Chapter Index

    Morning.

Xu Shaochen woke up in the embrace of warmth.

Turning his head, he could see Ye Ling’s delicate profile and the hickeys he had left on her neck from the previous night.

Instinctively, he picked up the phone from the bedside table.

It’s the first thing many people do after getting up in the morning.

He opened WeChat, first checking the Moments.

Huo Xiao posted: High fever 39.5, sob sob, so miserable.

Xu Shaochen commented: Incredible, my highest record is only 38.3 degrees.

    Huo Xiao: “……….”

Shouldn’t you comfort me first? Xu Shaochen got up quietly without waking Ye Ling, preparing to check on his feverish daughter.

After washing up, Xu Shaochen left and called Huo Xiao from the car.

    “Little dad.”

Huo Xiao’s slightly weak voice came from the phone.

    “At home or the hospital?”

    Xu Shaochen asked.

“At home. Are you coming to see me?”

    Huo Xiao’s tone became enthusiastic.

“No, I’m just curious about what touching a woman with a 39.5 fever feels like.”

Xu Shaochen joked as he instructed Long Yi to go to Huo Ying’s home.

    “Get lost.”

Huo Xiao shouted angrily and hung up.

Half an hour later, Xu Shaochen arrived at Huo Ying’s home.

Huo Ying opened the door for him. With Huo Xiao’s fever, Huo Ying naturally stayed home to care for her.

“You’re here. Xiaoxiao is in the bedroom. Go see her, I’ll get you some fruit.”

Huo Ying spoke softly, resembling a gentle and virtuous wife, taking Xu Shaochen’s coat.

    “Okay.”

    “Slap!”

Xu Shaochen nodded, casually patting the curve beneath her skirt. Very bouncy.

Huo Ying glared at him playfully, then swayed her slender waist into the kitchen.

Xu Shaochen entered Huo Xiao’s bedroom and closed the door.

He saw Huo Xiao lying in bed, looking a little pale.

Xu Shaochen touched her forehead, “Why didn’t you go to the hospital?”

A fever can be dangerous. Many cases have turned serious due to neglect.

For instance, there are cases where a high fever caused brain damage or blindness from just one episode.

So, a small reminder to readers: even minor illnesses should be addressed promptly to avoid worsening.

“I went, got an IV last night. I feel better now, the temperature is dropping.”

    Huo Xiao replied.

    “What caused the sudden fever?”

Xu Shaochen sat on her bed’s edge, curious.

Huo Xiao’s face turned red: “I stayed at Xiaoya’s house last night, and she kicked the covers off and gave me a cold.”

“Is that so?” Xu Shaochen was skeptical. Why’s your face red?

    “Mhm, mhm, mhm.”

Huo Xiao nodded like a pecking chick, her small hands sweating beneath the covers.

She couldn’t admit that she and Bai Ya tried some video stunts and caught a cold instead.

    “Foot wasn’t covered.”

    “Creak—”

As the door opened, Huo Ying entered with fruit.

Xu Shaochen and Huo Xiao quickly retracted their hands and feet.

    “Have some fruit.”

Huo Ying didn’t notice anything unusual between them.

Xu Shaochen, however, felt guilty, glancing at Huo Xiao, relieved she wasn’t about to tell. He secretly exhaled in relief.

“Sister Ying, no trouble, I’ll just sit a bit and leave, work stuff.”

Xu Shaochen, a seasoned driver, calmed down and maintained a normal appearance.

Huo Xiao pouted and kicked Xu Shaochen under the blanket, occupying others’ time, a scoundrel.

“Why rush off? Chat, while I wash the morning dishes.”

Huo Ying said, leaving the room.

    “Little dad, was that comfortable?”

Once Huo Ying left, Huo Xiao teasingly put her feet on Xu Shaochen’s legs.

“What nonsense is this? I’m just feeling if your feet are warm.”

Xu Shaochen spoke righteously, like a principled man.

Huo Xiao smirked, slipping her feet to Xu Shaochen’s belt: “Now, little dad?”

Xu Shaochen shivered, standing up quickly: “Huo Xiao, do you know what you’re doing?”

He felt she was tempting, no, seducing him.

“Of course, I know I also know what you want. I heard you and mom’s room talk that day, stop pretending.”

Huo Xiao, her face red, glared at Xu Shaochen, dismissing him.

Even Xu Shaochen blushed, leaving the room.

“I have things to do, leaving now.”

    “Bang!”

Watching the door close, Huo Xiao picked up the phone to message Bai Ya: Xiaoya, your method didn’t work. You claimed my legs and feet looked best, no reaction.

Bai Ya: Really? Might be he’s afraid of your mom. Try when she’s not around.

Huo Xiao: I can’t believe I listened to you, trying to seduce mom’s man.

Bai Ya: Hehe, it’s not like she’s your real mom. Besides, why listen if you didn’t want to?

“Sister Ying, I’m serious, I have to go, take care of Xiaoxiao.”

It took a while for Xu Shaochen to calm down, grabbing his coat from the sofa and saying to Huo Ying.

Although Huo Xiao wasn’t Huo Ying’s biological daughter, their bond was strong. If he lost control, Huo Ying would explode.

So Xu Shaochen silently reminded himself to keep his distance from Huo Xiao.

“Why rush? I’ll see you off.”

Huo Ying said, wiping her hands and tying her apron, coming from the kitchen.

Xu Shaochen opened the door to find a man about to knock.

They stared at each other, stunned.

    “Xiao Xu…”

As Huo Ying came behind to see, she too froze upon seeing the man at the door.
