Chapter Index

    “Should we buy a gift?”

Xu Shaochen knew it was unnecessary to ask; of course, you should bring something on your first visit.

“Some tea will do.” Xie Wei quickly suggested, worried that Xu Shaochen might buy something too expensive.

Xu Shaochen nodded, then called Long San, telling him to buy some tea.

“Xu Shaochen, the competition is coming up. Everyone’s training hard, but you’re always missing. Don’t you think that’s a bit much?”

Just then, an untimely voice interrupted. Zhang Qingsong walked over, his face filled with jealousy.

    “None of your damn business.”

Xu Shaochen sneered, casually pushed Zhang Qingsong aside, and left with his arm around Xie Wei.

“Xu Shaochen, don’t be so arrogant! The competition isn’t just about you; it’s about the honor of the whole class!”

Zhang Qingsong’s face turned white with anger. Clenching his fists, he stared at Xu Shaochen’s back, gritting his teeth as he growled.

Xu Shaochen stopped and turned to Zhang Qingsong. “What I do is none of your concern. Just take care of yourself and don’t drag me down.”

He’s never played basketball, but his jumping ability, power, and precision—thanks to years of martial arts training—were unmatched in the school. He thought, ‘I may not have played, but I’ve seen it. Once I understand the rules, I doubt anyone can stop me on the court.’

“Hmph, such big talk. Just make sure you don’t drag down the class.”

Zhang Qingsong coldly snorted. A guy who doesn’t even play basketball making such claims was downright laughable.

“Where’d you get the nerve to say that? Dragging down the class—sounds like something a loser like you does all the time.”

Xu Shaochen chuckled, then continued walking with Xie Wei without looking back.

    “You…”

Zhang Qingsong’s face alternated between green and white from anger. But he couldn’t find a retort, knowing he’d just been leveled by a scholar.

His grades weren’t bad, but compared to Xu Shaochen, he was indeed just a slacker.

Watching Xu Shaochen’s hand on Xie Wei’s waist, Zhang Qingsong burned with jealousy and anger, as if a fire was raging inside him.

I’ll see how long your arrogance lasts. When the competition begins, that’s when you’ll make a fool of yourself.

    ……

When Xu Shaochen and Xie Wei left the school, Long San had already bought the tea.

“Boss, 20 grams of Da Hong Pao from the mother tree.”

Long San handed Xu Shaochen the neatly packaged tea. The 20 grams cost 210,000 yuan.

This was like the Ferrari of tea.

Xie Wei didn’t know the price of the tea, so she thought nothing of it, assuming it was just regular tea.

Xu Shaochen nodded and got into the car with Xie Wei.

“Where do you live?” Xu Shaochen asked.

Xie Wei quickly replied, “West City, Dafeng Factory Complex.”

Xu Shaochen pulled up the black soundproof divider in the car, separating the front and back seats into two isolated spaces.

Xie Wei felt a bit uneasy, already anticipating what might happen.

    Xu Shaochen patted his lap.

Xie Wei blushed and rolled her eyes flirtatiously. Then, she lifted her hair, fully exposing one side of her face, and slowly lay down on Xu Shaochen’s lap…

This was the advantage of experience. Just one look, one gesture, and she knew what to do.

Xu Shaochen had to admit that Xie Wei’s skills were improving. Each time brought him a new kind of pleasure.

Xu Shaochen liked a woman who constantly improved. That’s what ambition looked like.

Half an hour later, the car stopped.

Xie Wei blushed as she tidied up her disheveled clothes. She touched up her makeup with a mirror, gargled with mineral water, then chewed some gum before stepping out of the car with Xu Shaochen.

Xu Shaochen instructed Long San and Long Si to wait outside while he followed Xie Wei into the complex.

“Old Four, do you think the boss’s body can keep up? Going from one woman to the next every day.”

Watching Xu Shaochen’s back, Long San nudged Long Si with a gossipy grin.

Long Si rolled his eyes. “Gossiping about the boss behind his back? You tired of living? You should worry instead about whether the boss will reimburse your tea expenses.”

“True. I should come up with a way to tactfully remind him. Saving up isn’t easy, after all.” Long San’s face changed instantly as he frowned and began thinking.

Xu Shaochen had no idea that Long San, with his big eyebrows and eyes, was gossiping about him behind his back. He had already reached Xie Wei’s door.

“Honey, my parents might say something inappropriate. Don’t take it to heart.”

Standing at the door, Xie Wei nervously gave Xu Shaochen a heads-up.

“Relax, I’ve heard it all before.”

Xu Shaochen shook his head dismissively, then knocked on the door.

    “Click—”

A moment later, the door opened. It was a middle-aged woman.

“Xiao Wei, you’re back! Come in; Jianwei is waiting for you… Who is this?”

The smile on the middle-aged woman’s face disappeared the moment she saw Xu Shaochen.

Xu Shaochen smiled calmly. “Hello, Auntie. I’m Weiwei’s boyfriend.”

    “Boyfriend? Hmph, come in.”

The middle-aged woman glanced at Xu Shaochen, then sneered derisively when she saw the tea in his hand.

Xu Shaochen and Xie Wei entered the house.

In the living room sat a middle-aged man and a young man dressed in a suit.

The young man, likely the arranged date for Xie Wei, had been introduced by her family.

When Zhong Jianwei saw Xie Wei, he was immediately captivated, even though he had seen her photos before.

But seeing her in person still made his heart race. He thought to himself, ‘I’d trade ten years of my life to marry this woman.’

But when he saw Xu Shaochen holding Xie Wei’s hand, his face instantly darkened, his expression turning hostile.

    “Hello, Uncle.”

Xu Shaochen greeted the middle-aged man.

“You must be Xiao Xu. Have a seat.”

The middle-aged man’s tone was calm, clearly showing that Xie Wei had mentioned Xu Shaochen before.

“Uncle, a small token of respect for you. Please accept it.”

Xu Shaochen sat down and handed over the tea.

“Hmph! Tea? What, you think we can’t afford tea? Look at what Jianwei brought—watches and jewelry! See, that’s the difference between people. I don’t even know what Xiao Wei sees in you.”

The middle-aged woman scoffed contemptuously at Xu Shaochen. Her tone was dripping with sarcasm.

“Mom…” Xie Wei tugged at the middle-aged woman’s sleeve, her face showing discomfort.

The middle-aged woman shook off Xie Wei’s hand. “What, am I wrong? He’s clearly not as good as Jianwei!”

“Auntie, you flatter me. I only made a little money and thought I’d pay some respects to you and Uncle.” Zhong Jianwei said humbly, though his proud expression suggested otherwise. His gaze toward Xu Shaochen was full of disdain.

A poor student with no money, no experience, what right does he have to compete with me?
