Chapter Index

Park Dong-su had finished all the preparations and was talking with Lee Sang-geun, waiting for Kim Mu-hyeok’s order.

    “Sang-geun.”

    “Yes, hyung.”

“Once this is over, it’s your turn to take over the company. Got it?”

    “Hyung!”

Lee Sang-geun was shocked by Park Dong-su’s sudden words.

“What are you talking about? You have to stay. I can only run the company because you’re behind me, hyung.”

“No, you’ll manage fine on your own. I’ve held on only to avenge Suhyeong.”

Before Lee Sang-geun could respond, Park Dong-su’s phone rang.

After a brief call, Park Dong-su stood up.

    “It’s time. Let’s go, Sang-geun.”

    “Yes, hyung.”

There was so much more he wanted to say, but now wasn’t the time.

When Lee Sang-geun turned, his gaze had hardened.

He shouted to the Dong-soo faction members gathered nearby.

“Let’s move! After tonight, we won’t have to do this anymore. Treat this like the last job—don’t hold back. We can’t let these bastards take our turf!”

The gang members quickly boarded the dozens of vehicles that had been prepared.

Somewhere near Seoul. The land was eerily empty, with scattered houses but no signs of life.

In the center of the village stood a mysterious building—Watanabe’s hideout and the Dong-soo faction’s target.

By the time they arrived, night had already fallen.

    “Ram it.”

Park Dong-su’s voice was low and calm.

Lee Sang-geun yelled toward the dump truck at the back.

    “Ram it! Clear the entrance!”

The truck roared to life and accelerated.

    BANG!

With a deafening crash, the truck smashed straight into the entrance of the building.

The sound reverberated through the entire village.

The truck tore through the entrance, pushing its way inside the building.

    “Move in!”

The gangsters surged toward the entrance. The following cars surrounded the building, making sure no one could escape.

Only Park Dong-su got out of his car slowly, a cigarette between his lips.

“…Suhyeong, wait for me. Got it?”

Muttering to himself, Park Dong-su flicked his half-burnt cigarette into the air and began walking toward the entrance.

Meanwhile, inside the building, Watanabe, who had been discussing strategy with his subordinates, scowled at the sudden noise and the growing commotion outside.

    Someone rushed in, shouting.

“We’re under attack! We’re outnumbered! You need to evacuate!”

“Evacuate? Hold them off! Call Lee Yong-hyun for reinforcements! Stop them at all costs!”

    “Yes, sir!”

The recent negative public sentiment against the Cheongpung Group and Japan had caused them to spread out their forces, which was a mistake.

Watanabe never imagined that Mu-hyeok could have influenced the division of his organization. He had no idea how the information about this hideout had leaked.

“Hah, my father put too much faith in the Cheongpung Group. They’re just a bunch of Koreans… Damn it!”

Rising from his seat, Watanabe pulled back the curtains and looked outside.

“There are more of them than I thought.”

“Sir, I really think you should evacuate.”

At his secretary’s suggestion, Watanabe shook his head.

“If we lose here, we won’t be able to operate in Korea anymore. Contact the police and the Japanese embassy. Hold out as long as you can.”

    “Understood.”

Watanabe had decided to rely on the authorities.

While his secretary made the calls, the two groups clashed outside.

“Do you even know where you are?!”

“What’s that Japanese bastard mumbling about? Kill them all!”

Though the Yakuza fought back fiercely, they were outnumbered.

The tide was turning in favor of the Dong-soo faction.

However, the Yakuza were playing defensively, clearly stalling for time, and the Dong-soo faction was struggling to advance deeper into the building.

    “Hyung, let’s go inside.”

Finally, as a path cleared, Park Dong-su, Lee Sang-geun, and Yang Suhyeong’s men entered the building’s interior.

About ten Yakuza, all armed with sharp sashimi knives, blocked the corridor.

    Yang Suhyeong’s men stepped forward.

“This is Suhyeong’s revenge. We’ll handle it ourselves. Think of this as your last stand, and fight!”

    One of them shouted fiercely.

Yang Suhyeong’s men, eyes blazing, charged at the Yakuza.

The Yakuza held their ground but were eventually overwhelmed by the Dong-soo faction’s numbers.

