Chapter Index

“Qingxue, what are you talking about?”

Ye Lingwei stared, completely thrown off.

“Something about your grandfather’s proposal, something about showing up right now, and you’d just agree…”

    She was totally lost.

“Oh, that? Guess it doesn’t matter anymore since time’s almost up. May as well tell you.”

“A month ago, Grandpa reached out to me. He said I’m not young anymore and wanted to arrange a marriage for me after the war. I flat-out refused.”

“But then he said the candidate was someone all the old guys agreed on. That got me curious, so I asked who could possibly get the blessing of all three leaders of the Federation Fleet.”

    “Guess what I heard? Pfft…”

At that, Mu Qingxue couldn’t help but laugh.

“What on earth did I just hear?”

“You two! Not inviting me to talk about something like this?”

Just then, Serena showed up out of nowhere.

The three of them were the best of friends—calling each other sisters wouldn’t even be a stretch.

Besides, everyone understood that even if the 147th Heavy Battalion held the line, the Klein would send more assault corvettes.

At best, they were staving off the inevitable.

Mu Qingxue had already made up her mind—if the corridor fell, she’d trigger Qiongxiao’s self-destruct immediately.

Since there wasn’t much time left anyway, the whole bridge had actually relaxed a little.

Seeing the other two whispering, Serena just abandoned her station and hurried over.

    Mu Qingxue didn’t mind.

With so little time left in her life, one more person knowing her secret meant nothing.

Right then, Ye Lingwei seemed to remember something. Her eyes went wide in shock.

“Qingxue, don’t tell me it’s that kid?”

“Knew you’d guess it! That’s right, it’s him!”

“Seriously? I’m surprised Admiral Mu even considered it. And the other two actually agreed?”

She’d guessed it, but Ye Lingwei was still stunned.

After all, those three represented the interests of the old major powers.

And Mu Qingxue was the first human ever born with over 25% brain development.

There once was a truly gifted scientist in the Federation—she said…

If a person was ever born with over 25% innate brain development, that would truly launch the second evolution of humanity.

But when Mu Qingxue’s test at age 18 showed 27%, that scientist was already missing—vanished without a trace.

The Federation scoured the entire Solar System with no luck.

No one had a clue how to actually start humanity’s next leap with Mu Qingxue’s emergence.

But whatever the case, Mu Qingxue’s importance to all humanity was beyond words.

The three major powers all wanted Mu Qingxue joined with someone from their side. Even with the Federation formed, those old interests never really faded.

That’s exactly why Ye Lingwei was so shocked—all three actually settled on that kid.

If those two really got together, wouldn’t that be a win for Huaxia?

Both of them were Huaxia, after all.

And the other two leaders still agreed to this?

“Yeah. Seems like everyone believes our pairing is the key that could unlock the next human evolution.”

    “That explains it…”

With that, Ye Lingwei finally understood why the other two leaders hadn’t objected this time.

If this union really would trigger humanity’s second leap forward…

She didn’t even dare imagine what that would mean.

“Wait, who ARE you even talking about?”

    Serena looked totally lost.

“Who else could it be? Think—have you ever seen anyone crazier than Qingxue? If you have, it’s him!”

“More of a freak than Qingxue? Someone like that can’t… wait, don’t tell me—it’s HIM?”

Serena was about to say no such person existed, but a certain someone’s jaw-dropping feats flashed through her mind. He was even more outrageous than Mu Qingxue. Her face changed instantly.

“Qingxue, since we’re running out of time anyway, can you tell me what that guy’s innate brain development actually is?”

“I always figured it was over 25%, but…”

Ye Lingwei’s curiosity was killing her.

To outshine Mu Qingxue, just how high was his percentage?

“Yeah! I’m dying to know too!”

Serena nodded eagerly, wide-eyed with curiosity—a total contrast to her usual big-sister vibe.

    “Thirty-two percent. Actually, it’s 32.98%. Just a hair short of thirty-three!”

    “Hiss…!” x 2

    “Holy crap!” x 2

Both ladies blurted out in sync.

Their reaction was so over the top, it drew stares from all two hundred people on the bridge.

Mu Qingxue’s face instantly flushed red.

“Could you two NOT react like that?”

“Sorry, sorry. But, Qingxue—if that guy suddenly showed up and rescued you…”

    “Cut it out! Keep dreaming!”

Mu Qingxue shot Ye Lingwei a glare.

“No, seriously, I mean IF. Look, we’re almost out of time. Can’t we at least talk about this?”

“Sigh… If he really showed up now and saved us from certain doom, and he wanted me, I’d give myself to him without hesitation. But sadly… that’s just—”

    She never finished the sentence.

Suddenly, deep blue light poured in through the portholes, lighting up the whole bridge.

Outside, thousands of blue beams streaked across space, tearing straight through the Klein warships.

    Everyone was absolutely stunned.

Especially the three at the captain’s chair…

“Qingxue… if I’m not seeing things, those were ion beams—heavy ion beams, and thousands at once. That’s…”

Ye Lingwei could barely get the words out.

    Mu Qingxue was equally baffled.

She and Ye Lingwei both recognized what had just hit.

The only ones in the Federation capable of firing thousands of heavy ion cannons at once were the Zhulong and the eighteen new Zhulong-class warships.

And the only one commanding all nineteen ships… was Lin Yu, no question.

So, the one attacking the Klein Fleet right now…

    Was it Lin Yu?

“So, about what you said before—does it still count?”

Ye Lingwei seized the moment and twisted the knife with a perfectly timed question.

Serena, catching on, turned to Mu Qingxue with eager eyes.

    “I…”
