Chapter 83: Moonlit Promises
by xennovelOn the field ridge, the moonlight exuded a hazy glow.
Moonlight broke through the clouds, bathing the endless fields in its soft light.
The silence was absolute.
Surveying the scattered thatched cottages and budding crops, he felt transported back in time.
Behind him, the crowd looked on in bewilderment, unsure of what Yenir intended. Only a few middle-aged individuals, supporting their elders, focused on his retreating figure.
They seemed to know something.
Moments later, Yenir turned and addressed the Military soldiers stationed on either side of him:
“I have a card here—it holds roughly 4,000 points.”
“Please exchange it for supplies for these people. If possible, I’d like a memorial erected here.”
His words left two awakened soldiers staring at him in stunned silence.
4,000 points!?
For the settlement here?
All eyes fell on the card Yenir offered; shock rippled through both the soldiers and the survivors behind them. The middle-aged man managing the settlement looked utterly astonished. My goodness—this influential figure has come by, uttered a few words, and now promises 4,000 points’ worth of supplies!?
They called it a settlement, but it was really a forsaken village—hardly worth more than a first-level fighter scraping by.
Overwhelmed with excitement, he practically rushed forward, bowing and nodding in respect:
“Sir! Rest assured—we’ll erect the memorial!”
“And we’ll safeguard the entire settlement!”
“Would you like a particular inscription on it?”
Eager to please Yenir, the middle-aged man was ready to build a memorial—or even host him in his own home—just to meet his request.
Gazing at the ecstatic settlement leader, Yenir’s eyes darkened:
“I expect you to follow through.”
“If I find any supplies pocketed for yourself, you know the consequences.”
“Also, prioritize those households for the supplies.”
He pointed to the eldest grandmothers in the crowd and sighed inwardly.
He had heard the locals’ whispers. Once the able-bodied villagers were drafted away, the village—if it weren’t in an isolated spot—would have already been overrun by the undead. Even so, without the protection of awakened fighters or any sturdy men, the survivors chose to flee to the Safe Zone.
Only when things slowly became secure did a few return.
One rarely abandons their homeland.
Here, perhaps only those few grandmothers remained as survivors from those dark days.
The only way Yenir could honor the fallen warriors of the Ruins Battlefield was to ensure the locals lived a better life.
“No worries! Rest easy!”
Those assisting the grandmothers couldn’t help but show a glimmer of gratitude at Yenir’s promise, though as they saw the elders wiping away tears, a deeper concern began to surface.
……
Beep. [Last Wish] task completed.
Reward acquired: 100 prestige points.
Notice: Your [Oath] equipment has been updated. Please check it.
Prestige?
As the helicopter cabin shook during the return, Yenir was surprised to see an extra 100 prestige points added to his account.
He had earned such points in his previous life too, though typically only after defeating specific mutants or completing demanding missions—the challenge was always steep.
Prestige can be exchanged for special supplies, like advanced Spiritual Energy Fruits, S-level Skill Books, or even epic-tier equipment.
Of course, higher-tier items demand even more prestige.
They were extremely valuable, yet nearly impossible to obtain—even many third-stage fighters might never get their hands on them.
Moreover, prestige carries a hidden bonus: interacting with dungeon NPCs boosts their regard for you. Simply put, the higher your prestige, the more formidable you appear.
He hadn’t expected the Last Wish task to grant him prestige.
A hundred points could secure him a mid-level Spiritual Energy Fruit…
Its purchasing power was still very strong.
But for now, Yenir wasn’t planning to exchange his prestige; his thoughts were on the suddenly transformed [Oath] Necklace.
“[Oath-Completed] Blue Necklace.”
Attributes: +1 to all stats (with an extra 10% resistance to all elemental attributes).
Effect: 33% faster health recovery (plus a 33% boost in Spiritual Energy regeneration).
Equipment Skill: Unyielding Faith
Unyielding Faith: Rapidly recovers health equivalent to 15 Constitution points within 10 seconds (additionally, recovers Spiritual Energy equivalent to 15 Willpower points in the same time).
Evaluation: A blessed necklace—now even more powerful than before.
Clutching the necklace tightly, Yenir was visibly taken aback.
While the original necklace was already highly valuable, this transformed version was nothing short of a premium treasure.
In his previous life, the original necklace was valued at roughly 90,000 points.
As one of the rarest accessory drops with self-healing properties, it earned its reputation as a lifesaver among melee awakened fighters.
Now, Yenir estimated that the [Oath] Necklace could fetch at least 150,000 points.
However…
He couldn’t bear the thought of selling it.
Its faith-restoring ability was practically life-saving given his current constitution. Though he’d breezed through every battle unscathed, Yenir knew it was all thanks to his SSS-level skills that kept dispatching enemies in seconds.
Staying completely unharmed was impossible—unexpected mishaps always loomed.
After a brief hesitation, he decided to keep it for himself for now, planning to sell it once he reached third-stage.
He exhaled softly; equipping the necklace sent a warm current coursing through his limbs.
The gap in Credit Points…
Maybe he could adjust his goals and aim for a higher-level dungeon.
After a stint of faking a third-stage performance, Yenir quickly concluded that he was more than capable of venturing into second-stage peak, or even dabbling in third-stage dungeons.
Grinding through lower-level dungeons or defeating low-tier mutants for white equipment simply wasn’t enough for him.
It was the blue-grade gear that truly held value.
A thought suddenly crossed his mind.
Moments later, Yenir recalled a suitable dungeon from his memory.
Hmm, but if he tackled a higher-level dungeon, he’d have to wait for his skills to cool down.
Even though his Sword Storm would be ready in a day, that simply wasn’t fast enough for him.
Once all his skills had cooled down and armed with three SSS-level abilities, he was confident that, barring any mishaps, he could convincingly pass as a third-stage fighter—even if confronted with a hostile third-stage opponent, he was sure he could take them down.
For some reason, a familiar face suddenly flashed across Yenir’s mind.
He found himself inexplicably nostalgic for that person.
Bring on another Farming Team—no shortage of challenges could faze him!