Still, many of Yang Suhyeong’s men were badly injured.

“Those who can still move, follow me.”

Park Dong-su led the remaining able-bodied men up the stairs.

At last, they arrived at the door of the innermost room.

Standing before Watanabe’s room, Park Dong-su glanced at Lee Sang-geun. Nodding, Lee Sang-geun drew a sashimi knife from his leg and kicked the door open.

Inside, Watanabe and two secretaries were glaring at the entrance, their faces stiff.

A smug smile flickered across Park Dong-su’s face.

“So, you’re the Watanabe bastard, huh?”

Watanabe shouted something angrily in Japanese, but it fell on deaf ears.

“What’s he saying? I don’t speak Japanese. Not that it matters. You’re about to die anyway.”

Watanabe, his face flushed with rage, switched to Korean.

    “You filthy Korean!”

    “Oh? You speak Korean?”

“The police and the embassy will be here soon. Then, you’re finished…”

“Who do you think will be faster? The police or the blade I’m about to shove into your gut?”

With a grin, Park Dong-su pulled out a knife from his jacket in front of his men.

“I’ll deal with Watanabe. You guys handle the rest.”

    “Yes, hyung.”

Without warning, Park Dong-su twirled the knife in his hand and lunged at Watanabe.

One of Watanabe’s secretaries stepped forward to block him.

“Hah, you’re going to die anyway. Why bother?”

Ignoring the secretary’s blade, Park Dong-su twisted his body and charged straight at Watanabe.

Behind him, Lee Sang-geun tackled the secretary, but not before the blade grazed Park Dong-su’s arm.

    Blood sprayed into the air.

But Park Dong-su didn’t even flinch, his eyes locked on Watanabe.

“Get ready to feel it, you Japanese bastard.”

He bared his teeth in a smile.

    Watanabe’s gaze wavered.

    “You… you madman… stay back!”

    BANG!

The acrid smell of gunpowder filled the room.

Lee Sang-geun, who had been fighting off the secretary, spun around in alarm.

    “Hyung!”

Blood was spurting from Park Dong-su’s left arm.

Smoke was rising from the gun in Watanabe’s trembling hands.

    “Stay back!”

“Ah… shit, a gun? That’s cheating, man. You should’ve at least turned on your hazard lights.”

Watanabe’s hands trembled as he clutched the gun.

Though born into the Yakuza, Watanabe had been raised more like a businessman. He had never faced a blade in his life.

Blood poured down Park Dong-su’s clothes in an instant.

Still keeping an eye on the secretary, Lee Sang-geun shouted.

    “Hyung! Are you okay?”

    Park Dong-su shook his head.

“Do I look okay? I’ll finish this. Stay out of it.”

Despite his injury, Park Dong-su charged again. A split second later, another gunshot rang out.

But by then, Park Dong-su’s blade had already plunged into Watanabe’s stomach.

    “Ugh…”

“My brother’s gut got blown open, too. How does it taste? You should try it.”

Bright red blood splattered across the white floor of the office.

But Park Dong-su didn’t stop. He stabbed Watanabe over and over again in the stomach.

Watanabe’s eyes rolled back, and his gun clattered to the floor.

    “Hyung! He’s dead. Stop!”

Lee Sang-geun grabbed Park Dong-su’s arm, trying to stop him.

Tears had welled up in Park Dong-su’s eyes.

    “Sang-geun… it hurts like hell.”

Blood was pouring from Park Dong-su’s abdomen.

It was only then that Lee Sang-geun noticed. He screamed.

    “Hyung!”

“The cops and the embassy will be here soon. Just clean up and get out.”

    “Hyung.”

“This is it, Sang-geun. It’s the end.”

Park Dong-su’s voice had the weight of someone who had already accepted death. Lee Sang-geun bit his lip hard.

“You’ve gone through a lot because of me. Now, it’s your turn.”

    “Hyung.”

“Someone has to clean up the mess. Take whoever can still move and get out of here.”

    “I refuse.”

“You stubborn bastard… You never listen, do you? Neither did Suhyeong. You both never listen. If you die too, what’ll happen to your kid?”

    “…”

“Go. I’m going to rest now.”

    Park Dong-su’s voice grew weaker.

