Chapter 568: Turning the Tide with Fury and Light
by xennovelWith the Sawtooth King Bug returning, the three Unmoving Vajra dreadnoughts were forced to switch targets.
Just like that, the battlefield tipped against the Song Family once more.
The Ancient Broodmother, cunning as ever, immediately sensed the shift and wasted no time. She unleashed another power, hoping to wipe out the Song Family’s six warships in one single push.
As the highest-tier mother among the Sea of Stars’ insect race, the Ancient Broodmother boasted no shortage of innate abilities.
Beyond her incredible mental might and unrivaled fertility, she held absolute control over all brood she personally birthed.
Spotting the Unmoving Vajra dreadnoughts as the weakest link in the Song Family’s defenses, the freshly returned Sawtooth King Bug began surging with energy, its power spiking like a tidal wave.
Its layered compound eyes turned a blood-red, and the already formidable Dominion Power within its body exploded, growing severalfold in mere moments.
Whoosh!
Wings harder than any top-tier alloy split into countless shimmering afterimages, slashing relentlessly at the hulls of the Unmoving Vajra and the other two Song Family dreadnoughts.
In the blink of an eye, the three dreadnoughts’ hulls had already taken more than fifty percent damage.
At this rate, even with repair modules on board, they wouldn’t be able to hold out much longer.
“The Ancient Broodmother’s forced the Sawtooth King Bug into a berserk rampage!”
Song Chi and his allies quickly realized what was happening—and how badly things had turned against them.
This special berserk state from the Ancient Broodmother came at a steep cost to her brood’s lifespan, but the raw boost was undeniable. The Sawtooth King Bug’s fighting power soared by several times in an instant, and the mounting pressure on the Prime Ancestor’s trio was crushing.
Inside the Heavenly Ruin’s control room, Song Chi’s mind raced for a solution.
Suddenly, his eyes lit up as he turned to a component they hadn’t used in ages—the Feathered Deployment Platform.
……
Clang!
[Warning: External attack detected. Hull armor at 80% damage, overall hull at 46% damage. Immediate repairs required!]
Gritting through another furious slash from the berserk Sawtooth King Bug, the Unmoving Vajra’s hull armor was now on the brink of shattering.
Activating a red repair module with a thought, Song Shiyuan bumped the hull armor back to only 40% damaged and overall hull to 31%. Still, his mind spun through options at lightning speed.
“It’s too agile. We’ve got to restrain the Sawtooth King Bug for at least one or two seconds if we want any hope of a counterattack!”
Before he even finished his thought in the warship’s comms channel, Song Xingru shot back a reply.
“Let me try. The Violet Moon Longsong has a silver Bio-Magnetic Lock component. If the Sawtooth King Bug makes direct contact with the hull, it should pin it for one second. Watch for the signal, and strike!”
“No way. Your armor’s defense trait is already active. If we unleash our attack full force, it’ll sweep you up too, and without that armor’s protection, your ship won’t survive!”
As they argued, a ripple of space energy suddenly flared on the flank of the battlefield.
Song Shiyuan, a master of the Law of Space, caught it instantly. Out of the corner of his eye he spotted the source, and a moment later, a glimmer of hope sparked in his expression.
“That berserk, sixth-tier Doomstar—a distraction from Xiaochi to help us.”
Even as he spoke, the Doomstar race minion launched through the rift swelled in size, its intimidating aura pressing down on all three dreadnoughts—nearly at pseudo-seventh tier.
“Under the Enslave Seal: Berserk, the Doomstar’s only pseudo-seventh tier, nowhere near the Sawtooth King Bug’s current power. Still, with it shielding us, our pressure’s eased a ton.”
“Xiaochi, have the Doomstar hold off the Sawtooth King Bug for two seconds if possible!”
Through the comm module, Song Shiyuan relayed a message straight to Song Chi.
Realizing the Prime Ancestor’s intent, Song Chi wasted no time giving the order.
Vmmm! The battlefield above flashed with starlight as the void split open and a sizable Deathstar Projection burst from the tear.
Under the projection’s sinister glow, the Sawtooth King Bug’s ghostly speed slowed just a bit, while the Doomstar’s Dominion Power grew denser and its movements quickened.
Yet it still wasn’t enough—the gap between their speeds was too wide to bridge with a single Deathstar Projection.
“Shixing!”
Song Shiyuan barked the call. Understanding immediately, Song Shixing’s mind snapped to focus.
Prism Mirror: Immobilization Beam!
A faint gleam fired from the Calm-Sea Rising Dragon, shooting straight at the rampaging Sawtooth King Bug. Sadly, the Prism Mirror was only a red-grade component—woefully weak against a berserk king.
Sure enough, the immobilization effect lasted but a split second—nowhere near long enough for the Unmoving Vajra to strike.
