Chapter Index

“Grades? I’ve watched hundreds of films this year. What do you think of my grade?”

The young man turned and spoke to Xu Shaochen.

    Xu Shaochen: “……….”

Am I really asking about that grade? “Wanna watch together, buddy?”

The young man was generous, speaking as he handed an earphone to Xu Shaochen.

“No thanks, you enjoy it yourself.”

Xu Shaochen waved his hand, feeling uncomfortable watching such films with another man.

It’s either something you sneak away to watch alone,

or you watch with a girl, making it more exciting.

Watching with a guy just feels too awkward.

“Don’t be shy, I can tell we’re like-minded. Meeting here is fate. Watching alone brings one joy, watching with you doubles it.”

The young man was enthusiastic, refusing to take Xu Shaochen’s rejection and pressing the earphone into his hand.

“No, you go ahead and enjoy your share of happiness.”

Xu Shaochen returned the earphone and got up to leave.

“Hey buddy, don’t you want to learn Japanese? This also teaches English… or even Mandarin for pronunciation practice.”

The young man shouted at Xu Shaochen’s back.

Hearing that, Xu Shaochen almost slipped and fell.

Exiting the garden, Xu Shaochen prepared to leave.

On his way to the school gate, he saw another young man standing motionless under a tree, as if on guard duty.

Curious, Xu Shaochen quickened his pace.

He didn’t disturb the youth but asked a guy squatting nearby, “Hey, what’s that guy doing under the tree?”

“Who knows? I only know that he’s incredibly bored, standing there since morning. Don’t his legs go numb?”

The squatting guy shook his head while speaking.

Xu Shaochen was puzzled, “How do you know he’s been standing since morning?”

“Because I’ve been watching him since morning,” the guy responded confidently.

    “???”

Who’s actually the bored one? You watched him all day; maybe you’re more bored.

“Aren’t your legs numb?” Xu Shaochen curiously looked at him.

The guy nodded, “They are. I’ve been squatting so long, I can’t stand. That’s why I’m here.”

    “…………….”

How on earth did these two get into Yunzhou University? “Need a hand up?”

    Xu Shaochen asked.

“Thanks a lot.” The guy looked grateful.

Xu Shaochen shook his head resignedly, helping him to a nearby bench.

“Thanks, buddy. I waited ages, and no one helped me up.”

On the bench, he massaged his calves and thanked Xu Shaochen.

“I’ll ask that guy what he’s doing.”

Xu Shaochen pointed to the youth under the tree and said.

“I bet his legs are numb too. Go see if he needs help.”

    The guy said earnestly.

Xu Shaochen smirked and ignored him, quickly walking to the youth under the tree, “What are you up to, buddy?”

“Shh!” The youth interrupted him, saying slowly, “Don’t disturb me, I’m thinking.”

“Thinking about what?” Xu Shaochen asked curiously.

The youth glanced at him, caught a falling leaf, and with emotion said, “I’m thinking if the leaf falls because of the wind’s pursuit or the tree’s unwillingness to hold on.”

“Don’t leaves fall when winter comes?” Xu Shaochen said speechlessly.

The youth froze, then glared at Xu Shaochen before turning to leave.

    Then—

    “Thud!”

Possibly standing too long, his leg was numb. As he took a step, he fell flat on his face.

After falling, he got up, glared at Xu Shaochen, and limped away.

    “…………….”

    Can someone explain to me?

What sorcery gets students into Yunzhou University? How did these weirdos ace the exams?

“Did he say what he was doing?”

The guy who was squatting earlier approached Xu Shaochen curiously.

    “He did,” Xu Shaochen nodded.

The guy perked up, “What did he say?”

“He said he was bored and wanted to see how long you’d squat.”

Xu Shaochen said seriously, then turned to leave. He caught the foolishness bug too.

The guy blinked in confusion, uttering one word, “Crap!”

Xu Shaochen headed for the school gate, calling Long Yi to pick him up.

Hanging up, he saw Lu Zhe carrying luggage approaching.

Lu Zhe also noticed Xu Shaochen, stiffening and avoiding eye contact, quickening his pace, internally chanting: You can’t see me, you can’t see me.

Right now, the last person Lu Zhe wanted to see was Xu Shaochen.

Unfortunately, life rarely goes as planned.

“Yo, isn’t this Mr. Lu? Got lots of luggage—where you heading?”

Xu Shaochen greeted him, walking over quickly.

Lu Zhe couldn’t fake it. He stopped, replying nervously, “I’m going on a trip.”

“A trip? In such a rush? My ride will be here soon; let them give you a lift.”

Xu Shaochen nodded, amused. He was just at a meeting, now rushing off on a trip?

He offered Lu Zhe a ride to talk him out of seeing Chen Dongyu since Xu Shaochen was close to Chen Dongqiu.

He couldn’t let this guy string along his friend’s sister.

Upon hearing Xu Shaochen’s offer, Lu Zhe turned pale, pleading, “Mr. Xu, please. I offended the wrong person. I’ll leave and never see Chen Dongyu again. Spare me!”

Lu Zhe thought Xu Shaochen’s ‘give you a lift’ meant a one-way trip to hell.

Why else was Xu Shaochen still here after leaving? Clearly waiting.

    “???”

Did I ever say I’d do anything to him? This sudden plea for mercy caught me off guard.

“What do you mean? I never said I’d do anything, just a simple ride.”

Lu Zhe teared up, wanting to cry. You’re sending me off yet say you won’t do anything?
