Chapter Index

Huo Xiao is a student at Jiangzhou Art Institute majoring in music.

During the two days of her kidnapping Huo Ying helped her take leave from school.

Now that she’s safe it’s time for her to return to school.

    “Mom I’m going to school.”

After greeting her mom Huo Xiao headed out.

    “Honk honk honk—”

Just as she walked out of the community she heard a horn.

Looking in the direction of the sound she saw Xu Shaochen leaning against his car waving at her.

    “My mom is still sleeping.”

Huo Xiao thought he came for her mom and casually remarked.

“I came specifically to pick you up get in I’ll drive you to school.”

Xu Shaochen said his gaze lingering on Huo Xiao’s long legs.

Today Huo Xiao wore a black short skirt. Her face aside her upper body wasn’t much to look at. The main appeal was her long legs accentuated by black stockings and high heels.

Huo Xiao hesitated for a moment then opened the car door and got in.

“What’s going on showing up early and being so eager either a traitor or a thief.”

In the car Huo Xiao eyed Xu Shaochen warily: “Are you trying to seduce my mom and now me?”

“Am I that kind of person?” Xu Shaochen’s face darkened did he really look that shameless? Huo Xiao seriously nodded: “You rich second generations love these perverted games calling them thrilling.”

“Cough cough cough…” Xu Shaochen was choked by Huo Xiao’s audacity. “Why do you think so much? I’m here to ask you a question.”

“What question?” Huo Xiao looked at Xu Shaochen.

Admittedly he did look quite decent it’s no wonder he had her mom wrapped around his finger.

Xu Shaochen chose his words carefully: “Xiaoxiao you don’t look much like Sister Ying.”

“You’re talking about that? I’m not her biological daughter she’s my godmother but I’ve always considered her my real mom.” Huo Xiao said nonchalantly.

Xu Shaochen was taken aback: “Not biological?”

No wonder Huo Ying had such a grown daughter in her thirties she wasn’t her real mom after all.

“Yes my biological parents were friends with my godmother. Later my parents had a plane crash and I’ve been raised by my godmother since I was young.”

“Because she adopted me her boyfriend at the time broke up with her so she never dated again focusing on raising me.”

At this Huo Xiao’s eyes grew fierce warning Xu Shaochen: “So I’m telling you she can dump you but if you dare dump her I’ll never forgive you.”

As she spoke she shook her little fist it looked more like she was pouting than threatening.

Xu Shaochen nodded in realization his gaze sweeping over Huo Xiao’s chest: “No wonder you don’t look like your mom.”

    “Go to hell.”

Huo Xiao glanced down at her flat chest her face turning red with anger.

It’s her eternal struggle no matter what she eats she just can’t gain any size it’s frustrating.

“So I’m your godfather?” Xu Shaochen jokingly asked.

    “Get lost!”

Huo Xiao cursed. The terms godfather and goddaughter have been spoiled in the 21st century.

Xu Shaochen’s face darkened taking out his phone: “Is this how you talk to your dad? Want me to tell your mom?”

“You’re so boring dad your daughter is wrong okay?”

Huo Xiao rolled her eyes. It was becoming easier to call him dad.

“That’s more like it in a few days your dad’s twenty-fifth birthday come with your mom to celebrate.”

Xu Shaochen nodded in satisfaction gently patting his well-behaved daughter’s head.

Huo Xiao’s eyes widened in disbelief: “Your twenty-fifth birthday and you have to celebrate grandly?”

“It’s not about age it’s about status.”

Xu Shaochen adjusted his collar with a smug look.

    “Pfft—”

Huo Xiao couldn’t help but laugh: “You have status? If not for being a rich second-generation with good nutrition you wouldn’t even have height.”

    “We’re here get off.”

Xu Shaochen lost the desire to continue the conversation.

Long Yi parked the car and Huo Xiao casually opened the door and got out.

After getting out she realized something wasn’t right. She wasn’t at school this intersection was at least ten minutes away by car.

She wanted to open the door and get back in but the car quickly sped off.

“Dear daughter walking more helps your growth I have to get back to the office now goodbye hahaha…”

Xu Shaochen waved at her with a smile from the car window.

    “Xu you bastard! Damn you!”

Huo Xiao realized she’d been tricked. She tried chasing the car for a few steps but couldn’t catch up cursing loudly.

All that trouble enduring disgust only to call him dad so many times.

Is this what you call setting up your daughter?

    ……………………

    In the afternoon.

Xu Shaochen was in the Tianyu Group office handling work.

Unexpectedly he received a call from the police station.

They said Huo Chuan was clamoring to see him.

Under Xu Shaochen’s instruction the police hadn’t notified Huo Chuan’s father.

So Huo Shen still didn’t know his son was arrested last night.

At the police station Huo Chuan was utterly helpless despite the undeniable video evidence even silence could convict him.

Feeling desperate he could only rely on self-help.

His hope lay with Xu Shaochen.

Half an hour later Xu Shaochen met Huo Chuan at the station.

Just one night and Huo Chuan’s hair was a mess his eyes sunken and red. He was a far cry from his air travel days.

“Young Master Huo what advice do you have for me?”

Xu Shaochen smiled at him recalling a poem he learned in school.

    Homesickness.

He now wanted to add another line.

Homesickness is you in jail and me outside.

“I’ll agree to any condition just get me out.”

    Huo Chuan croaked.

“Young Master Huo you’re asking too much your crimes alone could keep you here for life. What could I possibly do? If you’re just here to say nonsense don’t waste my time.”

Xu Shaochen shook his head speaking slowly.

“Then why’d you come to see me?”

Huo Chuan’s emotions turned tumultuous. He thought Xu Shaochen’s visit meant there was still hope.

Xu Shaochen leaned close to the bars grinning: “Why did I come? To see you in this pitiful state.”

    “You’re bullying me too much!”

Huo Chuan’s face went pale then flushed biting back tears a bit of blood spilled from his mouth.

Once again driven to spitting blood.
