Chapter Index

    After more than an hour.

The car stopped at a remote seaside.

Zhang Yuan was pushed out of the car.

The incoming sea breeze carried a salty taste hitting the face painfully.

Zhang Yuan was shocked, filled with panic. “You… Why did you bring me here?”

After all, it was midnight and he was brought here by armed men, clearly not for good.

    “Bang!”

Two men kicked Zhang Yuan’s knees.

    “Thud!”

Zhang Yuan screamed, his legs hurt as he knelt on the ground.

The stones on the ground painfully jabbed his knees.

Almost reflexively, he tried to stand but was forcibly held down by his shoulders.

    “Clatter——”

A black business Mercedes opened its door.

Liu Jun, wearing a coat and black suit, with a cigar in his mouth, stepped out.

He walked step by step to Zhang Yuan.

“Boss, boss, let me go. Please, give me a chance. I don’t know where I offended you.”

Seeing Liu Jun, Zhang Yuan realized he was the leader and begged for mercy.

    While begging, he kowtowed.

His forehead hit the stones repeatedly, turning blue and red, seemingly unfelt.

Suddenly he felt his forehead on something smooth.

Looking up, he saw Liu Jun’s foot stretched in front of him, his forehead resting on Liu Jun’s shoe.

“Enough, stop it. It’s pointless. It seems Mr. Xu exaggerated your importance. You’ve let him down, so you must die.”

Liu Jun spoke calmly to Zhang Yuan, his eyes serene to the point of fear.

    Hearing the words “Mr. Xu,”

Zhang Yuan instantly realized, grabbing Liu Jun’s leg. “Xu Shaochen, let me see Mr. Xu. I was wrong. I shouldn’t have threatened him.”

Regret filled his heart. If he’d known the outcome, he wouldn’t have confronted or threatened Xu Shaochen.

“What? You threatened Mr. Xu? It seems you really deserve to die.”

Liu Jun’s face darkened, attempting to pull his foot back unsuccessfully. “Let go of your hands.”

“No, let me see Mr. Xu. Please, give me a chance.”

Zhang Yuan clung to Liu Jun’s left leg, refusing to let go, crying miserably.

    “Make him let go.”

    Liu Jun said blandly.

    “Bang!”

Upon his command, an aide stomped hard on Zhang Yuan’s hand.

    “Ah!”

Zhang Yuan screamed instinctively retracting his hands.

“Mr. Xu said he always keeps his promises. Since he promised to send you, he will. Only, it’s to the underworld.”

Liu Jun said condescendingly then left without looking back.

Daring to threaten Xu Shaochen was clueless.

“No! Don’t leave, let me speak to Mr. Xu. He’ll spare me.”

Zhang Yuan shouted hysterically at Liu Jun’s back, wanting to chase him but got pinned down.

    Soon, Liu Jun’s car departed.

    “Bang!”

A gunshot startled a flock of seabirds in the night.

In the car, watching the trees speed by, Liu Jun took out his phone and dialed Xu Shaochen.

“Mr. Xu, sorry to disturb you so late. Your instructions have been carried out…”

    ……………

    “Got it. Well done.”

Xu Shaochen hung up after speaking.

“Who called so late? It’s annoying.”

Beside him, Jenny groggily woke, grumbling.

“Liu Jun had something to report, so he called.”

Xu Shaochen put down the phone, explaining while holding Jenny.

“Doesn’t he know I’m a light sleeper? I can’t fall back asleep easily when woken.”

Jenny frowned, showing her annoyance at the disturbance.

“Sleepless nights often mean too much energy. Exhaust yourself and you’ll sleep better.”

Xu Shaochen smiled mischievously, pulling the blanket aside.

    “Stop it, it’s midnight…”

Xu Shaochen proved his point correct.

As Jenny, exhausted, slept soundly after.

    ………………

    In the morning.

Xu Shaochen took a shower before getting dressed.

Exercise late last night left him too lazy to shower, so he was sweaty.

After freshening up, he went downstairs.

A group of women were having breakfast; only he was missing.

“Why did no one call me? Am I not the head of this household?”

Xu Shaochen pretended to be displeased, sitting down.

“No, Linda said you must be tired from last night and let you rest a bit.”

Du Ruyan teased, winking at Xu Shaochen.

Jenny blushed, glaring at Linda, “Do you want to lose your bonus?”

“Under capitalist oppression, I must bow to life.”

    Linda sighed helplessly.

    “Enough nonsense, eat now.”

Xu Shaochen ended the unhealthy topic, starting breakfast.

    “Ding ding ding…”

    Suddenly his phone rang.

He saw it was Xie Ru calling and answered, “Speak.”

“I’ve reported Zhao Fu’s betrayal to the organization and completed the task. They won’t suspect us as we all agreed.”

Xie Ru’s voice came through the phone. Xu Shaochen nodded, “Okay, I’ll cooperate with you… got another call.”

Xu Shaochen hung up and answered the new call.

It was from Li Jianzhang (Lotus Charity head, see Chapter 82.). “Hey, Lao Li, what’s up?”

“Mr. Xu, as the year ends, several counties we supported invited you to visit as thanks. Your thoughts…”

“No time for all; choose one representative county for me.” Xu Shaochen said.

In Lotus Charity’s first year, the boss must show face and build a charitable image.

But he hadn’t time to visit every place helped by Lotus Charity, so one representative county was enough.
