Chapter 107: Etiquette Is Meant for People
by xennovelHearing Xu Shaochen’s words, Xu Ling’s arrogant smile froze.
She had intended to flaunt her superiority in front of Xu Shaochen but was stopped dead in her tracks by his sentence.
“Hmph! A top student? Yet all you do is tell people to get lost. Is this the so-called etiquette of a top student?”
Xu Ling sneered, crossing her arms as she spoke to Xu Shaochen with a sarcastic tone.
Xu Shaochen put down the mop in his hand and looked up at Xu Ling. “Etiquette is meant for people. Do I need to show etiquette to a dog? Isn’t that like casting pearls before swine?”
“You…” Xu Ling felt so furious that she could hardly breathe. She never imagined that the Xu Shaochen who once knelt at her family’s door, begging for money, would now dare to talk back so boldly.
“Lingling, is this the poor relative you mentioned?” The young man standing beside Xu Ling said haughtily as he embraced her, looking down on Xu Shaochen as if he were superior.
Xu Ling showed a mocking expression, curling her lips. “Isn’t it? He once came to my house to borrow money and shamelessly knelt down. Isn’t that hilarious?”
“A waste is always a waste. Why bother wasting time on him? Let’s go!”
The young man glanced disdainfully at Xu Shaochen, shaking his head in scorn.
“You’re right. Spending even a few minutes here with him means we’ll lose thousands of dollars!” Xu Ling exaggeratedly fanned herself with her hand, looking at Xu Shaochen with superiority. “Do you even know why we’re here? Forget it, you wouldn’t understand even if I explained it to you. No point wasting my breath.”
With that, Xu Ling clung to the young man’s arm and walked away proudly past Xu Shaochen.
Xu Shaochen watched them leave, a faint sneer spreading across his lips.
Two frogs at the bottom of a well, unaware of how vast the sky is.
After placing the mop back in the restroom, Xu Shaochen washed his hands. Instead of heading to the break room, he walked to his office.
Since the company’s renovation was completed, he hadn’t entered that chairperson’s office.
The office’s design and decor were all handled by Liu Rushuang. It was a good time to see how it turned out.
………
Meanwhile.
“This way, please.”
Liu Rushuang escorted Xu Ling and the young man into Xu Shaochen’s office.
“Thank you, Miss Liu.”
Faced with Liu Rushuang, both of them humbled themselves and acted with respect.
After all, they were here to discuss business with Chen Yu. If they could secure the deal, it would bring substantial revenue to their company.
“You came at the right time. Our Chairman is in the company today; he’ll meet with you shortly. Please wait here for a moment.”
Liu Rushuang smiled faintly at the two, then turned and left the office to go find Xu Shaochen in the break room.
The reason why Xu Shaochen was called over for this small company’s deal was that it could potentially be the first long-term contract signed with Chen Yu, which was significant.
As Liu Rushuang left the office, both of them sat upright and let out a long sigh of relief.
“Dear, I’m so nervous. If we secure this deal, our company will officially pass ten million in annual revenue!”
Xu Ling’s face flushed with excitement as she spoke to the young man at her side.
Initially, they had approached Chen Yu with a trial attitude, without expecting to be chosen.
But to their surprise, Chen Yu actually selected their company among so many.
The young man beside her wasn’t much better off, trying hard to suppress his excitement as he spoke in a trembling voice. “Baby, calm down. You must stay calm. Don’t lose your composure in front of the Chairman. We absolutely can’t miss this golden opportunity.”
“This is what a real company looks like. Look at this decor, and these items! Are they all genuine antiques?”
Xu Ling examined the office decor, her eyes filled with envy and admiration.
Though she and her boyfriend had started a company, it was nothing compared to the wealth and power of Chen Yu.
She couldn’t help but wonder what the Chairman of Chen Yu must be like.
“Click—”
At that moment, the office door opened.
Xu Ling and the young man reflexively stood up, wearing ingratiating smiles as they walked toward the door.
But just as they took a step forward, the smiles on their faces froze.
It wasn’t the Chairman of Chen Yu as they imagined, but the janitor, Xu Shaochen.
“What are you doing here?”
Xu Shaochen frowned as he looked at the two. Why were these two frogs in his office? “Shouldn’t we be asking you that? What gives you, a janitor, the right to be here? Do you know where you are? Do you think you belong here? Get out!”
Xu Ling snapped at Xu Shaochen, annoyed that their expressions had been wasted on him.
“Are you here to steal something? This is not a place where a janitor like you can just walk in. Believe it or not, we’ll tell your boss and have you fired! You don’t know your place!”
The young man echoed Xu Ling’s sentiment with a dark expression, pointing at Xu Shaochen and shouting insults.
“Interesting, really interesting. This is my office; why wouldn’t I be inside?”
Xu Shaochen almost laughed at the fools in front of him. Despite that, a cold glint in his eyes was growing stronger.
“What did you say? Hahaha, you’re joking, right? This is your office? You’re just a janitor and think you’re the Chairman?”
Xu Ling burst into laughter as if she had heard the funniest joke ever. Her eyes gleamed with contempt as she looked at Xu Shaochen.
“Be smart and get out right now. If your presence ruins our deal with Chen Yu, don’t blame me for being rude!”
The young man beside Xu Ling gritted his teeth as he looked at Xu Shaochen with a threatening expression.
“A deal? Don’t worry; you won’t be making any deals with Chen Yu. You can leave now.”
Xu Shaochen looked at them as if they were idiots. Wasn’t it laughable that they thought they were here to secure a deal with Chen Yu?
“Hmph! Whether there will be a deal or not isn’t up to you, a lowly janitor; that’s up to the boss. What do you think you are? In my eyes, you’re not even worth a fart!”
Xu Ling spoke to Xu Shaochen with undisguised disdain and mockery. A mere janitor dared to spout such nonsense; it was simply laughable.
She felt even more smug. So what if you got into a prestigious university? I didn’t even go to college, but now my boyfriend owns a company. And you? You’re just a janitor who can’t even afford to pay for your mother’s medical treatment. What a loser.
