Chapter Index

“If your dad really valued you, he’d keep you close and train you, not send you out to die.”

“Think hard. Are you the one doing all the work while others idle by your dad’s side?”

Xu Shaochen’s words were filled with good intentions, offering honest advice for the youth’s sake.

    “Shut up! Just shut up!”

The young man leapt up, screaming hysterically at the screen, trying to smash it before Number One kicked him to the ground.

“Did I hit a nerve? Looks like you’re not clueless, just lying to yourself.”

Xu Shaochen smiled calmly, noticing the young man knew the truth deep down but held onto impossible hopes.

“All this talk is to turn me against him, but let me tell you, forget it. My dad might be unfair, but he owes me nothing.”

Catching his breath, the young man got up, looking at Xu Shaochen with a mocking sneer.

    “Clap! Clap! Clap!”

Xu Shaochen applauded. “Great attitude, but are those really your true thoughts? Everyone has desires. I doubt you’re so open-minded.”

Xu Shaochen paused before continuing. “And let me correct your grammar. I’m not turning you, I want to cooperate. Cooperation benefits both.”

“Shut up! Don’t say another word. I won’t agree to anything. Just kill me! If you dare, do it!”

The young man interrupted Xu Shaochen, eyes red and face furious.

“Ha! Why fear my words? Because you know your resolve is weak. You know deep down, you have grievances and you fear you’ll be swayed, right?”

“Also, your loyalty to your dad or Tianqing isn’t as strong as you show. Otherwise, you’d have found many chances to end your life, wouldn’t you?”

Xu Shaochen mocked, looking at the young man with disdain, his eyes filled with undisguised ridicule.

Like a demon, he stripped away every layer of the young man’s facade mercilessly.

The young man remained silent, head lowered, making his expression unreadable to Xu Shaochen.

“Come on, we’re all normal people. Why pretend you’re a saint without grudges in front of me? Your dad assigned you this task because of your blood ties and trust.”

“But this so-called trust just makes you a loyal henchman, not an heir. Otherwise, you’d learn leadership, not just fighting.”

“Your dad plans to attack my Paradise Island disguised as your rescue, but you know his true purpose well. And you, you’ve been abandoned, even used one last time before being discarded.”

Each of Xu Shaochen’s words hit the young man’s heart like a hammer.

The young man was silent for a long time before speaking hoarsely. “You win. What do you want?”

“I want to release you. I’ll support your rise as Tianqing’s leader.”

Xu Shaochen had done this many times, mastering the art.

“Heh.” The young man sneered dismissively. “Support me as Tianqing’s leader? Not whether it’ll work, but you’ll just treat me as your puppet.”

“You’re wrong.” Xu Shaochen shook his head. “I’m not that petty. Supporting you just stops your dad’s troubles for me.”

“Aren’t you afraid I’ll trouble you once I’m leader?” the young man asked.

“That’s for later. Right now, let’s handle the present. Besides, I believe we can find a balance, no need for conflict.”

Xu Shaochen responded indifferently, secretly amused. He dared to let the young man rise, having measures to prevent betrayal.

Raising a tiger requires chaining it; otherwise, a mad tiger easily turns against its master.

The young man doubted Xu Shaochen’s sincerity but couldn’t read his face.

    “Fine. I agree.”

    The young man nodded.

“Since that’s settled, let’s reintroduce ourselves. Xu Shaochen.” Xu Shaochen smiled satisfactorily.

    “Wang Kun.”

The young man uttered two words.

“Chinese? No wonder your Mandarin is excellent.”

    Xu Shaochen remarked.

“Not Chinese, Chinese descent.” Wang Kun shook his head, eyeing Xu Shaochen. “Aren’t you afraid I’ll betray you once I’m free?”

“Why would I be? Our chat is recorded. If this reaches Tianqing, your dad wouldn’t trust you.”

Xu Shaochen replied with a smile. Technology brings many modern conveniences.

Wang Kun laughed bitterly. “He never trusted anyone but himself.”

“Exactly.” Xu Shaochen spread his hands.

“How will you send me back? If the method’s wrong, I won’t be trusted.”

Wang Kun asked, looking at Xu Shaochen.

Xu Shaochen smiled calmly. “Isn’t your dad coming to rescue you? Let him save you.”

Wang Kun froze, quickly understanding Xu Shaochen’s plan, then said, “You know this because someone my dad sent to Jiangzhou was exposed, right?”

“I caught Zhao Fu, who had grudges with me and acted rashly. The others remain unfound.”

    Xu Shaochen shook his head.

He didn’t reveal Xie Ru as his spy, as he needed Xie Ru to monitor Wang Kun.

After the talk with Wang Kun, Xu Shaochen learned much about Tianqing.

Tianqing is more a closely-knit alliance than an organization.

Its members are financially strong, encompassing diverse types.

High-level meetings are masked, so even Wang Kun didn’t know others’ real identities.

But Wang Kun didn’t share more, like Tianqing’s headquarters.

He wasn’t foolish. Revealing it would let Xu Shaochen attack Tianqing’s headquarters, leaving him out of the picture.