If Song Shixing hadn’t trained in the Law of Light, even that instant would’ve been impossible.
A blink wasn’t enough for Song Shiyuan to fire, but to the pseudo-seventh-tier Doomstar, it was all it needed.
Taking its chance, the Doomstar blazed with starlight and shot toward the Sawtooth King Bug like a living cannonball. When it drew close, its arm—wreathed in blood-red steam—clamped onto one of the bug’s razor-sharp wings.
Dominion Power clashed in a storm that shook the Floating-Land Sky Vault. Blood drenched the Doomstar’s palm as the wing sliced through its grip.
Yet bound by Song Chi’s command, the Doomstar held on, refusing to let go no matter the agony. For several seconds, it pinned the Sawtooth King Bug in place. Hisssss!
With a furious shriek, mandibles wide, the Sawtooth King Bug let the world know its rage.
That was the opening Song Shiyuan had waited for. He activated the Flash-displacement Component, and in an instant, the Unmoving Vajra jumped from hundreds of thousands of kilometers away to right in front of the Sawtooth King Bug.
The ship’s prow aimed straight at the creature’s gaping, savage maw.
In the control room, Song Shiyuan’s stare was icy. Without hesitation, he punched the command for the fully charged golden module.
“Star Annihilator’s Wrath—fire!”
A blast from the converted Star‑Annihilator Cannon roared out from the Unmoving Vajra’s prow, shooting that apocalyptic beam deep into the bug’s open mouth.
Boom!
The resulting shockwave spread like a tsunami. Caught at ground zero, the Sawtooth King Bug, Doomstar, and Unmoving Vajra were all swallowed by the explosion.
“Shiyuan!”
Far off, Song Xingru and Song Shixing cried out in alarm, worry stark in their eyes.
As the shockwave faded and space calmed, the Unmoving Vajra reappeared via another blink.
Now, though, the dreadnought was in shambles. Its shields were blown out, hull armor over ninety percent destroyed, and even the main structure was seventy-two percent damaged—one tiny step from being irreparably crippled.
But the result couldn’t have been better. Against all odds, the Unmoving Vajra survived.
Off in the distance, the Sawtooth King Bug had taken the brunt of the explosion right in its mouth. Nearly half its skull was gone, its abdomen torn open and bloodied—a ghastly sight.
Now, as long as they kept it pressured, its wounds would only worsen. Barring an unlikely mishap, the outcome of this battle was all but set.
Seeing this, a grin flashed in Song Shiyuan’s eyes.
He was clearly thrilled with how things turned out.
Truth be told, he’d never been certain. He only dared attempt this crazy gamble because he was confident in his own escape.
With a Level 70 Solarflame Shield and a backup red repair module on hand, he knew the Unmoving Vajra could weather the blast.
But as for whether the Sawtooth King Bug would survive—he’d had no idea. After all, it had reached the peak of seventh-tier power.
Given how it ended up, this was practically the best possible result.
Inside the Samsara Time Domain, Song Chi finally relaxed as he confirmed the Sawtooth King Bug’s heavy injuries. The Doomstar’s sacrifice in the explosion didn’t faze him at all.
His gaze dropped, shifting back to the Ancient Broodmother below.
“Trying to trigger another berserk transformation, are you…?”
Eyeing the surging life energy gathering above the Ancient Broodmother’s head, Song Chi’s look hardened.
Off to the side, Clan Elder Song Wujian noticed the same.
In the Calm-Sea Dragon-Xiang’s control room, Song Wujian fixed his gaze on a golden component.
Void Exiler—Void Exile, engaged.
Golden light exploded in the control room as space power poured from the warship and swallowed the enemy king bug.
Space tore apart, and a massive rift slowly appeared. Soon, the king bug was forcibly banished into its depths.
No matter how it struggled, it couldn’t stop the rift from healing over. Once the fissure finally closed, the king bug had vanished—completely exiled to the void.
Of course, this banishment wouldn’t last forever. With its mighty power, the king bug would fight its way out eventually.
But Song Wujian couldn’t spare a thought for that right now. The Calm-Sea Dragon-Xiang’s engines thundered as it dove straight for the Ancient Broodmother below.
Space flickered, and when the Star-Annihilator-class ship reappeared, it was hovering above the Broodmother’s head.
A beam of annihilating light built to its peak, then burst down toward the Ancient Broodmother.
Song Wujian’s intent was clear—break the Broodmother’s ability to unleash a second berserk. But he moved too late.
The annihilation beam hit, exploding above the Broodmother’s head, yet her second berserk was already underway.
Inside the Samsara Time Domain, Song Chi scanned his surroundings.
“Nothing left… could it be…?”
He looked toward the spot where the king bug had been banished by the Calm-Sea Dragon-Xiang.
