Chapter 219: Is Bone Tougher or the Bullet?
by xennovelLiu Fan ignored the three men’s shouting and obediently stepped aside after speaking.
He knew that no matter how loud they yelled, it was just futile self-deception.
What’s done is done. Everything leaves a trace, and if Xu Shaochen wanted evidence, it would be the easiest thing to find.
“You three, explain this to me!”
Xu Shaochen’s cold gaze swept over the three men.
The three shivered as a chill ran from the soles of their feet up to their skulls.
“Chairman Xu, you don’t really believe his nonsense, do you?”
“Yes, Chairman Xu, we’ve worked hard for Dafeng Factory for so many years. Do you really suspect us?”
“Chairman Xu, even if you’re the boss, I must say this. If you doubt us, then show us the evidence! Without proof, we won’t accept it!”
Zhou Wei, Li Cheng, and Ye Tao each spoke up, their performance impeccable, as if they really had no guilt whatsoever.
“Bang!”
Xu Shaochen smashed the cup in his hand against Zhou Wei’s face and sneered, “Evidence? You want to talk evidence with me? Gathering evidence is the police’s job. When I, Xu Shaochen, handle things, I don’t need evidence. All I need is suspicion, and that’s enough!”
Liu Fan glanced at the three men, his face showing a hint of mockery. He had experienced Xu Shaochen’s domineering attitude firsthand this morning.
Talking about evidence with this man? You’ve got to be kidding.
The expressions on Zhou Wei and the others’ faces immediately stiffened. Facing someone who didn’t play by the usual rules left them bewildered.
They had already decided not to confess. If Xu Shaochen couldn’t produce evidence, he couldn’t prove they had done it.
But who would have thought Xu Shaochen didn’t even plan on looking for evidence.
“Chairman Xu, without evidence, you’re going to punish us just based on his word? Isn’t that a bit unjust?” Zhou Wei gritted his teeth, wiped off the water from his face, and looked at Xu Shaochen.
Hearing this, Xu Shaochen seemed to find it incredibly amusing and waved Long Yi over.
“Bang!”
Long Yi stepped forward and kicked Zhou Wei to the ground. As Zhou Wei attempted to get up, Long Yi pointed a gun straight at his forehead.
Zhou Wei’s body instantly froze, large beads of cold sweat rolling down his forehead as his face twitch uncontrollably.
Ye Tao and Li Cheng’s faces changed drastically the moment they saw the gun.
“Is this enough? Tell me, what more evidence do you need?” Xu Shaochen walked up to Zhou Wei and asked calmly.
“Gulp…” Zhou Wei gulped down his saliva with difficulty and looked up at Xu Shaochen with gritted teeth. “Chair…Chairman Xu, I swear by heaven and earth, I, Zhou, absolutely did not do something like this.”
He didn’t dare to admit it. He couldn’t admit it because he couldn’t bear the consequences. Now, he could only walk down this path to the bitter end.
He was betting.
Betting that Xu Shaochen wouldn’t dare to pull the trigger. He thought Xu was only trying to scare him.
The smile on Xu Shaochen’s face slowly faded as he spoke, one word at a time, “If you seek death, I will grant your wish.”
“Bang!”
At the moment Xu Shaochen’s words ended, the gun went off, and flesh exploded from Zhou Wei’s arm.
“Aaaaah!”
Zhou Wei screamed in agony, clutching his wounded left arm as he writhed in pain on the ground, blood pouring out from the bullet wound.
“What about you two? Do you also want to test if your bones are tougher than a bullet?” Xu Shaochen picked up Long Yi’s gun and aimed it between Li Cheng and Ye Tao.
“Thud!”
Li Cheng and Ye Tao were so terrified that they fell to the ground, panting heavily and overcome with fear.
“Chairman Xu, please don’t! Chairman Xu, we were blinded by greed! We admit it! We confess everything! We’ll make amends…”
Both of them scrambled to Xu Shaochen’s feet, repeatedly kowtowing and begging for mercy, confessing everything they had done.
“Return every cent you took and beat them half to death, then dump them at the hospital entrance.”
Xu Shaochen said this to Long Yi and Long Er, then glanced at Zhou Wei. “As for his money, let’s leave it be. I’m a reasonable person, after all. Considering he’ll be disabled, he might need some savings to get by.”
With that, Xu Shaochen fired three shots into Zhou Wei’s leg.
“Bang! Bang! Bang!”
“Aaaaah!”
Just as the pain in his arm started to dull, the agony in his leg made Zhou Wei scream out once more.
Li Cheng and Ye Tao both gasped, feeling incredibly lucky. Compared to Zhou Wei, their outcome was much better.
They had each embezzled only a few hundred thousand yuan.
Zhou Wei lost a leg over that amount. Even spending it all on medical bills might not restore his leg.
The most relieved person was Liu Fan. The saying “a wise man submits to circumstances” truly had not deceived him.
Soon, only Liu Fan remained in the office.
“Ch-Chairman Xu.”
Liu Fan looked at Xu Shaochen nervously, unsure why he had been left behind, but what had just happened to Zhou Wei made him uneasy.
“Don’t be nervous. I told you earlier, I’m a reasonable person. You did well in reporting this. A new department will be established in the factory, and you will be its supervisor. Your job will be to monitor and uncover anyone who harms the factory’s interests.”
Xu Shaochen smiled at Liu Fan, believing he would do the job well.
Since Liu Fan had previously been caught embezzling and scared out of his wits, he would now be the harshest on those committing embezzlement, earning Xu Shaochen’s favor.
Because trying to please Xu Shaochen was now Liu Fan’s only way forward.
“Yes, Chairman Xu. Rest assured, I won’t let you down!” Liu Fan responded excitedly. He had thought that after returning the embezzled money, he’d be kicked out of Dafeng Factory.
Unexpectedly, Xu Shaochen had given him another chance, making him overwhelmed with emotion.
Reflecting on his past embezzlement, he felt immense guilt, like he had wronged the country, the Party, and humanity.
Xu Shaochen nodded, “Mm, go ahead. Work hard. There’s no greater virtue than correcting one’s mistakes. I have faith in you.”
“Yes, Chairman Xu.”
Liu Fan answered firmly, then turned and left the office.
“Not bad. That guy has become your loyal dog. From now on, anyone who dares to damage your interests in the factory will be bitten harder than by anyone else.”
Mei Liangxin smiled as he looked at Xu Shaochen, though inside he was cursing. Damn capitalists, never missing a chance to exploit someone.
“You’re cursing me in your mind.” Xu Shaochen said to Mei Liangxin.
Mei Liangxin was stunned, incredulously asking, “How did you know?”
“Damn it! You really were cursing me!” Xu Shaochen was instantly enraged. Holding my rice bowl and still daring to curse me? You’re really something.
Mei Liangxin: “…”
