Chapter Index

“My life is in your hands. What tricks can I play?”

Wang Zhanhang spread his hands with a bit of helplessness.

    “You better know.”

Chen Dongqiu said then left two bodyguards. “While going into the mountain, you two keep an eye on him. If he dares to act up, kill him.”

Wang Zhanhang was stubborn at first, refusing to reveal anything, which angered Chen Dongqiu. But now Wang Zhanhang cooperated, making everything seem too smooth.

    “Yes, boss.”

The two bodyguards answered and walked to Wang Zhanhang’s side, one on the left and one on the right.

Long Er kept observing the surroundings, feeling an inexplicable unease.

This intuition came from his years of mercenary experience.

This gut feeling had saved his life many times.

But without solid evidence, he kept silent, just becoming more vigilant.

    About 20 minutes later.

Seven or eight strong young men came down from the mountain.

    “Eldest Brother.”

The leader, a white-haired guy, greeted Wang Zhanhang then instructed his people, “You guys, move all the cars away from here.”

    “Yes.”

A few youths responded and drove away with the cars that Chen Dongqiu and his team arrived in.

    “Let’s go.”

Wang Zhanhang nodded at the white-haired youth, signaling him to lead the way.

“Eldest Brother and all other brothers must keep close. The mountain paths are confusing, and it’s easy to get lost if you’re not careful.”

The white-haired young man spoke to Chen Dongqiu and others before leading them uphill.

Chen Dongqiu and Long Er exchanged a glance, with the group surrounding Wang Zhanhang in the middle as they followed.

The group trekked through the forest, which was silent except for occasional bird chirps. The environment cast a shadow over their hearts.

They continued for another 20 minutes.

Long Er noticed something was off.

On the previous path, you could hear bird calls now and then.

But now, there wasn’t even a bird call. Besides the wind, there was no noise at all.

    The quiet was eerily strange.

The only possibility was that someone hid nearby, scaring away the wild birds.

With this suspicion, he thought back.

When Wang Zhanhang made the call, he purposely mentioned many cars, likely as a hint.

Thinking of this, Long Er felt a chill run down his spine, as if needles pricked his back.

“Wait, my stomach hurts suddenly. I need to relieve myself.”

Long Er stopped the group, clutching his stomach with a painful expression.

Even though he felt something was wrong, he didn’t warn Chen Dongqiu and the others.

Because he couldn’t remind them, otherwise the ambushers would act prematurely.

So, his only option was to leave the group and report back to Xu Shaochen.

The white-haired youth leading the way subtly glanced at Wang Zhanhang.

Wang Zhanhang subtly shook his head, speaking to Long Er calmly, “We’ll walk slower, catch up soon.”

After speaking, Wang Zhanhang started walking.

At this time, Wang Zhanhang was the leader outwardly, while Chen Dongqiu and others were his bodyguards.

Thus, Chen Dongqiu wanted to wait for Long Er but couldn’t contradict Wang Zhanhang, or the white-haired guy might suspect.

So, Chen Dongqiu gritted his teeth and led the group, following the white-haired youth.

Seeing the group continue, Long Er clutched his stomach and ducked into nearby bushes.

Then he crawled slowly in another direction.

He took out his phone to call Xu Shaochen but found no signal.

On the way, he clearly saw a signal tower on the hillside.

The only explanation was a signal jammer in the forest.

This confirmed Long Er’s suspicion of an ambush nearby.

    On the other side.

Wang Zhanhang and the group, led by the white-haired youth, walked for another seven or eight minutes.

“Young Master, should we wait for him? He might get lost in these deep woods.”

Chen Dongqiu finally stopped Wang Zhanhang, fearing Long Er would be left behind.

“Never mind, it doesn’t matter if he comes. You’re here, right? Losing one person isn’t a problem as long as we catch your group.”

Wang Zhanhang turned and looked at Chen Dongqiu with a mocking smile.

Chen Dongqiu’s expression changed at these words.

    “Rustle…”

    “Clatter…”

Before he could speak, more than twenty armed men suddenly emerged from the forest.

    “Whoosh!” “Whoosh!”

Chen Dongqiu’s bodyguards quickly drew their guns, ready to confront.

Chen Dongqiu also swiftly grabbed a gun to hold Wang Zhanhang hostage, gritting his teeth, “You’re playing tricks on me!”

    “Release the Eldest Brother!”

The white-haired man leading pointed his gun at Chen Dongqiu.

“Keep your gun away or you’ll all be finished here.”

Wang Zhanhang, held hostage, remained calm, with traces of ridicule on his face.

“Tell them to drop their guns!”

    Chen Dongqiu, gritting his teeth.

    “Nobody lowers weapons!”

Wang Zhanhang shouted angrily then sneered at Chen Dongqiu, “Go ahead, shoot me. We’ll die together. But your loyal men will accompany you in death.”

“Oh, your parents are alive? If I die, they’ll soon follow.”

Hearing this, Chen Dongqiu was both shocked and furious, realizing he had no chance.

He had Wang Zhanhang hostage but couldn’t die alongside Wang Zhanhang.

    “Bang! Bang! Bang!”

Ultimately, Chen Dongqiu released Wang Zhanhang, firing several shots into the air.

These shots aimed to warn the escaped Long Er.

    “Bang!”

The white-haired youth kicked Chen Dongqiu down, pointing the gun at his head, ordering Chen Dongqiu’s bodyguards, “Drop your guns.”

Seeing Chen Dongqiu surrender, his bodyguards followed suit.

“Idiot, didn’t you realize this important place wouldn’t have so many bodyguards blindly?”

“I mentioned many cars on purpose as a hint for many people, got it?”

Wang Zhanhang stood over Chen Dongqiu, looking down with mocking amusement.

Chen Dongqiu gritted his teeth, glaring at Wang Zhanhang.

Wang Zhanhang squatted and patted Chen Dongqiu’s face, saying word by word,

“In my hands, you’ll taste every method you used on me.”
