Chapter Index

“This… Sigh, you better go see for yourself!”

Third Uncle wanted to say more but stopped, eventually sighing.

Xu Shaochen’s expression changed. Without getting in the car, he quickly walked into the village.

The roads in the village were narrow and difficult to navigate, so the car had to go slow, still not as fast as his legs.

    “Shaochen!”

Song Xinran exclaimed and then got in the car, saying to Long Yi and Long Er, “Drive, follow him.”

Xu Shaochen’s home was at the end of the village. When he reached the door, his face instantly turned dark.

The reason? His front door was wide open.

What did this mean? It meant someone was inside his home.

What’s more, the lock on the door had been changed, and many areas in the yard had been newly renovated.

Xu Shaochen suppressed his fury and walked into the yard.

“Hey, who are you? Who gave you permission to barge into our home?”

As soon as Xu Shaochen entered the yard, a woman in jeans came out and sharply questioned him.

“Your home? This should be my home!”

Xu Shaochen said with a blank expression. He never expected that upon returning, he’d find his own home taken over by someone else; it was truly absurd.

“Your home? This is our home! Husband, come out! Someone’s trying to take our house!”

The woman said as she shouted towards the main house.

“Who the hell has the guts!”

A rough voice came from inside, and soon after, a shirtless, pot-bellied young man burst out.

    “Xu… Xu Shaochen?”

The young man, who had been furious, was momentarily stunned when he saw Xu Shaochen. His eyes started darting around, and his bravado diminished.

“Husband, you know him? Who is he? What right does he have to claim this house as his?”

The woman frowned, looked Xu Shaochen up and down, then turned to the shirtless young man and asked.

“Xu Tiezhu, I’d like to know when my home became yours.”

Xu Shaochen asked coldly, his eyes flashing with anger.

Xu Tiezhu was the son of the village head Xu Youwei. The father and son had always lorded over the village thanks to their minor official position.

Xu Shaochen hadn’t expected that while his family was away, Xu Tiezhu would dare to take over his home, treating him like a pushover.

“This… Shaochen, you’re back. Let’s go inside and talk over whatever issues there are.”

Xu Youwei leisurely walked out of the main house. Seeing Xu Shaochen, he frowned, but upon noticing the crowd of onlookers outside the door, he forced a smile.

In his heart, however, he was cursing. Why did Xu Shaochen have to return so suddenly!

“Village Head, let’s clear this up right here. I want to know one thing: when did my family’s ancestral home become yours?”

Xu Shaochen let out a cold laugh. The old man clearly wanted to threaten and bribe him in private to seize his family home.

After all, this old guy had done things like usurping land before.

When Xu Shaochen’s father was alive, he could still hold him in check.

But ever since Xu Shaochen’s father passed away, this old guy became more and more arrogant, and the father-son duo had since become the village tyrants.

“Xu Tiezhu, this house isn’t even yours, and you still dare to deceive me! No wonder people have been giving me weird looks lately; you bastard!”

At this moment, the woman in jeans realized what was happening and knew she had been deceived.

She had married over from a neighboring village and didn’t know the details of Xu Family Village. She had really believed this was a house Xu Tiezhu’s family had prepared as their marital home. Now she realized it wasn’t theirs at all.

Seeing his daughter-in-law’s anger, Xu Youwei’s face turned dark like he could drip water.

Originally, he thought Xu Shaochen’s mother would die due to her illness, having no money to treat it. He planned to take over their house early. Given time, even if Xu Shaochen returned, what could he do?

He even used his authority as village head to intimidate the villagers, forbidding them from telling his daughter-in-law about the situation.

But unexpectedly, Xu Shaochen returned just half a month after his son got married, catching him off guard.

“Xu Shaochen! Do you really want things to get this ugly? We’re all from the same village; can’t we just sit down and discuss this calmly?” Xu Youwei gritted his teeth, his threat barely concealed.

Xu Shaochen remained unmoved: “Get out of my house immediately.”

“No way! I’ve been living here for over half a month; who dares kick me out? Xu Tiezhu, I’m telling you, if we lose this house, we’re getting a divorce!”

The woman in jeans screamed defiantly, clearly determined not to return the house to Xu Shaochen.

“Shaochen, your mother is ill and urgently needs money. How about this—I give you five thousand yuan, and you treat this house as sold to me?” Xu Youwei said, looking at Xu Shaochen.

The crowd outside heard this and couldn’t help but curse inwardly. Five thousand? That was awfully stingy. Besides, this was an ancestral home, passed down through generations; even fifty thousand wouldn’t easily get someone to sell it. It was evident Xu Youwei was taking advantage of Xu Shaochen’s youth.

Of course, although they were angry in their hearts, no one dared to speak up. After all, they’d seen firsthand how ruthless and cunning Xu Youwei and his son could be.

“Five thousand? That’s a lot of money, huh!” Xu Shaochen sneered. Then his expression turned cold. “Not even for five hundred thousand would I sell this house to you. I’ll say it one more time: get out of my house now!”

“Xu Shaochen! Don’t act so ungrateful. Think about your mother’s illness! You should be satisfied with five thousand! What if I give you nothing? What can you do then? You wouldn’t want to be so desperate to lose your mother right after losing your father, would you?”

Xu Tiezhu, who had been silent, suddenly erupted. He angrily shouted at Xu Shaochen, feeling quite smug.

Hearing this, everyone around frowned. Who cursed someone else’s parents like that? Especially since, by seniority, Xu Shaochen’s parents were supposed to be called Uncle and Aunt by Xu Tiezhu.

“Village Head, do you think the same way?”

Xu Shaochen glanced at Xu Tiezhu and then looked at Xu Youwei, asking calmly without a hint of emotion.

However, his heart was already burning with rage. He wouldn’t allow anyone to insult him, much less his parents. What Xu Tiezhu did was courting death.

Xu Youwei’s expression kept changing. After a long while, he gritted his teeth and sneered, “Xu Shaochen, Xu Tiezhu is right. You should know your place and not overestimate yourself. I’m the village head. You say this house is yours—where’s your land deed?”

He was adamant about taking Xu Shaochen’s house. Otherwise, his daughter-in-law would divorce his son, and his authority as village head would be undermined.

    Besides, this was also payback.

When Xu Shaochen’s father’s short life had ended, he always meddled. He made it so that Xu Youwei, a village head, had to be extra cautious even when taking advantage of the villagers. Now, Xu Youwei decided to make the son pay for the father’s so-called ‘debt.’
