Chapter Index

Zhao Qingyu was furious upon learning the truth, almost to the point of exploding with anger.

She directly called Zhao Qingfeng to her house and slapped him a few times.

Only then did Zhao Qingfeng confess everything. He got into gambling half a month ago and had been gambling almost every day since.

He mostly lost, winning rarely. After losing, he’d either ask Zhao Qingyu for money or borrow directly from the boss, causing his debts to snowball.

“Shaochen, that’s the situation. I know what he did was wrong, but he’s my brother.”

Zhao Qingyu looked pityingly at Xu Shaochen. She was angry at Zhao Qingfeng for being such a disappointment but couldn’t just stand by.

    “How much does he owe?”

    Xu Shaochen asked expressionlessly.

“One hundred and seventy million.” Zhao Qingyu stated a figure.

Zhao Qingfeng angrily shouted, “I didn’t borrow that much money! They’re extorting me.”

    “Bang!”

As soon as he finished talking, Xu Shaochen grabbed a pen holder from the table and threw it.

    “Ah!”

Zhao Qingfeng screamed miserably, covering his nose and falling to the ground in pain.

“Extorting you? Are you blind? Didn’t you read the IOU when you signed it? If you hadn’t borrowed, would they force the money on you?”

Xu Shaochen reprimanded fiercely, knowing it was a trap set for Zhao Qingfeng.

No, it was a setup targeting him.

He didn’t believe the gambling house wouldn’t check Zhao Qingfeng’s identity before lending him so much.

If they did check, they’d know his relationship with Xu Shaochen, and normally, they wouldn’t dare lend him money or even allow him to gamble again.

Yet they lent him money, and quite a lot.

Had Zhao Qingfeng not frequently asked Zhao Qingyu for money, she wouldn’t have noticed. He would’ve ended up in deeper debt.

Eventually, they’d use the debt to coerce him into doing things, which was foreseeable. Zhao Qingfeng, being inexperienced, would be easily manipulated, giving them a way to control him.

Zhao Qingfeng was Zhao Qingyu’s brother, Xu Shaochen’s brother-in-law. Controlling him would allow them to use him in many ways.

Thankfully, Zhao Qingyu realized something was amiss. Otherwise, no one knew how far things would escalate.

Conspiracy or not, Xu Shaochen was still angry at Zhao Qingfeng.

If he didn’t gamble, they couldn’t use him.

“Brother-in-law, I was wrong. I truly realize my mistake. I won’t dare to do it again. Please give me another chance.”

“It was all Zhao Qun. He took me there. Without him, I wouldn’t have touched gambling, boo-hoo…”

Zhao Qingfeng lay on the ground wailing, crying his heart out in fear and regret.

    “Who is Zhao Qun?”

    Xu Shaochen narrowed his eyes.

Zhao Qingfeng kept crying, not speaking.

Seeing his cowardly state, Xu Shaochen grew angry and kicked him twice.

“Ah! Brother-in-law, stop hitting me, please don’t!”

Zhao Qingfeng screamed, curling up on the floor, clutching his head.

Zhao Qingyu felt a bit heartbroken seeing this but didn’t intervene or speak up for Zhao Qingfeng.

“I asked who Zhao Qun is!”

    Xu Shaochen shouted angrily.

Zhao Qingfeng shivered and rapidly revealed Zhao Qun’s identity.

    “Long Yi!”

    Xu Shaochen called out.

Long Yi opened the office door and came in. “Boss, what are your orders?”

“At Jiangzhou Medical Institute, there’s a Zhao Qun whose family is in the building materials business, in the same class as this boy. Bring him to me.”

Xu Shaochen said coldly. His theory suggested Zhao Qun had deliberately dragged Zhao Qingfeng into trouble.

    “Yes, boss.”

Long Yi nodded, then quickly left the office, closing the door behind him.

Zhao Qingyu poured Xu Shaochen a glass of water, eyebrows tightly furrowed. “Shaochen, what about the money…”

“One hundred and seventy million? Ha.” Xu Shaochen sneered, drinking the water in one go. “Don’t expect them to get a single penny!”

He kicked Zhao Qingfeng again. “Where’s the gambling house?”

“In…” Zhao Qingfeng shakily provided the address.

Xu Shaochen took out his phone and called the police department. “Chief Liu, I have a lead for you. An underground gambling house, send a team tonight. You’ll definitely catch them.”

“Come on, no need for formalities between us. Reporting illegal operations is our civic duty.”

One hundred and seventy million? Xu Shaochen intended to pull them out entirely.

Let alone one hundred and seventy million, they’d end up with government-provided room and board.

After hanging up, he looked at Zhao Qingfeng curled pathetically on the ground, feeling furious.

“I’ll help you this time, but that doesn’t mean there’s a second. If you touch this again, make sure you’re far away when you die, don’t die before me and irritate me.”

Xu Shaochen looked down at Zhao Qingfeng, cursing. A gambler never ends well. If Zhao Qingfeng weren’t Zhao Qingyu’s brother, he wouldn’t bother.

“Yes, thank you, brother-in-law. I won’t gamble again. Never again.”

Zhao Qingfeng shook his head like a wave drum.

Xu Shaochen only smirked at this. Every gambler claims they’ll never gamble again.

“He’s graduating soon. Doesn’t your company have business in Africa? Send him there to work.”

A flash of determination appeared in Zhao Qingyu’s eyes, resolving to no longer trouble Xu Shaochen with Zhao Qingfeng.

She didn’t believe Zhao Qingfeng’s promises, and didn’t want him to become a gambler.

Xu Shaochen and Zhao Qingfeng both looked at her incredulously.

“Really willing?” Xu Shaochen knew how much Zhao Qingyu cherished her brother.

Zhao Qingyu smiled bitterly. “If I don’t, what else can I do? I can’t watch him become a societal waste.”

“No, sis, not Africa, please don’t! I promise I won’t gamble again, please!”

Zhao Qingfeng looked at Zhao Qingyu in terror, pleading.

“Shut up, it’s not up to you.”

    Xu Shaochen snapped coldly.

Zhao Qingfeng didn’t dare say another word, just silently wept.

Thinking about struggling in harsh African conditions, his tears flowed even more.
