Chapter Index

It was eight in the evening when Xu Shaochen arrived in Jiangzhou.

Just as he entered his house, he received a call from abroad.

    “Hello, who is this?”

Xu Shaochen gestured for a group of women to be silent before answering the call.

    “Wang Zhanhang.”

Xu Shaochen was initially surprised then remembered who this guy was. “What’s up?”

    “Li Daoyu is dead.”

“If I remember correctly, Li Daoyu was Wang Sheng’s man, right?” Xu Shaochen showed some interest in this Tianqing young master. Was Li Daoyu an informant placed by Wang Zhanhang beside Wang Sheng?

“He was indeed my second brother’s man, but I wanted to protect him. Your people disregarded my face, which means you’re not respecting me.”

Wang Zhanhang’s tone was chillingly cold even over the phone.

“Sorry, but who do you think you are?”

Xu Shaochen scoffed, refusing to cater to the other person’s egotistical behavior.

“This isn’t over. This call is just a heads-up so you won’t be caught off guard later…”

Before the other person finished speaking, Xu Shaochen hung up.

He initially thought they could chat a bit, but the other person’s attitude made Xu Shaochen lose interest in the conversation.

Still, Wang Kun seemed like a promising talent.

Far abroad, Wang Zhanhang listened to the busy tone in anger. “Let them proceed,” he said coldly.

    “Yes, boss.”

A bodyguard responded and then turned to leave.

Watching the bodyguard’s back, Wang Zhanhang said with a grim tone, “Xu Shaochen, you don’t appreciate the courtesy. I’m not a fool like Wang Sheng; you’ve got trouble coming your way.”

After getting the news about Li Daoyu that afternoon, he’d decided to show Xu Shaochen some consequences.

The call was made in the evening because he had just finished setting up his plan.

He wouldn’t start with Xu Shaochen directly because he knew they weren’t on the same level.

So he decided to target the people around Xu Shaochen.

    ………………

“Qingfeng, want to hang out tonight?”

A young man wrapped his arm around Zhao Qingfeng’s neck and asked.

    “Sure, what are we playing?”

Zhao Qingfeng replied casually. Since his sister Zhao Qingyu became Xu Shaochen’s woman, he never ran out of money.

When one has money, it’s easy to spend extravagantly, so Zhao Qingfeng now lived a rather luxurious life.

After Zhao Qingfeng came into money, the rich kids in school started inviting him to hang out.

For example, the guy with his arm around Zhao Qingfeng’s shoulder now was Zhao Qun, whose family was in the building materials business and quite wealthy.

“You’ll see when we get there. I guarantee you won’t be disappointed. By the way, bring enough money.”

Zhao Qun chuckled, pulling Zhao Qingfeng along, a mysterious glint in his eyes.

Zhao Qingfeng sneered. “Money’s not an issue. What’s important is that it’s fun. I’m just looking for ways to spend it.”

Over thirty minutes later, the two took a cab to a rather secluded bar.

“What’s so fun about this dump? The bars downtown are much better, right?”

Standing at the bar entrance, Zhao Qingfeng frowned, puzzled as he glanced at Zhao Qun.

“Look at the cars parked outside.”

    Zhao Qun pointed out.

Zhao Qingfeng noticed that luxury cars lined the entrance.

“If this place weren’t any fun, would so many wealthy people come here? Let’s go.”

As Zhao Qun finished speaking, he guided Zhao Qingfeng inside.

They entered the bar, squeezing through the crowded space to reach a door.

    “What are you up to?”

Two tall men guarding the door stopped them.

“We were introduced by Brother Cheng, here to play a few rounds.”

Zhao Qun said with a grin.

“Brother Cheng?” The two men glanced at Zhao Qun suspiciously, then opened the door. “Go ahead.”

Zhao Qingfeng hesitated at the door, knowing it wasn’t a legitimate place beyond.

But before he could suggest leaving, Zhao Qun pulled him inside.

“What are you standing for? Let’s go.”

They entered a staircase leading to a basement.

After descending, Zhao Qingfeng realized it wasn’t a basement at all. It was a lavishly decorated underground casino.

“Why did you bring me here?”

Zhao Qingfeng’s expression changed, clearly annoyed.

Despite not lacking money now, he knew what could and couldn’t be touched.

Gamblers never end well. At best, you’re penniless; at worst, your family is wrecked.

“Stop worrying. We’re just playing casually. It’s thrilling! Come on, the owner is my friend, he’ll give you a few chips to try for free.”

Zhao Qun said, forcefully dragging Zhao Qingfeng further inside.

Zhao Qingfeng was half-pushed into the place. As he saw the lively scene, he felt tempted.

    Just one try.

    One try is enough.

If I lose money, I’ll stop immediately.

    Zhao Qingfeng thought to himself.

However, he didn’t realize that once you start, there’s no end.

With that in mind, Zhao Qingfeng sat at a gambling table.

He seemed to have extraordinary luck tonight, winning continuously.

“Qingfeng, it’s getting late. We should come another day, it’s time to go.”

Zhao Qun hid a mocking smile while pretending to advise Zhao Qingfeng to leave.

“Wait, my luck’s great right now. Let me play a bit more. It’s still early anyway.”

Zhao Qingfeng shrugged off Zhao Qun’s hand on his shoulder without looking back.

Seeing this, Zhao Qun’s eyes showed ridicule. Well-meaning advice is wasted on those doomed. I’ve done my part.

Soon, Zhao Qingfeng’s luck ran out. From winning constantly, he started losing continuously, losing more and more.

In a blink, all his bank cards were emptied.

“Zhao Qun, lend me some money. I’ll pay you back once I’m back on my feet.”

Zhao Qingfeng said to Zhao Qun, eyes red, sweat beading on his face, clearly caught up in the game.

“Qingfeng, maybe you should stop since you’ve lost a lot tonight.” Zhao Qun pretended to advise.

“Stop babbling. Are you lending or not? Do you think I can’t pay you back?” Zhao Qingfeng said impatiently, his mind focused only on winning back his losses.

“I don’t have much on me. Just ask the owner for a loan. I know him, so he’ll give you a lower interest rate. With your brother-in-law’s name, you can easily borrow as much as you want.”

Zhao Qun offered seemingly good advice, intending to entangle Zhao Qingfeng further.

In reality, friends like this must be avoided.
