Chapter Index

At this point, even Lin Feng couldn’t help but curse out loud.

Over a million ships—big and small—were barreling towards him from every direction at full speed.

What kind of nightmare was this?

Sure, space was vast and these ships wouldn’t collide right away—some of the closer ones might take an hour or two, while the distant ones could take days or even decades to arrive.

Still, the whole scene left Lin Feng seriously confused.

What the hell was going on here?

“Forget about those ships for now. Focus on wiping out the fleet in front of us!”

    “Yes, Major General!”

“Ops team, plan an operation right away. I want a few people captured from those civilian ships. I need to know who’s piloting them.”

    “Understood!”

On the ops team, Su He nodded in agreement.

Lin Feng had a mountain of questions, but the only hope of finding answers was to wait until they brought someone in.

For now, none of that mattered. The most important thing was destroying the enemy fleet right in front of them.

    ——

    Two hours later.

The last of the enemy warships in front of them were obliterated.

After that, following the ops team’s plan, a squad of Bai Ze Mechs moved ahead to disable the engines of a charging cargo ship.

Once the enemy lost mobility, Lin Feng ordered the warship to slowly approach.

When they got close enough, over a dozen white beams slashed through the void, striking different spots on the cargo ship for just 0.2 seconds.

An instant later, several converted Kovaloans appeared in the warship’s detention cell.

“All ships, set a course for the Kovalo Federation’s capital planet. Initiate fleet jump!”

    “Yes, Major General!”

    Seconds later,

A hundred Federation warships shimmered as the void compressed around them, vanishing from sight.

Lin Feng had no patience to sit here for days, slowly taking down a million ships one by one.

He planned to head back first, then figure out what was really going on with these people.

After that, he’d decide what to do next.

Three hours and two jumps later,

Lin Feng led the fleet into orbit above the Kovalo Federation’s capital planet.

    Reynold was baffled.

Only a few hours ago, hadn’t they set out for the Vico Line? How were they back so soon?

    Did they lose the battle?

But that didn’t seem right. All one hundred Federation warships looked untouched—not a single scratch.

And really, how could a Level Four civilization lose to a Level Two or Three anyway?

    Just then…

“Leader, General Lin Feng just sent word. He asks that you come aboard his warship immediately—there’s an urgent matter to discuss.”

“Got it. Tell General Lin Feng I’m on my way!”

Reynold moved fast—barely ten minutes later,

He was already standing on the flight deck of the Zhulong-class warship.

A waiting major greeted him and led him down to the lower decks.

The ship’s detention cells were located in this area.

    “What the…”

The place looked completely different from the upper decks, more like an engine room than anything else. Reynold was a bit lost.

“This is the lowest deck. The detention cells are just ahead,” the major explained.

The major offered a quick explanation.

Meanwhile, Reynold’s heart skipped a beat.

Wait, why were they bringing him here? Were they planning to do something to him?

Damn. He hadn’t brought a single guard along, and not that it would have helped, but still…

    What should he do?

What was he supposed to do now?

Lost in his worries, Reynold didn’t even notice the major in front stop, and walked straight into his back.

“Sorry, sorry! I was lost in thought and didn’t see where I was going.”

    “No worries, Reynold. We’re here!”

    Huh?

That’s when Reynold noticed there were quite a few people up ahead.

Besides Lin Feng and a squad of fully armed Federation soldiers, a number of people in lab coats were bustling around.

    “Reynold, you made it.”

Lin Feng didn’t bother with formalities, calling Reynold by name.

Reynold didn’t think anything of it.

    “General Lin, what’s all this?”

“Relax. Nearly thirty thousand Tira warships have been wiped out,” Lin Feng reassured him.

    “What? That fast?”

    Reynold was stunned.

When had Lin Feng’s group even left?

It had been a little over nine hours ago, and they’d already eliminated all the enemy forces from Tira?

And that included travel time for the fleet…

“Then I’ll arrange for a fleet to take over Tira right away!”

Snapping back to reality, Reynold responded briskly.

Now that the enemy in Tira was gone, Lin Feng’s hundred warships were back as well.

If he didn’t send some forces in right away, wouldn’t Lin Feng’s efforts go to waste?

He might not have that many ships, but he still had five thousand near the Vico Line. Sending two thousand into Tira to block the interstellar current shouldn’t be a problem.

    But then…

    As Reynold turned to leave,

Lin Feng reached out and grabbed his shoulder.

“Hang on, Reynold. There’s something you need to confirm for me.”

    “What is it, General Lin?”

“Look at them. They’re Kovaloans, right?”

    Huh?

    Reynold followed Lin Feng’s gaze.

He spotted a cage holding a dozen or so people.

From their build to their features, there was no mistaking they were Kovaloans.

But Reynold couldn’t figure out why Lin Feng was detaining his own citizens.

Right as he started to ask,

One of the prisoners inside lifted their head.

And Reynold nearly jumped out of his skin.

What kind of face was that?

There was no sign of pupils in those eyes—just a sheet of milky white. Thick bundles of nerves bulged around both eyes.

Every prisoner’s hair was stark white.

It wasn’t as if Kovaloans never had white hair, or that it only came with age.

Some were born with it, some went white in old age.

That part really wasn’t much different from humans.

But all these people—no matter how startling they looked—were obviously quite young.

    He was sure of it.

But could they really all be born with white hair? That would be stretching it.

Along with those changes on their faces, Reynold felt a deep sense of dread, certain something was terribly wrong.

“After we destroyed their fleet, nearly a million civilian ships on Tira launched at the same time, coming at us from all sides, trying to ram our ships and drag us down with them.”

“At first, I thought they were some kind of suicide squad, but when we pulled some people off one of those ships…”

With those words, Lin Feng turned toward the cage.

The hair on Reynold’s arms stood straight up.

    “General Lin, are you saying…”

    “That it was them?”

Lin Feng gave a small nod.

    Chapter Summary

Lin Feng faces a sudden threat as over a million ships launch toward his fleet, prompting swift action. After defeating the enemy warships and capturing several suspicious Kovaloans from a disabled vessel, Lin Feng returns to the Kovalo Federation's capital and meets Reynold. While debriefing, Reynold is shocked to discover that the prisoners, though clearly Kovaloan, display bizarre white eyes and hair. Lin Feng reveals that these altered Kovaloans were found piloting the civilian ships, raising alarming questions about what has happened on Tira.
