Chapter 143: Am I a Law-Abiding Citizen?
by xennovel“Mr… Mr. Xu.”
Jiang Cheng and his family of three stood next to Xu Shaochen.
The ones with the worst expressions were Guo Xue and Jiang Siyu, as they couldn’t accept being trampled upon by someone they used to humiliate with impunity.
“Oh! Chairman Jiang, I don’t deserve such an honor. After all, I’m just a poor boy that you toyed with at your leisure. Why the flattery?”
Xu Shaochen looked at Jiang Cheng with a mocking smile, speaking slowly and casually.
Seeing Xu Shaochen’s demeanor, Jiang Cheng wanted to curse him as a petty man reveling in his success. But he didn’t dare. Instead, he forced a fawning smile, “Mr. Xu, it’s all a misunderstanding. Back then, we didn’t recognize your worth. Please, if you can let bygones be bygones, I’m willing to do anything.”
“Is that so? You seem so sincere. How about this—why don’t the three of you dance for me? Eating hot pot can be quite boring; a little monkey show would be perfect.”
Xu Shaochen smiled warmly at the three of them, his eyes filled with undisguised mockery.
Did you ever think you’d see this day?
The day I walked out of the hotel, I said, ‘Don’t let me make a comeback,’ but you all dismissed it.
Too bad for you, fate is on my side! The three of them were so enraged that their faces turned green, burning with fury and feeling utterly humiliated.
Who were they? To say they were of noble status was not an exaggeration.
Yet now, Xu Shaochen was making them dance in front of everyone for his amusement. This was pure humiliation.
“Come, come, everyone! Quick, look over here! Today, we’re having a special event at the hot pot restaurant! The owner of Liaoyuan Hotpot City, Mr. Jiang, is going to dance with his wife and daughter! Let’s give them a round of applause!”
Mei Liangxin, the best sidekick, stood up, clapping his hands as he loudly announced.
Although he didn’t know what kind of grudges Xu Shaochen had with the Jiang Family, Mei Liangxin didn’t care. He just knew standing firmly on Xu Shaochen’s side was always right.
“Is this for real? They must be joking!”
“Exactly, how could that be possible? Such big business people would never do something like this.”
“Wait a minute, I recognize that man. Isn’t he the owner of Liaoyuan Hotpot City and the chairman of Jiang Group?”
For a moment, everyone buzzed with discussion. The whole hot pot restaurant was abuzz, like a swarm of flies, all pointing at Jiang Cheng and the others.
“Xu Shaochen, don’t go too far!”
Guo Xue couldn’t tolerate it anymore. She gritted her teeth and snarled at Xu Shaochen.
“Splash!”
As soon as she finished speaking, Xu Shaochen grabbed a wine glass and doused her face with a cup of alcohol, melting her foundation.
“You think I’m going too far? Back then, wasn’t your Jiang Family treating me the same way? Also, watch your tone when speaking to me. If you dare use that tone again, I’ll smash your mouth.”
Xu Shaochen crossed his legs and toyed with the empty wine glass in his hand, looking at Guo Xue with complete indifference.
Guo Xue wiped the alcohol off her face, looking at Xu Shaochen with eyes full of venom but didn’t dare say another word.
“What the hell do you want?!”
Jiang Cheng clenched his fists, veins popping on his arms as he struggled to suppress his rage.
“What do I want? I just want to see you all dance.”
Xu Shaochen spread his hands, showing a playful expression, then looked at Mei Liangxin and asked, “Do you think my request is unreasonable?”
“Not unreasonable at all, very lenient.” Mei Liangxin agreed solemnly.
Seeing Xu Shaochen and Mei Liangxin playing off each other like this, Jiang Cheng’s face turned ashen as he said, “Choose something else. Anything but this, and I’ll agree to it.”
“Bang!”
The wine glass Xu Shaochen was playing with landed on Jiang Cheng’s head, shattering on impact, and shards scattered all over the ground.
“Ah!”
Jiang Cheng covered his forehead and let out a pained cry as blood seeped through his fingers.
Originally noisy, the restaurant customers suddenly quieted down at the sight of this. They didn’t even dare to breathe too loudly.
“Old Jiang, Old Jiang, are you okay?”
“Dad, are you alright?”
Guo Xue and Jiang Siyu were startled, their faces pale as they quickly rushed to support Jiang Cheng.
“I… I’m fine.”
Jiang Cheng shook his head, releasing his hand from his forehead, and a piece of glass shard fell into his palm.
“Remember, it is you who are begging me right now. You have no right to haggle, understand?”
The smile vanished from Xu Shaochen’s face, replaced by a dark expression, as he stood up and pointed at Jiang Cheng’s nose, speaking each word distinctly.
“Dad, let’s go. I don’t believe he actually dares to do anything to us!”
Jiang Siyu glared at Xu Shaochen coldly, then turned to leave.
“Of course I wouldn’t dare do anything. I’m a law-abiding citizen. But if you were to have a car accident after walking out of that door, wouldn’t that be normal? Oh, and if there were some safety issues at your hot pot city, and it got investigated by the Food Safety Bureau, that would also be normal, right? If your company faced quality inspection issues and was ordered to shut down for rectification by relevant departments, that would be all quite normal too, wouldn’t it?”
Xu Shaochen’s face broke into a smile again as he spoke, seemingly talking to himself as he took out his Phone, as though contemplating whether to make a call.
“You… you shameless man!”
Guo Xue was so furious she could hardly catch her breath, managing to spit out a sentence after a long pause.
This was a blatant threat. Xu Shaochen was openly threatening them, and yet, they had no choice but to submit.
“Thank you for the compliment. But compared to you guys, I still have a lot to learn.”
Xu Shaochen sneered. Who could be more shameless than the Jiang Family, who even defaulted on the million they promised his mother to save her life?
Jiang Cheng took a deep breath, calming himself down, and looked at Xu Shaochen, saying, “You wouldn’t be this childish just to vent, would you?”
“What if I am this childish? What can you do about it?” Xu Shaochen laughed and asked.
Jiang Cheng was at a loss for words, unable to argue further.
“Hahaha! Just kidding.” Xu Shaochen laughed heartily and sat back down, casually waving his hand at Jiang Cheng, “I don’t like talking to people who are standing while I’m sitting.”
Hearing that, Jiang Cheng immediately grabbed a chair.
“Clack!”
Xu Shaochen kicked the chair away, saying calmly, “Did I say you could sit down?”
“You…” Jiang Cheng was furious. Xu Shaochen was forcing him to kneel in front of everyone. How would he live with this humiliation?
Xu Shaochen acted as though he didn’t see Jiang Cheng’s murderous glare, calmly saying, “Three seconds. Otherwise, you can get lost.”
“Thud!”
Grinding his teeth, Jiang Cheng knelt in front of Xu Shaochen.
Wow! Everyone was stunned, watching in disbelief.
The chairman of Jiang Group and the owner of Liaoyuan Hotpot City actually knelt to Xu Shaochen.
Just who on earth is this Xu Shaochen?
“Now that’s the right attitude. You see, the most important thing is recognizing reality and knowing yourself.”
Xu Shaochen bent down, smirking as he patted Jiang Cheng’s face, his eyes cold as ice.
Feeling Xu Shaochen’s hand, neither too gentle nor forceful, patting his face, Jiang Cheng felt an unprecedented humiliation. He had lived for half a century and had never been humiliated like this.
A poor student they had once toyed with at will was now making him kneel.
What an unpredictable world.