“We’ll take you with us, hyung. Let’s go.”

Yang Suhyeong’s bloodied men forcibly dragged Lee Sang-geun out of the room and blocked the door.

    “Dong-su hyung!”

Lee Sang-geun’s cries echoed from outside the door.

    The sound gradually faded away.

Staggering, Park Dong-su collapsed onto the floor and pulled out his mobile phone.

    * * *

    The monotonous ringtone echoed.

In a car a little ways away from Lee Yong-hyun’s mansion.

Kim Mu-hyeok pulled out his phon from his jacket pocket.

    “This is Kim Mu-hyeok.”

    ― It’s me. Watanabe’s dead.

“Good work. Pull out as fast as you can. I’ll handle the cleanup.”

― Hey, little bro! Remember when we first met on the hospital roof? You were just a kid, your eyes all wide, calling me ‘Uncle, Uncle.’

“Save the reminiscing for later. Get out of there first.”

― Haha, it’s funny… You and the others, damn it, none of you ever listen.

    “Boss?”

Park Dong-su chuckled, but his voice was weak.

Kim Mu-hyeok frowned as he realied the change in Park Dong-su’s tone.

    “Boss?”

― I’ll take all the blame for this. You go live your life, do whatever you want. I’m sorry, little bro.”

“What are you talking about? I’ll handle the cleanup. Get out of there now.”

    ― Heh… crazy bastard…”

The faint noise from the other end of the line slowly faded.

    “Boss.”

    ― …

Kim Mu-hyeok’s grip on the phonetightened until his knuckles turned white.

    “Boss, what’s going on?”

Manager Ma asked, but Kim Mu-hyeok just stared at the ilent phone.

    “Boss!”

Manager Ma called again, and only then did Kim Mu-hyeok look up.

“…It was a call from the boss.”

Kim Mu-hyeok ended the call thathad been going on in vain.

Manager Ma asked no further questions.

From Yong-hyun’s mansion came alternating screams and shouts.

“Let’s focus here. Mr. Park’s taken care of Watanabe. Once we finish here, it’s over.”

    “Yes, boss.”

    BANG! BANG! BANG!

At that moment, gunshots rang out from the hill overlooking the mansion.

At the same time, gunfire erupted from within the mansion.

“Things are about to get messy.”

The gunshots meant that the other side had drawn their weapons first. That was the signal for the ambush team to begin their attack.

‘So much for a quiet operation.’

    Kim Mu-hyeok grimaced.

The gunfire soon died down, and a few minutes later, one of Oliver’s team members ran over to report.

    “We’ve secured the area.”

    “I heard gunshots. What happened?”

“They pulled a gun first. Our ambush team responded, and we returned fire.”

    “Any casualties?”

“Our team’s fine, but a few of theirs were hit.”

Kim Mu-hyeok turned to Manager M.

“Get the wounded to the hospital quickly. If it’s our own clinic, we can keep the gunshot wounds under wraps for now.”

    “Understood.”

    “What about Lee Yong-hyun?”

    “The target’s been secured.”

The team member led the way into Lee Yong-hyun’s mansion. Kim Mu-hyeok and Manager Ma follwed slowly behind.

    ‘The gunfire was pretty loud…’

Thankfully, the mansion was in a remote area, so no one had come, but someone nearby might have heard the shots.

‘Lee Yong-hyun… Let’s see what kind of man you really are.’

Kim Mu-hyeok passed the bloodstaned courtyard and entered the mansion.

The house was a mess, muddy footprints and blood covering the floors.

Lee Yong-hyun was in a separate two-story building, unlike the others. Oliver’s team was guarding the area.

    “Boss, is this him?”

Oliver yanked up Lee Yong-hyun’s head by the hair.

Kim Mu-hyeok confirmed the face rom a photo.

    “Yes, that’s him.”

    Kim Mu-hyeok approached Lee Yonghyun.

“Nice to meet you. I’m Kim Mu-hyeok.”

Lee Yong-hyun’s face was covered in blood from a beating, but his eyes still held defiance.

“Pleasure to meet you. I’m Lee Yong-hyun.”

    His voice trembled slightly.

“I’m the one who’s going to kill you. Do you really mean that?”

    Kim Mu-hyeok’s smile vanished.
