Chapter Index

    A hotel.

“Idiots! Is this how you handle things when I give you a task?”

Liao Jie sat on the sofa holding a wine glass, coldly scolding the four people in front of him.

These four people had rushed over from Songshan.

He had instructed them to bring Xu Shaochen over so he could teach him a lesson before taking Mei Liangxin back to Songshan.

But to his surprise, these four useless idiots returned empty-handed. Simply outrageous!

“Mr. Liao, the two bodyguards by his side are skilled fighters,” explained the leader of the group.

“Skilled fighters?” Liao Jie sneered as if he’d heard a joke. “A factory owner’s bodyguards are supposed to be skilled fighters? If that’s the case, it must mean you’re all too weak.”

Hearing this, the four men kept their heads down and remained silent. They knew that any explanation would be futile. The best response was to stay quiet.

“Hmph! Since he won’t come to see me, I’ll go see him myself then.”

Liao Jie let out a cold snort and downed the wine in his glass. Xu Shaochen had embarrassed him, and now Liao Jie had to reclaim his pride.

Just a measly factory owner, what is he compared to the mighty Mei Family? And what is he compared to me, Liao Jie?

    ……….

A private room in a hotel.

Xu Shaochen was having a meal with Xie Wei.

“How is it? Does it taste good?”

Xu Shaochen asked Xie Wei as he watched her.

“Mmm.” Xie Wei nodded before asking, “Why aren’t you eating?”

“Your beauty is enough to fill me up. Watching you eat is enough for me.” Xu Shaochen shook his head with a helpless smile.

Xie Wei blushed and rolled her eyes. “You’re so full of nonsense. Anyone who believes you is a fool.”

“Then you must be the biggest fool,” Xu Shaochen said with a laugh.

Xie Wei lowered her head and continued eating. After a moment, she said, “Husband, do you think you could come home with me sometime? My relatives want to meet you.”

Xu Shaochen frowned. To be honest, he really didn’t want to go. Meeting Xie Wei’s parents was one thing, but her other relatives? No thanks.

But looking at Xie Wei’s pitiful expression, Xu Shaochen nodded. “Alright, but I’ll have to see if I have time.”

There was nothing he could do. Xie Wei always went along with whatever he wanted, never refusing any of his requests. Bringing him tea, serving him diligently, even massaging his shoulders and legs—whether in bed or out of bed, she took care of him perfectly.

Moreover, Xie Wei rarely ever asked him for anything. Now that she had this small request, he really couldn’t say no.

“Mmm, thank you, husband.” Xie Wei smiled, her eyes curling up like crescent moons.

    “Ka-chak—”

“Boss, someone is here to see you. They’ve brought along the four people who blocked your way earlier.”

Suddenly, Long Yi walked in and respectfully reported to Xu Shaochen.

Without even raising his eyelids, Xu Shaochen continued peeling shrimp and calmly said, “Tell him to get lost. I’m having dinner with my girlfriend. I don’t have time for this.”

Even though he didn’t know who it was, the fact that these four people dared to block his way showed that they weren’t up to any good. Since that was the case, there was no need for Xu Shaochen to give them the time of day.

If you want to see me, fine. But it depends on whether I have the time.

“Yes, Boss,” Long Yi replied and immediately turned to leave.

“Hey, wait a minute.” Xie Wei stopped him and looked at Xu Shaochen. “It’s better to meet them. They might have something important to discuss.”

She wasn’t aware of the incident where those four had blocked Xu Shaochen’s way; she just didn’t want him to miss out on something important because of her.

Xu Shaochen glanced at Xie Wei and chuckled. “Alright, let them in.”

“Wow, what an attitude. It’s really hard to get a meeting with you. People might think you’re just a little factory owner, but those who don’t know might assume you’re the mayor of Jiangzhou.”

Moments later, Liao Jie walked in with a sneer on his face, sarcastically addressing Xu Shaochen.

Behind him were four bodyguards. Long Yi and Long Er also entered the private room, standing on either side of the door.

Hearing this, Xie Wei immediately guessed that this person must have a grudge against Xu Shaochen. She felt a pang of guilt—if it weren’t for her, Xu Shaochen wouldn’t have let this person in.

“So it’s you. I wasn’t expecting a dog like you. What’s wrong? Armed with four scrappy dogs sent by your master, now you dare bark in front of me?”

Xu Shaochen replied calmly, not caring at all. He didn’t expect these four people to belong to the Mei Family. So that’s good; it saves him the trouble of investigating.

A flash of anger crossed Liao Jie’s face as he coldly snorted. “Hmph, Xu Shaochen, let me be blunt. I’m here today to cause trouble. So listen up: Fire Mei Liangxin immediately and then kneel and apologize, or else, your pathetic factory will have to shut down for good. You might also want to book yourself a hospital bed in advance.”

Now that he had four bodyguards with him, Liao Jie was full of confidence—and he didn’t put Xu Shaochen in his eyes at all.

“Let me also say two things. First, kneel and apologize to me. Second, after you apologize, get the hell out!” Xu Shaochen said coldly, staring at Liao Jie. If you don’t know how to act, don’t blame me for being impolite.

Liao Jie’s face darkened. He reached out and dragged a chair beside Xu Shaochen, intending to sit down.

    “Bang!”

Before Liao Jie could sit down, Xu Shaochen kicked the chair away, causing Liao Jie to fall straight to the floor.

“Did I tell you to sit?” Xu Shaochen asked coldly.

Liao Jie awkwardly got up from the floor, his eyes filled with fury. “Good, good, Xu! If you don’t know what’s good for you, then don’t blame me for being ruthless! Take him down!”

As soon as Liao Jie finished speaking, his four bodyguards fixed their eyes on Xu Shaochen, ready to attack at any moment.

However, Xu Shaochen just chuckled and continued eating his food as if nothing had happened. With Long Yi and Long Er around, how could these four idiots even think of hurting him?

Seeing how Xu Shaochen ignored them, and remembering what happened earlier in the day, the four bodyguards were furious. They immediately started moving toward Xu Shaochen.

    “Bang!”

    “Clang!”

Just as they took two steps forward, a gunshot suddenly echoed in the private room, and the wine glass on the table shattered into pieces.

The five of them quickly turned their heads.

They saw that Long Yi and Long Er were both holding guns, pointing them without the slightest expression on their faces.

“The next person who takes a step will be shot dead.”

Without lifting his head, Xu Shaochen said, as he placed a peeled shrimp onto Xie Wei’s plate. “Try this. It’s really good.”

“Mmm.” Although Xie Wei was a bit nervous, she forced herself to smile sweetly and tried not to look at the scene around her.

Liao Jie and his four men stood rooted to the spot, not daring to move. Their faces were gloomy. After all, who could have imagined that a mere hotpot factory owner’s bodyguards would carry guns with them?

    Chapter Summary

Liao Jie angrily confronts Xu Shaochen after his failed attempt to capture him. Xu Shaochen calmly dismisses Liao Jie’s threats while having dinner with Xie Wei. When Liao Jie tries to escalate the conflict, Xu Shaochen not only humiliates him but also intimidates his bodyguards by having his own armed guards make a bold statement, ensuring Liao Jie and his men back down.
