Chapter Index

Beep. We have entered the Ruins Battlefield.

The event will begin in 1 minute. Please prepare.

A slight dizziness washed over Yenir as he found himself immersed in a radiant light barrier.

Unlike the scene before, they now stood atop a fully restored City Wall, and the ground beneath was free of craters.

Except for the absence of people, everything else had reverted to its former glory.

Compared to the previous ruins, it was evident they were in a massive defensive fortification. Dozens of heavy artillery positions were arrayed behind the wall, and unmanned firing platforms brimmed with heavy machine guns.

Undestroyed tanks lay scattered like iron blocks both inside and outside the wall, exuding an aura of grim resolve.

“Brother Lin, the battle is about to begin. We need to hold out for as many rounds as we can against the corpse tide.”

“The early rounds will be simpler, but when high-level mutants appear later, it’s all on you.”

“But don’t worry. If you can’t hold on much longer, I have my own way to take care of those monsters – maximizing our rewards.”

Once on the battlefield, Chen Yong hesitated briefly before hinting to Yenir that he possessed a special trump card.

The peak challenge of the Ruins Battlefield was somewhat akin to the Death Factory instance – the more rounds you survived, the greater the loot.

A subtle shift in his gaze told Yenir that the ‘special trump card’ was the very technique he’d heard of in his previous life.

Back then, after a flood of confidential information was released, one dossier specifically focused on the Ruins Battlefield.

It was said that if you couldn’t push on any longer in the Ruins Battlefield, you could utter a specific phrase to ‘awaken’ fallen soldiers to aid you in battle.

Though the revived warriors lasted only briefly, they were durable enough to hold off an entire round.

This spawned a tactic: endure as many rounds as possible on your own, and when you’re truly spent, call forth the fallen soldiers to maximize your gains.

Noticing Yenir’s lack of reaction, Chen Yao, standing nearby, expressed her displeasure:

    “Hey, Brother Ye.”

“This method is incredibly valuable. Once we’re done, you must not let anyone else know about it!”

“We’ll net 55 points, and you’ll soon see just how crucial my brother’s technique really is!”

Casting a casual glance at Chen Yao, Yenir chose not to engage in any dispute.

He could clearly tell that the woman was accustomed to being pampered, carrying herself with a true lady’s demeanor.

Yet from her perspective, the secret was undeniably important—almost priceless, known only to a few major powers.

Had it not been for the near collapse of the Huaxia Battle Zone in his previous life, this secret might have remained hidden forever.

    “Chen Yao!”

Chen Yong let out a soft laugh at his ‘little sister’ before giving Yenir a wry glance.

Even as he pretended to chide Chen Yao for her casual tone, his thoughts were just as blunt.

“Brother Ye, my little sister can be a bit headstrong. Still, I hope you can keep this information confidential. The fewer who know, the better.”

With that, upon seeing Yenir nod slightly, Chen Yong breathed a sigh of relief.

Staring at the fading protective shield, he gripped his giant axe tightly and said:

“Brother Ye, I’m a Strength Type.”

“I noticed you have a pair of dual-wielded weapons hidden under your cloak. Are they swords?”

“Later, while we handle the mutants, my little sister will take care of the zombies and support us.”

Switching to combat mode, Chen Yao, normally haughty, quickly notched an arrow, signaling she was ready to back them up at any moment.

“I’m Agility Type – effective at both close and long range.”

Drawing two white dual swords from beneath his cloak, Yenir replied in a low tone. He decided to pose as an ordinary duelist. With his full set of modest gear, he couldn’t match a second-tier Agility expert, but faking it was manageable.

There was no doubt about his capabilities.

Chen Yong noted the two white weapons in Yenir’s hands and silently assessed his combat prowess.

The title of ‘duelist’ wasn’t an official profession—it merely signified agility in combat and a versatile skill set. Among unaffiliated fighters, it was the most common type. Their survival skills were robust, with no glaring weaknesses, though their actual fighting power was generally average.

The two white weapons suggested that even this second-tier elite was just average.

As Chen Yong pondered silently, the countdown approached its final moments.

    9…

    7…

    2…

    Battle begins!

    “Roar!!”

In an instant, as the white shield disappeared, a black tide materialized at the far end of the plain like an illusion. Amidst the dark horde, four first-tier mutants—towering like iron structures—charged in stride with the corpse tide.

At that very moment, as the monsters emerged, Chen Yao atop the high wall swiftly notched an arrow with her right hand, moving like a fleeting shadow.

    Swoosh, swoosh, swoosh! Whoosh!

    Rapid fire!

In less than a heartbeat, a continuous torrent of arrows cascaded forth, spraying out like water.

A flash of blue at her waist revealed a quiver that, though it appeared to hold barely seven or eight arrows, produced an endless stream to fuel her rapid shots.

A quick glance confirmed it was indeed a piece of Blue Equipment.

Its firepower was impressive – it had real strength rather than being mere decoration.

Glancing at the girl who struck first, Yenir didn’t hesitate; he leaped down from the wall alongside Chen Yong and sprinted toward the corpse tide.

    …..

The zombies looked ferocious. Hundreds huddled together, emanating a repulsive stench.

    “Swish! Swish! Swish!”

The sound of arrows cleaved through the air.

The moment they touched the corpse tide – scarcely after their initial strike – a barrage of arrows from behind struck like high-caliber sniper fire, shattering the nearest zombie. Soon, a line of four or five zombies was impaled in one go, sent flying like skewered meat under immense force.

In the blink of an eye, the zombies before Yenir vanished, revealing the mutant at the heart of the horde.

That certainly saved him a lot of effort…

After a brief appraisal, Yenir wasted no time. Gripping his sword with both hands, he surged forward, leaped, and stomped on the skull of the nearest zombie. Using its spine as a stepping stone, he launched himself onward.

He moved like a fish in water.

His swift movement left a fleeting afterimage as he darted right in front of the steel tower mutant.

    Dual sword slash!

Swords clashed in a dazzling display; in a three-meter arc, an X-shaped sword trail sliced through the steel tower mutant as it attempted to strike, the blade tracing a path through spilled blood as if cutting through nothing.

Under immense force, the monster’s tough exterior – strong enough to deflect small-caliber bullets – proved as fragile as paper under Yenir’s sword, splitting apart effortlessly.

Without pause and after effortlessly dispatching the first mutant, Yenir unleashed a burst of power, propelling himself forward like a speeding arrow.

    Bang!

With one decisive step, he used the fallen mutant as a stepping stone. A sickening crunch of breaking bones echoed as he shattered its shoulder.

Leveraging the momentum, he surged ahead!

Gliding swiftly through the air, he reached the second mutant in the blink of an eye.

He swung his right sword down with brutal force!

Accompanied by a piercing shriek, his sword trace cut through the air like a laser.

Before the steel tower mutant could fully extend its hand, its body froze in place.

A smooth, gleaming cut appeared across its forehead, diagonally stretching down to its chest.

    Bang-bang-bang.

Yet, within a single breath, three consecutive impacts thudded onto the ground.

After Yenir landed, the two steel tower mutants, their exteriors gleaming like polished metal, split in two and slowly collapsed onto the ground.

    The battle was over.

Casually shaking off the bloodstains on his sword, Yenir was met by a resounding thud.

Looking to his left, he raised an eyebrow as he noticed Chen Yong had also taken down his monsters.

Chen Yong was seen bending over as he effortlessly extracted his giant axe from the shattered corpses. Noticing Yenir’s gaze, he grinned, casually flicking his gleaming bald head, clearly relishing the thrill of combat.

    Strength…

    Not bad.

As the battle ended, both men silently assessed each other’s prowess.
