Chapter Index

After sitting down, they began to order food.

It was Song Xinran and the other two women who ordered; Xu Shaochen and the other two men didn’t order a single dish.

“By the way, let me introduce you to these two gentlemen—Li Yuan and Zhang Tian. They are my friends, and those two beauties are their girlfriends, Yun Yun and Nana.”

“And these two are Song Xinran and her boyfriend.”

Chen Jie introduced Xu Shaochen and the others to each other, but he deliberately left out Xu Shaochen’s name, clearly displeased.

“Brother Chen, is this the future sister-in-law you mentioned? She sure is naturally beautiful. You have a great eye.”

Li Yuan said, grinning as he looked at Song Xinran.

Both Chen Jie and Xu Shaochen’s faces changed.

Xu Shaochen felt a quiet anger rising; Chen Jie had just introduced him as Song Xinran’s boyfriend.

But now, Li Yuan still made such a remark. This was obviously a provocation.

Chen Jie had a hesitant look but eventually gave a half-hearted smile, saying, “A good eye doesn’t help much if she’s not interested in me.”

He realized Li Yuan was targeting Xu Shaochen for his sake, so he ultimately decided to agree with Li Yuan.

“Miss Song, your taste is nowhere close to our Brother Chen’s.” Zhang Tian chimed in, smiling at Song Xinran, completely ignoring Xu Shaochen’s presence.

Song Xinran’s face turned extremely ugly.

Xu Shaochen smiled faintly and said to Chen Jie, “Young Master Chen, your two friends seem to lack some social graces. To avoid any unpleasantness, I hope you can restrain them a bit.”

    “Bang!”

Hearing this, Li Yuan and Zhang Tian immediately slammed the table, glaring at Xu Shaochen.

“Damn! Kid, what the hell did you just say? Do you even know your place? You think you can compete with our Brother Chen for a woman?”

“Exactly! If you have any sense, don’t waste the young lady’s time. Only our Brother Chen deserves Miss Song.”

“Enough! Sit down!” Chen Jie barked, then looked at Xu Shaochen with a smirk, “To be honest, though, I think they have a point. What they’re saying makes sense.”

He had figured it out just now.

He still couldn’t stand the thought of just letting Song Xinran go.

Li Yuan and Zhang Tian were right—he, Chen Jie, was the epitome of a high-status, wealthy, and handsome man. What qualities did Xu Shaochen have to be worthy of Song Xinran? “Young Master Chen, if you say so, then there’s no need for us to stay and eat. We’ll take our leave.”

Song Xinran coldly threw down her words and stood up, ready to leave.

“Hey, Xinran, hold on. It was just a joke, just a joke.”

Chen Jie’s face darkened. He hadn’t expected such a strong reaction from Song Xinran, making him even more envious and resentful of Xu Shaochen.

Soon, the dishes started coming one after another.

“Here, Xinran, try this. This is one of this restaurant’s specialty dishes.”

    “Xinran, have some of this…”

“Xinran, which type of wine do you prefer?”

Chen Jie kept ingratiating himself, completely ignoring Xu Shaochen, as if he couldn’t believe that he, Chen Jie, couldn’t win over a woman.

But then he was about to be infuriated. He kept placing dish after dish in front of Song Xinran.

But Song Xinran picked up the food with her chopsticks and fed it to Xu Shaochen.

“Shaochen, is it good?” Song Xinran carefully fed the food from her chopsticks directly into Xu Shaochen’s mouth.

Xu Shaochen nodded, giving Chen Jie a mocking glance, “Since Young Master Chen said this is the restaurant’s specialty, the taste can’t be bad.”

Chen Jie was fuming inside. He wanted to smash the plate into Xu Shaochen’s face several times but forcibly held back each time.

“I wonder, Mr. Xu, where do you work?” Li Yuan signaled Yun Yun with a glance, and Yun Yun quickly and cooperatively asked.

Xu Shaochen smiled, “Oh, it’s nothing prestigious. I’m still a student, currently starting my own company.”

“Oh wow, a college student entrepreneur? That’s something. Your company must have what, five or six people?”

Zhang Tian exaggerated with a face full of mockery, clearly ridiculing Xu Shaochen’s small business daring to call itself a company.

Others burst into laughter upon hearing this, as Zhang Tian’s words were truly a slap in the face.

“Mr. Xu, not to boast, but my family is also in business. If there’s ever a chance, I wouldn’t mind giving you a hand.”

Chen Jie looked at Xu Shaochen with a cheerful smile, but his tone was clearly condescending.

“Gentlemen, sorry to interrupt. This is a bottle of red wine sent by a guest from over there. Would you like it opened?”

At that moment, a waiter carrying a bottle of red wine approached, pointing to a table nearby.

Everyone turned to look in the direction the waiter was pointing.

Xu Shaochen was stunned. He hadn’t expected it to be Han Feng, who he hadn’t seen in a long time.

Han Feng noticed Xu Shaochen looking over and quickly raised his wine glass as a greeting.

He had only just noticed Xu Shaochen. Initially, he wanted to go over and say hello, but he was worried about intruding on what might be a private gathering.

But pretending not to see him also didn’t seem right, so he eventually bought a bottle of wine and sent it over as a gesture of goodwill.

“Haha, Brother Chen, who is that guy? A bottle of wine worth seventy to eighty thousand yuan? He must be asking for your help.”

Li Yuan withdrew his gaze and took the bottle of red wine, smiling as he spoke to Chen Jie.

“Of course. If he wants to curry favor with our Brother Chen, he better spend big. Sending us some cheap wine worth a few thousand yuan would be an insult to our Brother Chen, wouldn’t it?” Zhang Tian chimed in, sucking up to Chen Jie.

They all assumed that Han Feng’s wine was sent to Chen Jie and that it was meant to curry favor with him.

After all, among those present, Chen Jie had the highest status. It couldn’t possibly have been sent to Xu Shaochen, right? That would be ridiculous.

“Haha, who cares who sent it. We’ll take it. Whether we help him or not depends on his sincerity.”

Chen Jie chuckled to himself, feeling even more smug as Han Feng’s gesture reinforced his superior status.

Xu Shaochen just smiled and said nothing. He didn’t bother to mention the truth to shatter their delusion.

Chen Jie noticed Xu Shaochen’s smile, which he interpreted as disdain, and his face dropped, “What are you laughing at? Are you looking down on me?”

“I’m just laughing at how you’re so sure that the wine is meant for you?” Xu Shaochen looked at him playfully.

Chen Jie sneered, “If it wasn’t meant for me, do you think it’s for you? You must be crazy.”

“Hahaha, Brother Chen, how could you crush his dreams so quickly?”

“Who knows? Maybe it was really meant for him… unless the person who sent the wine is blind.”

Zhang Tian and Li Yuan laughed heartily, eying Xu Shaochen with ridicule and contempt.

Song Xinran attempted to leave again, but Xu Shaochen gently held her back.

Originally, he didn’t plan to bother with these three fools, but now he suddenly changed his mind.

Who told them to keep broadening Xu Shaochen’s understanding of what a fool truly is?
