to infiltrate the rebels, they might’ve never uncovered the myriad conspiracies hatched by them! In all honesty, their operations here were even more critical than the impending battle!

“Everyone, get some rest. There’s another test tonight. Be careful not to expose yourselves—I suspect tonight’s test involves something truly problematic.”

Yenir nodded subtly, choosing not to say more, instead urging Ming Luo and the others to be cautious and to rest up.

If his hunch was right, the next test would involve either the Sea Beast or mutants. The rebels’ claims of absolute safety were utter nonsense!

He could see the immense pressure weighing on Ming Luo and the others—he even knew that the Capital was suffering from severe strain!

The Prime Minister, fearing for his safety, had repeatedly ordered his return instead of risking his life. And Fang Hao, dismissing any comfort, had deployed part of the Third-Stage mid-level force to vigilantly monitor the Tianjin Battle Zone.

Should an emergency arise, they would storm in without hesitation to assist him.

To Yenir, all this concern only muddied the waters further.

He only needed the Military and the Research Institute to back him with intelligence—analyzing exactly what he was witnessing here.

Without further ado, Yenir finished his instructions and opened the door to his lounge.

The entire underground structure resembled a warship; every level was rectangular, dominated by a restricted central area—a mysterious energy core that seemed to power the entire facility.

Around the edges were compartments reminiscent of ship cabins, each room isolated from the others.

(Space here is limited, or rather most areas are sealed off. The rooms are small, with scarce areas to explore. But my room…)

With a click as the mechanical lock engaged, Yenir looked around, surprised by the layout of his room.

His room was clearly the largest on this level. Although it maintained a militaristic style with minimal decoration, the conditions were decent—clean, bright, and even featuring a study and a bathroom.

(It must have belonged to a former officer…)

After a swift assessment, Yenir headed inside, intending to check if his room connected to the outside.

But after only a few steps, a faint blend of fragrance and dampness drifted from the corner near the shower room.

    Hmm!?

Yenir froze, suddenly unleashing his mental power—before he could even process what was happening.

In the next instant, a young girl wrapped in a towel, her hair still damp from a recent bath, stood frozen and terrified.

    “Ah!!!”

“How did you get into my room?! Get out! Hurry, get out!”

The girl, nearly losing her towel in the shock, turned pale as fear filled her eyes at Yenir’s gaze.

    The reason was simple.

She recognized Yenir, and Yenir recognized her.

    “Yu Keran?”

“No, what do you mean ‘your room’? This is mine, you know?”

Yu Keran’s shout almost gave him a headache.

Yenir stood silently, finally realizing what kind of mysterious gift the officer had sent him all along…
